I honestly don’t know. It put them on ignore so I didn’t see any of their messages thereafter and never investigated to see if anything came of it. I don’t think that really mattered since at the time the gold sellers were being very aggressive and deleting and making new toons all the time.

retail is almost like solo player. i wouldnt even notice if i was squelched on there lol

classic though. oh boy.

galdor, i’m honestly surprised you are supporting auto squelch for classic. honestly.

You are trying to conflate different solutions to different problems. The token really took out gold sellers the chat system kinda did but it more just caused them to take extra alts.

I support it in the absence of a viable alternative that will remove the Gold Spammers from chat as quickly and efficiently as the auto-squelch does.

understandable. surely there must be a way to make it so that’s all it applies to. i cant imagine what a mess it would make of pvp servers, though i’ve never played on one, the fact it could be used against ganking would ruin pvp servers, where ganking is like synonmous with the acronym, pvp.

or world boss fights or the gates of anh’qiraj event… just think what a complete mess that would be. i’d be willing to pay a higher sub fee just so they could afford to hire a couple gms for this.

If they could just hire GM’s on alternating shifts to track all the public chat channels, banning Gold Sellers immediately, that would be amazing. We wouldn’t even have to waste the little effort required to right-click report them.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s something Blizzard would even consider doing.

if we paid a higher sub fee that would remove the financial reasons, so what other reason could there be?

I’m sure that changing their current CS structure and hiring more people isn’t as simple as it sounds. Here’s an old post I saw today that is at least somewhat relevant to this conversation:

"Second, regardless of how much money you believe a person or company to have, simply throwing more money or more people (that you apparently can create out of thin air) does not necessarily help to address a situation. "

well most of us love ythisens, even blizzard does. i’d be willing to pay a higher sub fee so they could rehire him and maybe get an apprentice to assist for the shifts where ythisens is sleeping, etc.

they have a contractor they hire new employees from. maybe get one of those. that kind of job could even be done from home.

It sounds to me like those goldsellers no longer affected you after you reported, even though they may not have been subject to any player imposed punishment.

The only way I see Blizzard hiring more people to moderate Classic’s chat is if basically doesn’t attract that many players and there’s only like 2-3 servers. They could even keep the ability to report players in place and probably just have one dude monitor the chats/reports.

Well, I guess another way would be to have “MVP” players in-game that can silence players. But, that could come with risks.

I’ve never understood why this was ever implemented when we have /ignore.

The ignore system worked perfect. Oh you dont like what someone had to say. Well you can ignore them in perpetuity and never ever hear from them again.

Instead we got. Oh you cant handle the internet so lets silence someone globally because you cant handle words.

Or maybe you’re the special snowflake if you’re so worried that people might not like what you have to say and you end up squelched

That’s some serious mental gymnastics there.

There is a big difference in you the player choosing what you want and don’t want to see. And you the player deciding for other players what they can and can not see.

How can you be this thick and not understand this?

No, it is really not.

Much like your desire for as many people to see what vomitous garbage you’d like to present them with in public channels. When in public, one should expect that others in public will have a say in what is acceptable.

edit: I sense we are in for yet another round of “but my freedom of speech!”

Here comes another round of someone not understanding that just like in any social situation in the world, there are consequences for publically being a bigot, and that most people actually think that’s okay.
