tanking comes with a lot of strings attached, if you’re a casual like me, you won’t get to tank end game content because there is really stiff competition from people who can comit to schedules and put in more time than me (which I agree with, they worked harder for it than I did)
This puts you in the position of the “casual tank” which means you’re gonna be pugging a lot. Pugs come with a tons of risks (toxic attitudes, inept players, ninjas, people who say you are too fast, people who say you are too slow, people who want to backseat tank) and no prospect for seeing the end-game (because you don’t have the time, or the guild willing to give you a coveted tank slot)
so… why would I tank?
and just to be clear I’m not saying Blizz should change anything to fix this, they have been trying for over a decade in retail (increased tank rewards in lfg, eased spec changing, made tank specs more viable in solo content) and still have not solved the problem.
I think it’s just a fundamental flaw in the classic MMO trinity game design

Here on skeram we have too many tanks and healers, go figure
Imagine going into tbc without your classic wow guildmates and friends that you have been playing with for 22 months, in set dungeon grind groups.
But let’s change the game for this rando retailer everyone.
The good thing is questing is actually quicker and the layers are there for it. You just wont be efficient on your rep or attunements.
Chances are, the sweaties will get me while I’m questing. I probably won’t level too fast.
There’s only 40 of us, think you’ll be alright ;P. Although if i see you…
There was a serious war on the horde side of the wood/ metal starter quest, but thats cause all the ally came over to us
As a Horde guild, we power-leveled 3 paladins for 25 man raids. We had 2 more paladins who hit level 60. We previously organized that even as ret/holy, our paladins would be leveling to 70 as prot for dungeon cleaves.
Organization.
It matters.

It adds up surprisingly quick and is pretty annoying. 6 sec CD on Shield Slam over and over dispel just baked into your rotation. Where purge on casters you sacrifice mana.
The tool kit just works well where there is counter-play. Hamstring druid, he tries to powership cast HoTs, hamstring again/dispell his HoTs in Bear. Druid has to come out of Bear to recast HoTs, silence just before he comes out… Then stun.
It’s the combination on all short CDs it becomes oppressive and annoying. Just my thoughts about it. Tons of stance dancing counter-play fun.
Looking for tank for Slave Pens spam

I won’t tank pugs unless i know the people. It’s beyond frustrating dealing with apes that treat dungeons like retail or do poop tier dps.

It will only get worse as the Xpac goes along.

I’m just waiting till most of my awful boosty gear is replaced before I go into tanking the new dungeons.
I’m a tank, but no one wants to run me through dungeons I’m even leveling as prot. See you all when I hit 58!
I personally love tanking, but the playerbase makes it such a pain in the tuchus at times.
You either have sweats who are screaming at you to pull the entire dungeon or you have mouthbreathers that do 50 dps.
People can’t just play the game anymore apparently.
Weren’t you one of the clowns camping Felwood? I seem to recall your name.
Na i sat in org and pvped. I havent been to felwood since p1
Must be from the forums. There was a group - shaman, druid, rogue and I think a priest.
I was pvping at the dark portal yesterday though with a mage

I stopped playing classic after ZG, i’m solo
Let me tell you from my Guardian stand point, I’m absolutely loving the lack of tanks. I get into anything I want and get to be picky about it.
The dps in my guild just don’t care, they will go full balls to the walls 2k dps on pull and just say “figure it out bud”.
I don’t mind, I think its kinda funny when they die, but the players I play with are also “generally” good enough to kyte mobs until the mob die/help eachother out with slows, stuns, roots etc. Realistically pug dps just need more situational awareness. When we pull 4 plus packs my only job is to tank for a couple seconds to get them grouped so that the dps can starting getting slows up.
