What exactly are you saying, that your list shouldn’t apply to casuals, and they should be held back grinding for essences, then cloak upgrades, then maybe corruptions if the prepatch hasn’t dropped?
Anybody who does all that stuff on that list you gave us is as strong as the best main.
So did you mean for us to take the list literally or were you just trolling us? Because it now appears you think the system should be designed to keep people from catching up.
I love how people who claim they are “super casual” are recommending high rated pvp as a great way for a new alt to get echoes.
Why shouldn’t I “drag casuals into it”? You didn’t get to 472 being “super casual”. A super casual is doing world quests and getting upgrades from emissaries. And if they haven’t got the cloak, they are no longer able to earn any echoes.
You’re some raider’s alt who’s pretending to be a casual, because he doesn’t have any low performing alts who could pass as a casual.
Dont know why you’re trying to drag me imto an argument and put words into my mouth. People said there aren’t enough ways to collect echoes. I gave them a list. Im not fighting about this lol
I said “just playing”, language matters, too many narrow paths
it’s important to remember the most important lesson of the wall-of-fun, anything someone has to do too frequently (too repeatedly) ends up being “not fun”
okay so that’s TWO things on the list. Its not hard for a fresh 120 to get gear and hit up mythics.
And I didn’t say anything about high rated… I said just rated. You don’t have to have a high rating to get the echoes.
But anyway you lost any credibility you had when you accused me of being some raiders alt for no reason whatsoever other than to try to make me look bad somehow. So, whatever dude. Go complain to someone else.
Your alt will start with a -10k echo deficit (assuming you need to buy 4 rank 3 essences).
Luckily those same assaults you were doing reduces that to only -4k (1k echoes 2x per week x3 weeks for the assaults).
Now during this time you were doing visions - let’s assume each run is minimally successful w/o a carry and includes Thrall (granted thrall may not be required for quest but assuming best case).
Rank 1-5 is just first area so 250*5 = 1250) - lowers your essence deficit to -2750 echoes.
Rank 6 is 1 bonus area I believe so 250+125=375 lowers deficit to -2375 echoes.
Rank 7,8 require 2 bonus areas each so (250+125+125)*2=1000 lowers deficit to -1375 echoes.
Rank 9,10,11 each require full clears so 750*3=2250 echoes reducing deficit to 125 echoes.
So you will get your essences for “free” (i.e. just visions + assaults) echo currency at roughly rank ~12. Probably around 10 or 11 if you include heroic darkshore and LFR.
Finishing out the math though
Rank 12, 13, 14, 15 assume full clears (since you need lost areas assuming you can do lower areas and boss) - so 4*750 = 3000 echoes.
In this time, roughly 21 emmisaries will have come and gone so 21*250 = 5,250. I didn’t include this since it isn’t “free” (as in outside of normal cloak upgrade activities) - but still worth noting. This brings total to ~8250 in surplus by the time your done.
This does not take into account any of the other sources, but it also assumes your vision runs will go perfect each time (no failed attempts).
Your mileage will vary on the other sources given that you still actually need to be farming gear throughout all of this (that leg of progression still exists Blizz - just an fyi) and I’m assuming you aren’t just being carried through visions or heroics from day 1.
So basically the first 3 weeks of your alt will be spent spamming dailies/assaults/etc. just to get that cloak to a semi-competitive state. It should leave you with 4 rank 3 essences (minimum needed) and likely at least enough to purchase 1 corruption.
Good luck playing your main during this time though as this assumes going pretty ham on farming currency/running visions.
So is it better than nothing. Sure. Does it leave a lot to be desired still? Absolutely.
Oh by the way, If you didn’t play at all in 8.2 you are still just SoL depending on which essence grinds you need to do - but that is a whole other debacle.
It really doesn’t, if you just play the Echo accumulation rate is actually quite high, my crappy 4th alt warlock has already almost finished buying everything (Essences, Corruptions and caught up half way with cloak, including some L3 corruptions sitting in the bank until I decide which item slot to drop them on).
If you’re a fresh 120 you should be able to finish most stuff (ie 90% not 100%) within 3-6 weeks.
I could be wrong but your cloak is already at 89 resistance. That seems to be the max you can bring it up to using cores gotten from Mother. The last 3 resistance to bring it to 92, probably has to be obtained by either running the weekly horrific vision, or by killing N’zoth. If you have already done those before the cores became available then you are most likely out of luck until next week. When the cap for resistance becomes 95, and Mother will sell cores up to 92. Buy the core from Mother then run either the vision, or the raid. Hopefully that will get us to the 95 cap.
Perhaps if you had hours of time available every day to play you could finish most things in ~ 5 weeks, but the majority of players can’t dedicate 2-3 hours to wow every single day.
Until this week, you also couldn’t catch your cloak up. It was literally impossible. You simply had to get your 2 cores each week and wait.
Many of the essences force you to wait 1-3 weeks to obtain, or are locked behind faction which may take you even longer to unlock depending on your playtime. Some essences are locked behind old raids, so good luck getting those. Others are locked behind PvP. One of them makes you do a PvP island. Completely irrelevant content at this point. I will never obtain the PvP essences and I just have to live with that.
For some reason the PvP essences are bis for PvE content as well for some specs, which seems silly, but that is an entirely different topic.
Anyway, I have no doubt that there are a number of people who simply looked at what they had to do, and realized it was not worth the effort. Why play now when they can just come back at pre-patch or shadowlands launch, when they will once again be on equal footing.
It’s the same reason I will never play an alt in BFA. I don’t want to have to repeat 5-8 weeks of content I literally just did all over again.
After playing Legion, it’s difficult to imagine what the devs were thinking. By this point in the game, you could send your alts legendary tokens, you could send them faction tokens if your maiin was exalted, your legendaries started at 1,000 ilvl, you didn’t have to spend 4 weeks “leveling them up”. How did Blizzard go so far backwards. It’s sad to think about.
