Those against the squelch say that it would prevent people from getting groups to do content.
Well, sever black lists effectively do the same thing. Prevent people from getting groups to do content.
Maintained in-game or not, they effectively have the same outcome, if those against the squelch are to be believed.
Those against the squelch say that people can “collude” to get people an unwarranted squelch. Well, people can “collude” to get people put on a blacklist falsely.
IDENTICAL.
So, please, with facts, explain how one can be abused and the other can not.
if i am on a black list i can still form my own groups with people who actually trust me. i can still talk to people and do whatever i want. will it be harder? sure.
but if someone gets enough people to report me for whatever reason, i can’t talk to people to join groups, i can’t talk to people to talk to people, i can’t do anything.
Except that we have seen evidence posted that private channels and most whispers are unaffected by the squelch, so your information is inaccurate.
Public channels and random matchmade channels (which is only BGs in Classic) are the only channels that are muted. Also, you can’t initiate a whisper to anyone not on your friends list, but you can reply to them.
So, no. It doesn’t prevent you from doing “anything”.
Blacklists and the squelch are the exact same thing. With the same result.
So, if someone is for blacklists but against the squelch, they are a hypocrite. Plain and simple.
The men’s rights movement is anti-feminism. It was created as a response to women wanting equality. The event that was cancelled in your post, apparently was being objected to, not because it was a Men’s Day event, but because of the specific way the University was holding the event. The objectors said the university was holding it in such a way as to further entrench, and uphold, male superiority. If that was the case (couldn’t find the open letter) then I support the cancellation, as International Men’s Day is about teaching eqaulity, not entrenching patriarchy.
(Edited for a missed capital letter)
it was international mens day and they were talking about issues that men deal with every day.
issues like the vast disparity in work place deaths men face, the fact that men get longer sentences in criminal cases then women, etc.
“A day that celebrates men’s issues – especially those outlined in the university’s statement – does not combat inequality, but merely amplifies existing, structurally imposed, inequalities.”
is complete bullcrap. feminism is supposed to be about equality. and they are going to sit there and tell us that a single day a year to discuss stuff such as
“The university had signed up to the event, which aims to highlight issues affecting men and boys, including the high male suicide rate, men’s shorter life expectancy and “the struggles that boys can face in getting an education”.”
is going to be anti feminism?
and tell me this.
if i’m trying to form a raid, how am i going to get people to join if i can’t broadcast in public channels, thus getting people to respond to me?
if you think that blizzard is going to step in in time to stop the raid your sorely mistaken, those things normally take at least a full day to get answered.
So we’re back to the whole blizzard can’t enforce things which in turn means that you just want to go back to chat being a place that can be freely trolled.
really. that whole much higher suicide rate isn’t of concern?
the fact that a woman is infinitely more likely to get child custody isn’t of concern?
the fact that a man who is a victim of assault by a woman is laughed off isn’t of concern?
no. i don’t. i just think the auto squelch should go away. right click report can still ignore, but to prevent abuse blizzard reviews the situation and then takes appropriate action.
Invite a friend and have them broadcast for you. It’s really simple.
If you’ve been unfairly put on the server blacklist and nobody trusts you, how are you going to form a raid, even if the people that put you on the blacklist lied, and you have no evidence to refute the claim?
