True but still
With this flat a** argument, you could say there was no reason to change the range in the first place.
Then they had 0 reason to introduce it in the first place. In fact, since they intentionally reduced it upfront means they literally had a reason for it, yet there doesn’t seem to be a compelling reason for it.
Did you even read the posts prior? We’re inherently at a disadvantage when we have to do ranged mechanics. Everyone else 40 yards to deal with mechs + hit the boss still - we don’t. It’s been an issue since day 1 and will until they fix it.
That’s the whole point of the forums, is to elicit change. Otherwise, why even have forums?
We all handle it as well as we can. Are you serious lol? Better? No, I think the words you’re looking for is that it tends to hurt us less in current content, but that’s exactly how it would feel if we had comparable range ALL THE TIME. How are you this dense?
There’s no reason for the gimpage as explained above though. And yes it is, thank you for increasing the visibility of this post!
If the purpose is to force the player to use their mobility to overcome their range issues, then I’d say i understand it just fine, but I don’t agree that it should be considered an ‘addition’ to the spec, but rather a detriment. I am willing to listen and have my mind changed, but none of the arguments in this thread have done it so far.
My main before this expac was a druid. From a healing perspective, I felt much more mobile on that druid than I ever have on my evoker thanks to a significant number of instant and quick casts, wild charge, travel/cat form, dash, and probably another ability or two i’m forgetting.
When I heal on my evoker, I have a shorter range as well as positional requirements that means i often have to put myself in odd locations (and potentially in danger) in order to hit everyone, or I have to waste cooldowns shortly thereafter to catch up on the players that I couldn’t reach, which might come back to haunt me later when I need that button and it’s on CD.
Healing in this expac has already been frustrating enough with Blizzard nerfing throughput and M+ affixes largely falling on healers’ shoulders to deal with and/or heal through.
Now I won’t pretend that Prevoker is the only healer that other players have to play around their weaknesses, but they do have by far the most restrictive range, and i’m not just talking about the 30 yards. Breath is a cone. TA is a line. Our best “instant” emergency heal still requres travel time as we VE over to their location, which also has the potential to drag us through mechanics and get ourselves killed. With all the mechanics of fights going on, it’s not fair to expect players to always position themselves accordingly, and unfortunately, when they can’t do so is usually when they need healing the most.
Again, I ended my post with “I do not see it as a benefit to the design space for the class as-is.” Emphasis on the"as-is." If they were to tweak things to work better within that range, i’d also be cool with it. But It really does not feel like evokers are being compensated for the shorter range, and they should be.
The issue for me comes down to “how do we compensate evokers for the shorter range?”
- Mobility?
- As per my previous example, there are plenty of classes, such as druid, that feel just as, if not more mobile than evoker. from a healing standpoint, there are plenty of healers that can heal quite well and not have to rely on extra button presses to get to their targets and/or risk putting themselves in danger to do so.
- From a DPS standpoint, I would argue that there are more classes with our level of mobility (or better) than there are without, and are punished less either because of being a melee class that doesn’t have to cast, or having more DPS options and/or range to deal with mechanics requiring that mobility in the first place.
- Throughput?
- Evokers doing the most damage (or healing) because of their limited range will nevery fly with the rest of the playerbase, I shouldn’t even have to explain why.
- Utility?
- Outside of Aug (whose sole focus is utility) and Lust/Hero (which is provided by a multitude of classes at this point), the utility we provide is so niche that it is rarely missed, and not worth bringing an evoker over another class for.
Nothing evoker currently has feels like a worthy trade for 10-15 yards of range, apart for the whole Augmentation spec (which some people already hate and are calling for nerfs on, or to have it removed entirely). If Blizzard insists on leaving the range where it is, I feel like they need to add more compensation for it (and preferably something for all specs, and something that won’t anger the rest of the playerbase).
That’s the whole point of the forums, is to elicit change
LOL, stopped reading here. The copium is so real with you. The blind entitlement on these forums is my favorite part about coming here.
We don’t have a lego for people to come here to whine about so now we’re back on spamming threads about our range I guess (interesting how much less prevalent any range conversations were last tier, guess the forum Karens just always need something to be unhappy about).
Augmentation should have been the 40 yard spec if they are not going to budge on range for the other specs but…nope.
So back to my druid for now, the range just keeps me moving back to other classes.

Aug would be brought even if it had a 5 yard range. It’s an inherently broken concept that needs to be removed. It really doesn’t have a place in this range debate, because the whole spec needs to be trashed.
It’s also the most unfun thing I think I’ve ever played in any hotkey MMO, so there’s that.
Augmentation should have been the 40 yard
While I don’t find the range to be an issue for the DPS specs like some of these people, augmentation is actually the only spec strong enough to feel compensated for less range… Not sure what in the world makes you think they would warrant having the longest range of all three.
Imagine not nerfing augmentation 5 times but have ebon might be 25 yard range.
What? Blind entitlement? I just took a machine gun to all your “points” above and you just ignore it lol. You’re so f****g deluded.
Like I’ve said before, there are plenty of people who don’t bother with the forums because they don’t have the time or interest in going back and forth with idiots like you. I used to be one of those people. I never hopped on the forums, but now I have more time to be active in it and make my voice known.
It’s so funny how 95% of the people in the forums agree that the reduced range only gimps and only 5% of people like you actively advocate for being handcuffed during a fight lol
Perfect example is Nymue.
Your name also kind says it all “Guy - huge - man”. Compensating for something are we? Perhaps you drive a lifted truck with aftermarket headlights to blind everyone and roll coal to suffocate drivers behind you while you’re at it?

ROFL the ad hominem is cute here–real desperate with the insults kiddo.
but now I have more time to be active in it and make my voice known.
If you spent half as much time learning to play the spec as you did crying here on the forums, you’d help yourself a lot more
I play Augvoker, I was 2/8 M in S1, 4/9 M S2, and I’m almost AOTC and starting Mythic for S3.
I fight just behind the melee and tanks and do my job just fine. No problem with range issues.
The biggest problem I’ve run into so far in the new raid is all DEI based. It is wanting better colors between the boss floor and the telegraphed mechanics and accessibility for dragonriding on Tindall.
And if you need proof you can look up this character on raider io

Interesting, we have I think four color blind people in our raid (of varying types) and they were just saying this ones a lot better than many have been.
Obviously there are a lot of different things that can make this a struggle on an individual basis, though.
Is there any specific stuff in this one that is annoying for you?
Stood in line straight for six seconds on Nymue and died. That’s with a sound popping up (which I should find out if it’s a weakaura or Bigwigs and change the vocal.)
Not paying attention / looking at other things.
I have more time to be active in it and make my voice known.
Which is…exactly what forums are for. This moronic attitude certain people have towards negative feedback is so crazy. What is so unreasonable about complaining? Why are we getting these laughably immature comments going off about “whining, Karen, blind entitlement”?
Lmao, you’d think we were asking for our dps/healing to be tripled the way these people are reacting. And then you find out we are requesting…simple parity with every other ranged class in the game. …that’s it. QoL is not some wild ask.
Two things I said before still apply:
These trash people always try to hide behind “it’s subjective!” When they decide to defend some insanely ridiculous viewpoint that no reasonable person would ever hold in the first place. Its like some dumbass who feels the need to fight for their right to be stupid.
And, after well over 370 pages, not a single person has given an objective reason why the range needs to be short in the first place.

Design intent.
Why aren’t melee at 40 yards and hitting stuff?
You and your friend cannot comprehend that.
Why aren’t melee at 40 yards and hitting stuff?
Because then they wouldn’t be melee if they functioned at 40 yards, you nitwit.
We are classified as range but have an arbitrary limitation that gimps us of 10 yards compared to every other ranged in the game.
You tout “design intent.” And I’m here to say that it’s crap design intent. Like a plethora (countless really) of other poor design decisions that have been made in this game over the years across all of the classes.
Okay, tell me, why does melee exist? Better yet, why do melee have VARYING damage when standing at range?

Don’t play the class.
Just like, if people don’t want to be in melee, the answer is to not play melee, and not endlessly post about how BM hunter has more range.
Don’t play the class.
Don’t worry, after two seasons of wanting to scratch out my eyes dealing with the range limitation on preservation, I have happily rerolled to a class without an unnecessary range limitation to heal and dispel my teammates properly.
I’m still going to chime in and say this range limitation is a terrible design intent, because it is, and advocate that it be changed.
Fun fact: more preservation evokers have killed Tindral vs 0 resto druids, 0 resto shaman.
So it sounds like you just ignore the ranged mechanics then? The fact that you “fight just behind the melee and tanks” is exactly what’s wrong with the class. As a RANGED class, we get targeted for RANGED mechanics, which forces us to move out, often times out of range of our targets.
