I wonder if there’s a solution to that. Pretty much nothing changed in 17 years, only way to find tank quicker than in an hour - be a tank yourself, eh.
I have crap tank gear and got a group right away. It was nice.
I’m a warlock, i’m probably not going to get into single dungeon while leveling
No guild support?
If you were Alliance on Heartseeker, I’d help ya out.
I’m not on NA
Yes. As per usual, tons of people want others to play the role of tank/healer, but few are willing to take up the mantle.
Fewer still willing to do so with pugs, and understandably so. Far too many randos have no sense of threat, CC, or aggro range. This isn’t to say you, OP, are a bad pug, but there are way too many out there that will absolutely ruin the experience of anyone starting out tanking/healing.
I was seeing a ton of spam with groups looking for DPS last night, admittedly you have to be quick on the draw cause they filled fast. But I spent about as much time dpsing as tanking ramps.
Never will be until Tanks are needed in greater numbers in all content at the very minimum. Plus, Tanking just… doesn’t click with some people. I don’t know what it is but you can tell right away those that “get it” and those that don’t, in how they move, how they approach pulls, etc.
Anyone laugh at all the ‘dps’ warriors in lfg?
My server is too big, too many dps, no tanks at all
My Paladin started as holy, and I swapped to tank since I could never find one.
Now I’m a tank and all the guild druids and Paladins are too.
One of the biggest reasons a tank bottle neck exists is because tanking is primarily a support role with little utility outside of PVE. So if someone roll’s a tank, they are announcing to the world 90% of the time (I AM A PVE’R). Thats not the issue just some background.
The issue is every 5 man group “needs” 1 tank. But every 25 man group only needs 2 (maybe three tanks). So when you are a tank looking for a guild the tank slots are almost always filled; so the dungeon group dilema is reversed. I’m not saying its a solveable issue, just pointing out the obvious. Why would someone who wants to roll a tank roll a tank if they cant have a raid spot?
Several of the people in my guild have this very exact issue, we had 5-8 people who wanted to play tank but we have no tank spots available and neither do any of the other top guilds on the server. While annecdotal this does somewhat explain the larger game economy issue of the subject.
Tanks don’t get a lot of power until Wrath, so if you try to do anything without a group in TBC you feel crippled and still squishy without a healer. It had very little engaging gameplay unless you are a Feral Druid. You can’t blame people for not playing the most boring role design in the worst era for that design .
The most fun for tanks is soloing old content and massive gold farms, which is truly fun don’t get me wrong. But tanking TBC dungeons? Ew.
I like Pugs. I also marvel on wipes. The groups that improve during runs are the reason I enjoy playing. Puts the MM in mmorpg.
Conversely I hate carries because going afk or watching others mow things down…I can watch a diablo or dark souls twitch stream. Any gear I get wasn’t earned…pointless to me. I only joined carries in DAOC (doomer here) and stopped after just a couple: imagine WoWs are probably easier.
I made all of my groups on pagle last night as the healer. Posted for maybe 2-3 minutes that I was looking for a tank before getting one. So, not bad. Did ramps a few times and one BF.
They’re out there, and everyone definitely wants to run dungeons right now. No doubt there will always be more dps than tanks, but it’s definitely feasible.
Any game that uses the group trinity will always have a tank/healer bottleneck.
If yo I want fast/easy groups and faster gearing always go tank/heals yourself. (Stated from a 15 year healer - Vanilla to end of BFA)
Tanking can be highly stressful.
People don’t follow instructions and you are stuck chasing mobs around because they didn’t wait .05 seconds for you to establish threat.
Or they run ahead and pull themselves, thinking its a normal quest mob. Or that its retail, where you can sneeze and pull threat.
The healer that is busy watching youtube videos so they always do that last minute heal when you are at 10% health.
People don’t want to deal with that, that’s why there are not many tanks.
100%. I came back for TBC and rolled a prot pally. I can find groups all day long. However, finding a guild with an open tank spot has been a challenge.
Guess no one knows that Prot War has some of the best PvP utility. One of the reasons why I mained Prot in PvP since the start. SS dispel usually puts Prot at the top of dispells in BGs or Arena. 12 sec CD on silence, 2 stuns that don’t DR with each other. I rather enjoy it and is huge utility for a Prot to dispel HOTs, Buffs or Priest bubbles so Dps can go ham. Not to mention sunders dropping armor baked into one of their main attacks. It’s really fun.
Then roll a tank. Be the solution and not the problem.
