Funny how executives at blizzard behaving unacceptable by any social standard has now been transferred to being a player problem. It is they that need to look at them selves hard in the mirror. The complete contempt shown to the player base for the past 6 odd years has been disgusting and yet we are the problem mmmhh
This is really the key.
Squelching exists for a good reason. Imagine one or two âtrigger words/phrasesâ that would be highly bad to have spammed for an hour (or however long it would take) in trade chat before a CS/GM type logged over, saw it, and then silenced the guy. Yeah, I get if they hired an army of GMs like in the past this would be faster but I just donât think they are interested in paying people anything in 2022. So the squelching accomplishes that.
But like you said streamers kind of showed you can get people with a âDC likeâ boot off line and when they log back in they are silenced pending review. So now people are just like⌠hey⌠wanna have some fun⌠lets mass report x,y,z and watch people go off line. It became a meme to mass report. For other people it became the weapon they needed to get revenge. In either case this is not in the spirit of what the squelch is for.
People that abuse it should totally get banned. It shouldnât be to hard that during the process of these squelch reviews you know who reported it, which cases are being over turned, and if a pattern starts to form of, âoh look, seems like player abc reported 44 people over the course of an hour and 43 of the 44 cases were over turnedâ then you probably got a problem.
Iâm curious about this system considering how much they want this to be âCLASSICâ - this wasnât the way the game rolled back in classic.
Oh and I see like 4-5 people afking in every AV iâve done this weekendâŚnothing done about them.
This post is cap Iâve been griefing for 3 days strait
The squelch has existed since May of 2007. They found it necessary to implement when they had this supposed âarmyâ of GMâs in the past.
The automatic mute (squelch) has been in the game since May of 2007. Itâs been in Classic since launch.
Ok, soo⌠I miss what this adds to the conversation but sounds good. Either way it feels like it exists for a good reason but is being abused.
Iâm alluding to the fact that their CS department is far larger now than it was when they implemented the squelch. Iâm merely musing at the irony in your posts.
Blame Twitch a 3rd party streaming site and big streamers like crybaby Esfand for that part, he chooses to play a pvp server, he trash talks and is toxicâŚhe than gets pvped crys then says he has a blizzard connect that can get people banned.
Oh and some of these larger twitch wow classic streamers tell their audience to mass report/grief people they which is technically against Twitchâs TOS but since they are such big streamers they get to break the rules.
Itâs gross the amount of abuse people like Esfand and their viewerbase is allowed to get away with, 90% of the wow pop doesnât even watch twitch or care about that platform, why does it have such a strong effect on in game stuff is beyond me.
10,000 viewers doing false reports to random people is gross.
This.
My GM is currently on a 7 day ban for saying âSh*t, you can actually farm on this realmâ in general chat like 1 hour after we transfered to Sulf. He got banned for inappropriate language in a public channel, something they have never before enforced unless it was excessive or directed at someone. He has a 9 day estimated wait time on his ban appeal when his ban is only 1 week long. He said when heâs back on, he will never again speak in game. If anyone needs to talk to him, heâll drop our discord so he can talk freely.
Is that a bit dramatic, yeah, but this is kinda getting a bit out of hand. He may not be wrongâŚ
I have all my chat channels closed. I barely speak to people. I am also a multiboxer so i am constantly reported for being a bot or cheating. I open a ticket through customer services very often just stating I am not a bot and I am playing by the rules and that they have created a awful gaming experience. I have been playing this game since it came out since vanilla and to see what has happened to people is very sad. I still enjoy the game and everything it has to offer but the people have changed for the worst. Best advice just donât speak to people and if you have to keep it game related and simple.
I have a thread also on the Top Page and its very similar to this one. I was banned for nothing and im just hoping to hear back from my appeal before WoTLK launches.
this is very well said
^^^^ we need more awareness for this
Itâs almost like Right Click Reporting and automated punishment systems where literally always a terrible idea that massively impacted the quality of the game, and tarnished what was once a pretty glowing customer service record.
u agree with you dude GMs 99% of the time handled it right, they understood. I just dont know what to think now
the old gms where largely also wow specific, as far as Iâm aware.
GMs today are generalized to the entirety of blizzardâs gaming library.
The end result is that the gms you do encounter are significantly less knowledgeable about the game/history in general and far more likely to cookie cutter response whether that response actually has any bearing on the issue .
amen brother
Well, the problem is they arenât really about customer support anymore. It is about meeting the ticket answer quota to keep your job or get the raise over other people that are answering more tickets.
So it is actually incentivized to get though as many tickets as possible so you look like you are the best or at the bare minimal hit the threshold to not get hounded by some supervisor that they themselves have some number their group has to hit or they get hounded by some manager that has their numbers they have to hit and so on and so on.
When this happens it is no longer about getting the right answers out there all the time. It is about hitting that number. So if just bumping out a response of âSorry nothing can be doneâ takes 20 seconds and you are 30 tickets away from your quota from the day guess what. You just bank out 30 tickets that say âSorry nothing can be doneâ to hit that number probably without even reading it. Now, yes, of course systems are in place to monitor this so what they end up doing is just randomly though the day pick a few to do it on and push it out so they donât just all show up right at the end of the day at quitting time.
Its called playing the job game instead of doing the actual job. Almost all high volume of calls / CS jobs revolved around metrics like this now. I know I did it for an electric company during COVID and I literally had a number on top of my screen that started off black in the morning. If I started to fall behind compared to the average call it started to turn orange and if to far behind red. If I was getting to far ahead it would turn green and eventually blue. Now if you hit blue or red you got a phone call asking what was going on. So you literally just bogus responded and called most the day to keep your number as close to black as possible. Before I went to the restroom for example I would bogus respond 2-3 really fast so the 10 minutes I was up I wouldnât go red for example. THIS WAS EXPLAINED TO ME BY MY SUPERVISOR OF WHAT TO DO.
It sucks. But that is life in a metrics driven high volume job. Trust me the people taking these tickets know its dumb. All of them hate their jobs. But at the moment its probably all they got. Blame the company not the ticket takers. Trust me they are just playing the game that is laid out before them.
Automated reporting doesnât fit in with the design of Classic wow period, where there is actual competition for limited resources , and has been an issue since the get go in 2019. The game was not designed around automated reports, it was around actual GMs resolving disputes and adjudicating and looking into nuance.
So many opportunities for spite-reporting today.
100%. On Grob their was a discord I heard about⌠I wasnât in it⌠but what its rumored to be is a group of people that were REALLY angry about people doing the zombie event. So they all got to together and found places in Stormwind to hide in while one of their dead friends ran out into the city and gave them names to report. The conditions were you were a zombie and you said ANYTHING. Boom, like 15-20 people just machine gun reports at you for abusive chat. Then they saw them get booted offline, they were happy af, then they would see them come back online and say nothing.
I wouldnât doubt if they did this to 100s of people. If not more.
