TBC, and vanilla and WotLK for that matter were originally designed as a competitive game for exactly those top 10%.
While casual players did have fun and were playing it, they were not the intended audience.
In my opinion, a game should be challenging. You should have to work for your improvement. And that, alongside with the erosion of the in-game community that came with god awful tools like raid finder to make people who didn’t want to find a guild or group on their own is what killed retail for me back around the time of Cata/MoP.
Technically the very existence of TBC itself is a step toward retail. Flying, smaller world, smaller raid sizes, smaller guilds, smaller everything. TBC was in many aspects more accessible. Retail is just further a long the mountain. But TBC already started it. TBC was already part of the problem.
It only make sense that the push for retail esque type features is more now than it was pre-beta Vanilla.
The people who wanted the old experience still do. It’s a different group who want to reatlize it. Blizzard wanted to monetize it as well.

People are raid logging because nobody wants to spend 300g+ a week to change talents.
Nobody wants to farm gold just put throw the gold in the garage.

People are raid logging because there’s nothing to do between raids. People are attuned, have all their reps, have all their badge gear, and likely have badges to spare. If you want to PvP you don’t need to respec 6+ times per week lol

why would u throw a warlock in the trash? They are the best class in the game.
If u respec for pvp, u would not only pay 50g like u said before.
Raid night: destro or affliction depending on what they got you doing
The entire rest of the week: SL/SL or whatever your different pvp spec is

Also it was a joke toward your comment respecing isnt throwing gold into the trash, it’s paying gold to optimize yourself for a chosen role, like pvp, pve, tank, healing, farming, exc. And its 100g a week if your smart about it. I can farm about 100g just doing the daily dungeons and cooking/fishing. Gold is easy to get in tbcc. If your complaint is the gold cost of respecing this might not be the game for you.
