Wait what? Healer DPS got nerfed into the ground.
In Nathria I could compete with bad DPS, now I can get an 80+ parse and still do less damage than a 2% Hunter who was dead half the fight.

Tanking for PUGS has felt much more difficult this season.
Supply and demand will handle this for the most part. People will not enjoy waiting more than they do not enjoy tanking and will start tanking.
Which isnât an ideal solution because having players fill a role they donât enjoy isnât good for the game.
My suggestion would be to increase group size. Even going from 5 man to 6 mans is a 33% increase in dps per group.
That is when you show your hand. You leave group and re-que with a new one instantly. I made ONE small mistake in a stone vault +7 and we wiped, and the healer continuously harped and harped until we got to the 3rd boss and I just said ok, find a new tank and left. I was in another group in less than 30 seconds and he just got in one as I was finishing my new dungeon. You donât have to wait, they do, use it. I donât mind constructive criticism, however if they are insulting about it or just being bully-ish over it I just leave.
I donât mean they do dps, I mean theyâre trying to make them play like dps. I assume in an effort to entice dps players to try the roles. Looking at the meters and trying to pump their throughput at all costs. Removed all non-throughput stats, etc. Blizzard couldnât figure out how (or didnât want to bother) to challenge healers and tanks in their own ways, so everything is super fast paced and reaction time based.
They arenât taking into account why tanks and healers play the game.
I appreciate the tank cookie <3
(Also, tanks, if youâre a decent player and are prepared with the âhomeworkâ you wonât get flamed. Ask me how I know (Iâll spoil it, I do a lilâ tankin).)
(PS - accountability when you mess up also helps)
Blizzard could add any incentive they want but until the toxic players that abuse tanks and healers are squashed you will see very few tanks and healers pug. Why would a tank or healer choose to go into an uncoordinated group that they cannot easily communicate with when they can run with friends or guild member and have a 1000x better experience? Iâve done keys where we wiped 5-6 times on a boss in a guild group and we all just brushed it off laughed and tried again and then went in a pug where a rando starts complaining about a trash pull or where a boss was tanked and rage quits on a single wipe while spewing profanity at other people. Pugs will not do mechanics then blame the healer or tank when they die. Pugs ignore the affixes and then say its a tank or healer mechanic. They wonât interrupt, wonât cc, never touch health pots, complain the tank is too fast, too slow, or butt pull mobs. Why would anyone willingly subject themselves to that even if Blizz offered them something extra? I want to enjoy playing the game as much as the dps waiting in LFG do, but giving me a bag of goodies isnât enough to get me to run with pugs if im going to be miserable the entire time.
People play based on what their guild needs for raid. With two dedicated tanks per guild, the shortage is baked in. There are 7 dps and 2 healers per tank, but thereâs only room for 3 dps and 1 healer per tank in M+.
The only tanks that are present are either extremely low ilevel, or just horrible at the game(not even just tanking)
You will wait 10 minutes for a tank, and then the tank is like 555
Why would tanks play with a toxic pug community when there are so many other and more useful options for gearing like running them with a guild, delves, and raiding. Tanking pugs is the absolute worst because of how pugs act, Iâm not going to sign up to be treated like crap by players who are typically creating all the problems in the run anyways. Iâm all for letting the ship sink because you as a whole do not deserve tanks.
As a healer, I will refuse to heal a DPS that keeps standing in stuff, or a dps that pulls ahead of the tank. If it bricks the key, then it bricks the key. Iâll get into another one pretty quick. Tanks should ABSOLUTELY do the same thing. Throw on some music, mute chat, and let the good times roll
Yes because Iâm sure having to memorize a route, affixes, kicks, which pulls to LoS, rotating defensive cooldowns and keeping mitigation up is completely braindead.
Silly me, shouldâve just rolled range and stood still on a DoT.
Iâm a tank (see?).
But the community, as a whole, is pretty toxic. And by pretty, I mean horribly. I either get folks who refuse to speak to me, or if they do, Iâm being told to pull faster, harder, more, etc.
Iâm pulling monsters at a pace that I feel comfortable with. Whether it be in Heroics or in Mythics because I know what I can handle and I donât want to get people killed. I really really dislike if people die under my protection as tank. It makes me feel like I failed at my job.
So, I donât journey into the larger community unless I absolutely have to. Iâm content to do Follower dungeons or Delves or go with my Guild who isnât going to scream at me - or leave me in abject silence.
why would you want to tank for a group of sweaty, mouthy degenerates instead of running+8 delves with your friends for champion and hero gear? no thanks lad, enjoy your rating.
thats cool and all but wasting a key is wasting someoneâs time which is as you can imagine, toxic.
Youâd think so - but I had a warrior taunt (before) each Phase Lunge on Sikran. This led to him stacking the debuff and dying, 3x. From 96% to dead. Could not understand why he was dying.
This is it.
I tanked for a very long time, and ever since the implementation of the M+ system, I have effectively put away my sword and board. I had to be convinced by guildmates to gear my tank spec back in BfA in order to tank raids for them.
I have almost no incentive to pug keys.
I will tank/heal a low keys to gear up a new character faster when nobody is on otherwise I just build a group in guild. I at least know if someone is questionable going into to the key and can hop on comms and say hey watch for this or my route is going to suck because Im just pulling unless one of you know the route.
Anything 7+ I just run in guild because we everyone still needs the heroic gear.
Most of my keys have been run as tank or heals when I primarly raid as dps.
This is just so we can get groups going.
What makes finding keys hard is people only wanting to play one of the roles they can do.
I would love to tank but first to time I tried I was kicked cause I wasnât pulling fast enough. There is no patient to allow new tanks to get their feet under them.
This is just my perspective, but I donât think tanking is as fun as it once was. Using FFXIV for example, just using your abilities you tank playing a tank. And they are as flashy as any dps. This isnât the case in WoW.
You have to making active choices to actually tank. And a lot of people donât like making choices that really donât look all that impressive. Thatâs why most of the people in this thread know how to tank even though they donât play tanks. It looks like youâre barely doing anything when theyâre flashy at everything they do.
Now as you get into harder content, you still have to work at it in FFXIV. It isnât something that just happens. If using shield slam actually looked like the target just got hit in the face by a brick wall would help for example. Most of the skills a tank uses arenât identifiable for someone just watching a tank.
When I used to tank I was always second guessing if a skill had actually happened. Things look better now than they used to but no one wants to constantly wonder if their skills are actually processing.
I would bet if tanks looked amazing more people would play them. Of course, they are the least number you need for any content doesnât help. Maybe making them viable in tank and dps roles depending solely on their stance? Iâd love to play a dps using sword and board but currently thatâs not possible. It will open up people tanking if you just need a stance change in my opinion. Blizzard moved away from tanks easily keeping threat. I suspect the game would break if that happened. At the very least itâs not built that way.
