Extreme Tank shortage

In FFXIV, there isn’t nearly as many toxic players and/or DPS that pull for the tank. Pulls are generally limited by physical blockades that stop you from pulling the entire dungeon, so… DPS aren’t out of control causing excess stress to the tank and healers.

Additionally, everyone can be a tank / healer / dps on one character in FFXIV.

This will continue. Players do not want to be in a situation that is toxic and abusive.

The timer of M+ makes it competitive, which makes players sweaty and serious. The sweaty serious player is short lived and once you’ve done it, it then gets old quick and you kinda wonder why you lost yourself and got so serious about a game anyway.

Follower dungeons will continue to expand, delves will continue to expand and raid story modes will continue to expand.

The m+ community will continue to see less and less players. The community in PUG’s which is the vast majority of players in M+ are tired of the abuse, the toxicity and the harassment between strangers. Follow the forums for awhile and read why I write this.

I’ve been following the forums closely since SL and it’s getting louder and louder about how bad M+ is.

Yep. I love tanking, but dont have time to commit to finding a good group. So since Blizz M pug is broken, I am just unsubbing lol.
GL all.

Would be nice if more players thought the way you do. The game might actually see more tank/healer curious players take up those mantles.

Cheers.

The fact that M+ is deeply unsatisfying this season. With your face constantly getting kicked in and barely scraping a dub by the skin of your teeth; IF you get a dub. This paired with incompetent groups and your reward from 3-8 is the same measly crests and vault value?

Its incredibly stressful second only to healing and I’d imagine a lot of people have just decided the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

I’ve got a tank of every class. I also learned long ago to never tank for randoms.

As a tank / DPS / Healer, this is bull.

You guys all remember they squished the difficulty so there were less +28’s, right? It’s ok for these dungeons like, say, 5-9’ish to be difficult.

I have three toons that I can tank on and know how to tank with. I just chose not to because folks get all up in arms when I tank slower than they want me to. I’ve seen too many tanks kicked for being too slow for other liking and it just pushed me away from tanking. I see heals going down as well because those that do want to rush and pull everything all the way to the boss get mad with the healer can’t keep up.

I agree with all that. WoW has turned out this way because that’s the way they wanted it for some reason. Maybe not on purpose. Perhaps they listen to the wrong feedback. I know playing a dps and knowing if I pulled a mob and there was nothing a tank/healer could do to stop a death would really make me rethink that decision. But that goes back to they didn’t want tanks to keep aggro easily.

i dont tank because when i do, the healer sucks. so i go back to healing… but the tank sucks. idk man. times are tough.

The focus is on what’s interesting now and not what the long term impact to the game or player behavior will be.

It’s like they don’t get the player base will attempt to min/mix against whatever constraint there is. So if the issue is a timer - that forces a specific play style.

If the issue was death counters (like Delves) that forces a different play style.

As a 41-year-old man who has played wow for the better part of twenty years, I can honestly say it is an absolute disappointment grouping with today’s player base. It seems that everyone is wearing a safety helmet, banging their head against the wall, screaming at the top of their lungs. Let’s go!. while simultaneously butt-chugging a monster energy drink.

Let the decider decide. Slow and steady when is the race.

Yes, did mage tower on all of them to. Its rather simplistic.

If you want to split hairs I haven’t tanked mythic plus since SL though.

I hope that this is correct and I would definitely be a strong proponent for Heroic or M+ Follower dungeons.

Getting screamed at or trying to save a party because some Warrior or Rogue or Hunter is being overzealous and pulling ahead of me and causing everything to wipe is immensely frustrating. I know the dungeons. I know the fights. I know what to do. But I can’t account for poor player behavior. :frowning:

Or, conversely, trying to set food down and taking time to drink a potion and getting left behind because someone’s already pulling while I’m trying to give us the best chance of success. Or just getting silence in response to any question I ask in any channel of the group I’m with.

It’s not worth it for me to continue to deal with that. If I’m going to pay my $20 a month, I want to play the game in a way that’s enjoyable for me.

Timed content probably doesn’t bring out the best in people. Some people love it though. Not for me.

Just have to accept that as a tank in pugs you are the person people will scream at when things go wrong even if it isn’t your fault. That usually isn’t too upsetting except now Blizz has given these same people the power to kick you from the group if you don’t listen and obey their every command

People will be people.

I’ve tanked M+ back to back and got comment like “great tank, nice pull timing, pay attention to healer mana” etc.

then the next dungeon i tank we time it with no wipes, maybe 1 or 2 deaths. and a dps type in chat at the end…gg but tank was “dog trash”, that i dont pull big enough, i dont pull according to party CDs etc.

i couldnt care less about those comments. i simply will try to improve and keep tanking.

The reason there is a tank shortage is because the community treats tanks like crap. If they dont go the exact Method Tools route and pull as much as possible they are told they suck. There needs to be a change of attitude on the part of the community as a whole if you expect tanks to queue up again. Personally I dont bother anymore. Its not worth the complaining. You get loot at the end no matter if you time the key or not. Want to push keys and find optimal routes? Join a guild or get some friends that can tollerate learnining.

In addition M+ is not worth it with Delve loot being superior for the effort put in. They are easy and with keys you get higher level gear than you do in M+ or Heroic raids without the hassle of being yelled at. Expect less and less in M+ with the way Delves are setup.

Yeah :frowning: that’s why I pretty much avoid them by default now. I may not get the best loot from Follower stuff and I’m behind the curve by doing Delves, but nobody’s screaming at me or treating me with a cold shoulder.
