Extreme Tank shortage

i have its about the same tbh. the main difference between the two is ff tends to take the game less serious because overall it is less serious. the endgame doesnt even come close to competing with wows and how competitive it can get. just my personal experience after playing both.

Tank you too slow
Tank you too fast
Tank why you move left instead right
PULL SMALL PACKS BRO , PULL BIG PACKS BRO
Tank : ARGGH / RAGEQUIT :rage:

My experience has been that most dungeons for both games, barely anyone says anything outside of just a ā€œhiā€ at the start of the dungeon, but when people do actually interact, itā€™s when something has gone wrong and we wiped to it or something.

And in FFXIV, people just simply explain what we need to do to overcome it, no problem, move on and do it. If itā€™s still a problem, that is when the criticism comes out.

In WoW, people will say what we need to do to overcome it, and thereā€™s a pretty decent chance that it might turn into an argument between at least 2 people, with others chiming in or just leaving. There is no grace period window where everyone just attempts to do the thing and we see how it goes from there, everyone is just automatically already aggressive on edge for seemingly no reason. There is no 3 strike rule in WoW, 1 mistake gets made, which is inevitable, even for the top tier players, and people blow up.

this is not my exp in ff. its the same as wow. mistakes are made and the tilt comes out.

once again kinda my exp in both game in fact in wow i get it less but thats because i make less mistakes in wow.

Iā€™ve only experienced this maybe twice in FFXIV at the most. I was always the player screwing up though, because I was new to the game, and I would just ask questions in chat and people would be friendly and answer them for me and we would continue on. Never experienced anyone being tilted or aggressive towards me personally in that game.

It happens all the time in WoW, and not usually to me personally, but itā€™s like bad enough that your whole group falls apart over it. So even if no one was personally attacking me, it still sucks to deal with.

And from an outside perspective it honestly just looks silly most of the time. Itā€™s like watching 2 cavemen get aggressive towards each other and pound their chests at each other for no reason at all in my experience lol. I just wanna chill and move on and play the game, but 2 people wanna fight each other over 1 mistake and get completely sidetracked about it.

this is just how it is in completive gaming like i said i exp this literally any online game. they would rather throw and try to be right then just letting their pride go and completing the match or content. this is just a problem in gaming in general and isnt local to one game or another.

Bake the dungeon pool this season some are way overturned, some have annoying mechanics that you have to do that have nothing to do with your skills (looking at you dawnbreaker), only a few dungeons are meh or ok.

I have no intention to tank even though I was going to.

The only other game Iā€™ve experienced this in is League of Legends, but every other online game Iā€™ve played if one person makes a mistake, which mistakes are inevitable, people just ignore it and move on. In the overwhelming majority of online games I play mistakes only become a problem if they are recurring.

Only WoW and LoL are where I meet people who hyperfocus on 1 mistake people make and it turns into a full blown argument and completely ruins the game/destroys the group over it. Itā€™s honestly insane that the argument is usually about how the mistake is ruining the run for us, but they are ironically ruining the run by wasting all this time forcing us to watch them argue amongst each other over nothing.

Iā€™m done carrying lazy dps. Did a +4 Necrotic Wake last night. I was tanking and told the party twice : ā€œPlease put the hook towards the boss on the platform to hook him downā€. Well, after 3 miss hooks and 3 DPS doing 360s with the red arrow around the abomination I left and went back to play the superior game : Valorant.

lol, dota, wow,ff,overwatch, cs, valorant, siege and to a lesser extent even games like helldivers and space marines. any game that you can ā€œloseā€ in will have toxicity in it because people place so much weight on mistakes even if said mistakes wont cause the loss of the game. heck some of those examples people will throw even before the match if you choose the wrong character or operator. so yes when i say its an industry wide problem i mean it. people have egos and feel the need to express them.

Of course there arenā€™t its not 1:1 , its 1: 3

For example for every 300 dps you need 100 tanks to do a dungeon . So the demand of dps should actually be higher than the tanks but what we see practically in game for dungeons is the opposite .

Despite needing threes times less tanks than dps there isnā€™t enough and common answer to that has always been responsibility , nobody wants it as convenience is always king, you will always try to get the best of the situation with the least amount of effort

Yeah and in my experience in Overwatch I can report those people for that and then get a message later about how they were dealt with for being toxic. Itā€™s the same in FFXIV, you can report people for a lot more in that game so people have to be on better behavior there than they do in WoW. When a bunch of WoW players tried out FFXIV that was one of the things that happened, a lot of people got banned because they tried to behave the same way they do in WoW and people reported them for it lol.

cool story the thing you didnt add in here is no matter how many people they ban for it they still exist in the same amount of games. big problem with overwatch is its ftp.btw overwatch and wow ban people for the same stuff and have alot of the same policies. its almost like they are owned by the same parent company. wow is just much more massive than overwatch or ff.

Give Shaman a tank spec and Iā€™ll tank.

You shouldnā€™t be anxious at all. Tanks are such in great demand in low Mythic+ keys. You do your homework and if people are being jerk at you or you think the run is going to brick because the other participants didnā€™t do their homework like you did, like if they donā€™t do any mechanics etc. You just hearthstone out, and youā€™ll be in another key 30 sec later. Thereā€™s no room for anxiety in a game like this. The second you find it too toxic for you, you just peace it. Youā€™ll never wait more than 15sec in low M+ keys as a tank so donā€™t get annoyed by the bull****

And this is why there is a tank shortage. You cracked the code. The tanks do all the work and then get the most abuse from the rest of the party.

Are you toxic towards tanks?

The problem is tanks take a massive amount more damage than in the past, and Blizzard decided that all those people that ran M0 through M9 didnā€™t matter, so they made M10 into M0. This means all the levels that new tanks would learn to tank mythics are now gone.
Basically its like jumping from Heroic to M10 in the past, its such a jarring thing most tanks would never come back.
This is what happens when you cater to less than 10% of the player base and say screw it to the other 90%.

And allow Warlocks to tank again as well.
