what a new and refreshing idea?
hmmm, welfare epics, have I heard that before ?
and didn’t epics drop from mobs in the world in vanilla?
kudos for a thought provoking post!

Ive been lvl 70 for months now, where is my free 447 gear that you think just drops from the sky into my lap?
If you want this, it would require Blizz to stop focusing on endgame content only. They would have to provide enough content for everyone to be able to feel satisfied, gear is the easiest way they do it. As long as 90% of the focus is endgame content and nothing more this will not change.
What is amazing is the entitlement of some players that want to decide what other players get. All the gear belongs to blizzard, they are far more capable and empowered to decide what gear anyone gets.
If you want to do something meaningful go to med school or join the military. WOW is not where you go to find meaning.
Its the same premise. Epics dont just rain from the sky and when one drops… its actually an epic feeling.
Now a days your literally farming for the same item every 3 months just at a higher item lvl . Retail is a treadmill, hell so is classic. Just not as prevelant as classic
Sometimes I come back to read some of the things I’ve said and I wonder if I have dain bramage.
Yea… Illusion of Progress. Bleh.
I kinda get what the op means. I remember back in vanilla walking into the bank in my mish mash of blues and greens, and standing there was a huge tauren in full tier with Thunderfuy, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.
It was quite an impressive sight to a relaltively new player.
Meh. The era you are referring to involved anyone who could not raid or do competitive pvp being “done” their character once they got everything from the single difficulty dungeons.
I disliked that honestly.
Now the system is certainly bloated with loot… but at least “finishing” a character is more nuanced.
I still think it’s impressive when someone has a mythic raid drop, or they have the mythic raid mogs. The unfortunate thing is that some of those mogs are so ugly no one would want to show them off lol. Yadayada they can just buy the runs, yes, sure.
ROFL, oh man, it’s been awhile since I’ve heard people call modern day gear ‘welfare epics’. You should go roll a character on the Wrath servers if you care so much.
‘Epic’ gear only felt as such because it was a newer game and there were fewer of them. The color of the item of text doesn’t matter - it’s all about the stats. Epic gear from the highest tiers of raiding is still valuable stat and proc-wise. It shows you’ve put in the time to do the content. Don’t know what else to tell you other than that if purple text just doesn’t excite you, it’s because you’ve played the game to long.
I dunno how to break this to you, subby, however, all the pixels in WoW are meaningless.
It never meant anything to be honest, it was merely being new and a dopamine rush. I remember back in diablo, unique items felt like it meant something, then I realized it is just a color and that the initial excitement is gone because that dopamine hit is not as effective. It was still neat to find a shako or occulus (sorry for different game reference lol)
And we didn’t have transmog, so the raiders looked good and the rest of us looked like clowns. But now it’s ilvl, which can be quickly noticed by a players HP.
Go strut that big health pool and feel superior.
I played back then.
It didn’t mean anything then either.
Hey, it’s the purple font thread again.
Not really. It started in Wrath.
Back in my day we had to insert like six cds to install wow! I don’t think you should be able to download the whole game at once as it’s unfair to those who live in Australia on dial up
It’s for enchanting.
