Hardest content should get you the gear the fastest, That is it.
Should be a path for all players, and should be tough content for all players solo, duo, 3s whatever. Give players a reason to want to do the grind for power.
That is the most logical and best choice, because gear will always be replaced, and power will always keep scaling. It is a carrot that we will always keep chasing. Giving crafters, world questers, dungeons, and hell tower people as well. Should have paths to power.
I don’t mind if there’s solo play path for equal progression.
But it need to be MUCH more challenging than comparable group content.
The reason is group content is inherently harder because one has to coordinate with other people. Solo you just care for yourself.
If that can be fairly balanced, I’m on board.
You get the highest end gear from doing an M+ every week and getting legendaries through Torghast though, so the game is doing what you want. It gives casuals a slower path to BiS but the path is still there.
Visions were end game gear through solo content as well. So you also had that.

They devs will kill wow because of their prejudices and preconceived notions about what the playerbase wants. Or deserves.

Maybe their should, but creating functional content for all those groups takes time and money. Even more with the less people that do it because different classes and specs can do different things.
But again, you can get to 97% of all raiders without ever grouping or entering an instance. What is it that you think you’re missing?

You all got to remember, content patches will happen and gear gets replaced. People who do harder content will get to use the power longer, than people who grind it out the slower way.
I do know what I want just fine. I said it crystal clear. And visions was it sure, but healer? hello?
No reason to delete it, remove the gear divide from it. Cap loot at Herioc Raid, make Mythic award mogs or something, problem solved.
Small, big…it’s still true. How much more time do you want to wait for new content while they are making the same content for the 27th time so that your fourth alt’s third spec can do it?
I could see a system where the base rewards are gained via LFD dungeons, random BGs, and epic over-world only quests.
These would then be progressed via solo scenarios like the Chromie one from Legion, visions (item progression tokens only dropping when the vision is started outside a party), mage tower, brawler’s guild, etc.
This would yield one token that would upgrade one piece of gear one raid tier per week.
I don’t really mind what other’s gear is. There are plenty of other ways to delineate from each other if we want.

Thats exactly why WOW killed Everquest. Everquest catered to the Elite, and thus wow killed it.
Yeah, that’s true about visions. Maybe remove those? So it’s just about completing enough content to earn a token on Tuesday. Think of conquest for PvE
