Any fury warrior can tank a dungeon grind to 70 with good level 60 gear (T2.5-3/PVP gear). Can dual wield tank a lot too with a good healer.
But yes, there is a dearth of tanks right now because a lot of the warriors rerolled to FOTM classes. It’s not a shock that many who played warrior in classic/vanilla did so because it was the strongest class for tanking and damage.
Now that same group of people is off maining warlocks/hunters for the most part.
Literally every other post in LFG last night was “LF1M Tank for Ramparts/BF/SP”.
Issue for horde is the paladins are undergeared, might be able to tank some, but just not as good as full geared T2.5-3 warriors with Naxx weaps/TF.

Bingo! I’ve seen tanks in the best gear, etc and they still just don’t have that “tank situation awareness” that it takes to be a good tank. Also the best tank can be made to look “bad” and be blamed for all sorts of crap that he has no control over when the DPS is not “letting him/her” tank.

People are in fist fights over me. <3
Healers are, apparently, hard to find.

The simple fact is that this could be solved with dual-spec being introduced to TBC. There are few tanks because being a tank is not very good for solo content. So those players who don’t have a consistent dungeon group will be mostly doing solo content, which means it’s better for them to be DPS. I can almost guarantee most of the issues around this could be solved by dual-speccing.

Yeah when a tank literally bounces from pack to pack out of range of their healer and constantly moving around corners so they are out of LoS you can tell they have no idea or interest in tanking. Those “tanks” need to be paired up with resto druids, only way to keep up with them is not having to rely on hard casts.

I don’t like melees in classic. If i was a big fan of ret or fury - i’d tank on leveling/gearing.
brb out-purging shamans and mages with my CDd melee range shield slam
Tanking is easy. Can’t wait to start selling runs and reserving items at 70

Na I’m in Demonic Plague, all the other ones are dead or gone
This is every MMO, ever. Part of it is no one wants to tank because you got DPS pulling or people being mad at you for not knowing where to go. If folks weren’t jerks, you’ll probably see more. Same way for us healers. One mess up and that’s it. Stop treating people like garbage.

98.9% of all dps don’t understand how threat works. That’s why there’s almost no PUG tanks. Hell even sodapoppin was complaining about his guildies attacking before he landed a single hit as a bear druid.

This is amplified by respec costs and the lack of dual spec in TBC and effects Healers as well. It’s painful to do any kind of solo play as a Tank or Healer and it gets very expensive to respec.

More dps tanks do the more people are interested in playing them.
From historically observation

There’s plenty of reasons why there aren’t more tanks:
- 25 man raid reduced tank proportional quantity requirement
- No dual spec and lack of tank spec viability outside of PvE groups
- Role difficulty and lack of community patience for those learning the role
- Only 3 specs can play it
- Some people don’t enjoy tanking
- Melee is already worse in this expansion for PvE content
- Most guilds moving into TBC already have established tanks, and those are going to generally have people to play with already

I noticed this yesterday as well. Had locks and ele shams opening with aoe the moment i pulled, and bears can’t just maul anymore. Took me a little to get used to tanking again.
But i do love it
It would help if the dumb holy paladins were tanking.
Sorry my group was hogging all the tanks, having them do non tank roles so the guild could play together. Though we did keep switching off who got to tank throughout the night.
