Paladins don’t get the same return on spirit as a priest* or druid.
They have a different coefficient for the stat.
Did you play classic?

Find one piece of gear sub 40 that has mp5.
I’m talking from leveling perspective, spirit is just fine for dungeons, yes you want mp5 in raids since you are spamming heals, but in dungeons a good healer can do with spirit.
Saying that spirit is worthless for paladin is just plain wrong. It’s inferior to mp5, but it’s useful too.
I think they’re discussing the leveling 2H tank setup, which is viable.
I would do this, but make sure you swap to defensive stance and then bloodrage and battle shout after charging in, whirlwinding, then either sunder or revenge on main target. Don’t bloodrage before defensive stance or you waste rage and threat.
It takes practice, theory crafting, and a healer that is familiar with what your capabilities, limitations are. Imo, it is gear dependent, same with the healer that is healing the 2h’r.
But all that is a moot point considering it is known to be viable, so that’s it.
Yep to be clear here is the exact sequence of abilities to successfully initiate a 2H tank pull in a leveling instance.
ASSUMPTIONS:
Do this:
Now you have super solid threat on all mobs, so check in on your health bar. If you’re taking serious hits, swap to shield and focus on rotating through mobs applying sunders, use shield block and reserve your revenges for the main target.
The locks opened with hellfire.
The mages immediately went for a flamestrike into blizzard.
The hunters opened with multishot, got a crit.
Even the shaman healer is sending out a chain lightning before the second GCD.
But no, don’t you put on that 2h weapon mr. warr, you’re a TANK. Now shut up and hold all this AoE aggro or I’m going to yell at you about how you should be tanking.

You think I’m just gonna keep this WW axe in my backpack after grinding for it? Nah bro. I’m tanking with this thing.
I think you’re overreacting a bit. I play a resto shaman and i have not had much issue with dps warrior tanks. and even during the times where it seemed like they were taking too much damage, I kindly asked them if they could put on a shield and 1h. no need to bug out about it, its just a game.
Hey OP. I heal dungeons with 2H tanks no problem. They 2H trash and are fine plus they dont take a ton of damage. Though they do put on a Shield for Boss fights. The problem is not 2H tanks, the problem is tanks that think they are good but are truly crap. If you have a good tank. They can start out a fight with a 2H and switch to shield and weapon fast if they are taking too much damage.
What I truly think is the problem is DPS that go HAM the second a tank hits 1 target. Then they cry that the tank cant keep aggro.
Imagine doing it just cause everybody else does it. You probably speed cause you see other people doing it

This is the easiest way to maintain threat in the classic WoW spell/melee cleave meta.
You’re wrong about warrior tanks.
Peroid.
You don’t get a say in this.
Fury warrior tanks can easily tank any content and do it better with less stess on healers than any prot paladin.
This is fact thats been proven for years.
Thanks for emphasizing! And there are probably slight steps that should be done differently there based on circumstances. But my goal was to get the gist of how it can be done.
You are right and wrong. Good tanks yes because they know how to switch between DPSing and tanking. When a Tank who is DPSing sees they are taking too much damage they switch to their 1H and shield to easy up on the damage. Its a good setup. However when you got Mr. I watched Skarm tank do this, I am 4 or more levels below the boss and I have sht gear goes charging in. Their DPS build is completely sht they are useless. And yes there are too many of these guys. If they threw on a 1H and a shield most good healers can handle that. However if the tank keeps insisting on being a dumb a$$ you cannot fix that problem.
Its like I said before people are going to go into leveling dungeons thinking Skarm tank is 100% the way to tank in all situations and many will fail. Its because they dont understand what Skarm does.
Agreed if you aren’t defaulting to sword + shield, you need to play with a close eye on your health bar.
we’re not on the vanilla patch
SM can be tanked by mages… congrats!
Revenge is how I managed to keep/hold threat pre-SM, I never used Sunder because of being rage starved.
Sunder is really good, but it’s only really good if you have excess rage.
