Extreme Tank shortage

Just wanted to come in here and really just put my two cents in and say pretty much what all the other tanks are saying.

I just tank with my guild i’ve been a part of for 20 years. its only 5 of us now but the times i have “pugged” or tried going outside my friend circle has just been a really mixed experience and mainly on the negative end.

People expect you to be a ACE and be a professional player DAY 1 of the patch and watched every youtube video regarding the patch. They Expect you to know every route in mythic+…ALL OF THEM!. You have to GO FAST! but not TO FAST! or your just doing it wrong. I hate even doing LFR because if the other tank messes up somehow its both tanks fault all of a sudden like your linked together like the borg or something. Plus as a tank you are under a microscope. Even the slightest mistake your labeled “A TERRIBLE PLAYER AND SHOULD UNINSTALL”.

The Community attitude just sucks and everyone has a comment . and i have pretty thick skin but after so many years of the community abuse its just like. Why even put yourself through it? when you can just go do stuff on your own or with some friends. Sure you won’t get the Best Stuff ever but does it even matter when it only lasts for one season and you just do it all over again the next one.

I’m a “DOING IT” learner and watching youtube videos and reading guides only goes so far with me. Thing is you can’t even go in and learn now a days because people expect a “WORLD FIRST MYTHIC+” playstyle every time you do a instance.

I’m just glad i have a decent friend circle and a decent guild to do everything. i feel bad for all the people that have to just pug and deal with it.

I think that weak moderation in WoW plays a part. In FFXIV particularly obnoxious players get pruned after mouthing off in Limsa before they have a chance to abuse any tanks.

This is why I stopped tanking after heroics. I could no longer pull or handle two groups at a time, I needed all my cooldowns on every pack just to survive. I’m a 603 ilvl bear tank, have tanked since shadowlands and loved it, but it’s freaking boring pulling one pack at a time and feeling like I’m going to die every two seconds unless I use incarn and spam frenzied regen. I miss shadowlands before thrash had a CD I could just go ham and gain an absorb shield, do a bunch of damage, and hardly take any damage while pulling 2-3 packs. Healers were stronger as well, more capable of keeping me alive and the dps. Add on top of that the memorization of routes and using external addons to help us memorize said routes, I just said F it and rolled a dps. I hate warrior tanking anymore, it’s boring, more than half your buttons pushed are ignore pain and shield block. Then you go into open world and spend five minutes killing a single mob unless you use cooldowns. I want to do damage as a tank, and be able to handle multiple groups without a god-mode geared to the teeth healer.

I’ve rarely ever received flak for my tanking, albeit I’ve been playing since Vanilla and am one who does their homework on routes and knows all the mechanics in dungeons and uses the full extent of my spells and abilities and knows all my talents and what they do and when to swap them out for certain dungeons.

I’m fine with wiping, I’ve stuck through with groups that had 45+ wipes in a key, and helped my party members learn the mechanics that were wiping us.

My problem is: tanking is not fun this expansion. It’s always stressful to some degree, fighting for aggro, trying to make sure your party is on the same page, keeping to a route, but tanking this expansion is just stress without the rewards of fun gameplay.

Me too. Of course the first season wasn’t the best but the rest was good. I played shadowlands so much and part of me feels like I didn’t play it enough while mythic+ was still good

I got KSM three seasons in shadowlands before I eventually got bored. Tanking was great, we did so much damage and could take a beating.

Narrator: the tanks did indeed get cookies. The cookies had poopy chips in them, which made the tanks weaker and less able to sustain.

I even enjoyed explosive orbs in SL. Because I actually had globals to spare to hit the orbs. DF really messed things up, and I can’t even imagine trying to hit orbs in TWW.

This is an extremely clown take lmao. As a tank im working together with a group to complete the dungeon, the goal is finishing it. Why are you grouping with people that you gotta “carry” if youre just gonna cry about it :skull::skull::skull:

Yeah you must be new or not doing high end content lol

Because your responsibility is to the success of the party first and some vague obsession with ‘HEALERS ONLY PUSH HEAL BUTTONS, OK!?’ second.

If you have the mana for it, and everyone is topped off, a healer should be using their damage abilities. Likewise DPS and tanks should be doing what they can to minimize the burden on the healer.

They really did. Even before removing all the affixes they nerfed them into the ground and removed seasonal affixes because DPS couldn’t handle thundering.

No I’ve just been in one too many groups where the tanks are dumb and the healer is being a pretend DPS and it falls over.

I’ve topped over 3K IO as tank and healer, topped high 90 parses as a healer in raid and topped high 90 parses as a DPS in dungeons, my stats are all on display for you to see.

I’ve even ran high keys timed where healers are doing some 10-20% of what the DPS are doing, negligible DPS, yet we still time dungeons, why? Why is it that some of you are hell bent on healers having to DPS? Why is it when players can time dungeons, high keys, beat raid bosses, yet when we do it with healers who have no DPS you just flat out resort to calling us bad?

Case in point: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/3DvbkwPY8HKaQ7Lc#fight=last

M25, S3 DF, healer was doing 44K DPS, timed. And it was an MW healer who does a good portion of their healing as DPS.

Healers DON’T need to do DPS to time dungeons, if you cannot time a high key without the healer doing damage you are doing something wrong.

Tanks need to be able to do 80% of a dps damage

I’m a 0.1% title holder and the other night timed a +10 GB. On one pull I pulled conservatively and got a “???” From a BR hunter in typical BR fashion. I can’t even imagine what less experienced tanks have to deal with lol.

Honestly it hasn’t been to bad.

I even ask for advise at the end of the run and often get you did great with some little tips like the double warlock pack into the lavabender might be a bit to much for other healers, or that the warlocks cast through walls, or even do the farthest pack first on the second boss as the boss doesn’t pat until the first pack is killed than we have more time on the second and can reset if needed.

I have had serious failures such as falling flat on my face through defensives on pull when it comes to the last four pulls in GB and no one said anything. Honestly that seems the norm.

Of all my runs I’ve had some people drop but only one person rage at me, and without me saying a word the party stepped in to defend me even when he had a point about the pull in question. I get it he died something like 8 times in 7 packs and not all of them were his fault. While he dropped he did whisper afterwards and he had calmed down and explained why.

And don’t get me wrong he had a point that he was cleaved by a murader in NW because I turned the mob. Unfortunately I don’t have a timer for it and I had to move to pick up mobs because someone opened with burst during the gathering of three packs and I had lost threat. Its either no ones fault or everyones in that it was a failure point on multiple peoples part. Me for spinning the mob, him for not adjusting, and the person who burst for not waiting a global or two.

Sometimes things go wrong, and it seems like the vast majority of pugs get that.

Oh I even had a run where I was still in the wrong build and caused a wipe on the first boss of GB because of it. I stepped out to change specs and than came back in and we finished it. We didn’t time it unfortunately but instead of any negativity multiple people thanked me for sticking with it. Honestly I expected people to rage at that one and I wouldn’t have blamed them.

Ah that advice about pulling the second group at 2nd boss first is genius. Didn’t think of that. That’s great advice!

Oh man I’ve learned so much from asking people for what they think I can do to improve. I don’t know if it takes people by surprise or what but everyone has been really supportive instead of picking apart every mistake which is what I thought might happen when I first started doing it. Instead each person seems to try to focus on one thing but they want to make sure that over all I did a good job.

Objectively wrong, you’ve never done high keys

not high keys, i got that on every tank in s3 df and i played like 5h a week

Make tanking twice ad hard didnt make more tanks?!?!? Im stunned.

An unacceptably high number of my ara-kara groups fail on the first pull… or rather tank does the pull and taps a mob that starts channeling resonant barrage and no one is able or decides to interrupt it.
