END War Mode!

Im not sure I’d say bliz has abandoned pvp servers. They engineered realm balances in SoD, which they didn’t have to do. So they must care at least a little.

Realm balancing in SoD has nothing to do with Warmode/WPvP and retail servers though.

Those servers don’t have server to server sharding to balance the horde to alliance interactions in the open world.

War Mode’s implementation always felt like it was an over-engineered quarantine system. Rather than adding value to encourage PvP, it segregated it out. Players opting in were greeted with less populated and less balanced worlds when compared to the normal “PvP servers”. The unrealized potential ideas these shards could then logically be combined never came to fruition. Just the damage.

Used to have the occasional organic rivalry, communities of known, characters who developed actual renown, bots & farmers culled, discussions had beyond the domes of just your faction/just your guild, understanding established. Demolished by a toggle, fractured by structures only logical to network managers.

Heck the rewards aren’t even that great. Horde consistently are stuck at the 10% ‘dynamically’ adjusted war mode incentive. Quests which reward only gold, but are placed inside of containers are excluded. World pvp gear currency that is second rate from the bottom only with the inclusion of crafted versions.

At this point I think that wpvp/pvp in general is just a side task for blizzard. So much potential for awesome stuff and yet… nothing. I was so let down by the warfronts being pve. Can you imagine the awesome fights if it was pvp! ughh… sadge.

This has never not been the case.

Ehh not really. Mop had timeless isle, we had wintergrasp and tol barad, ashran. Warfronts were possibly pvp but they made them pve.

Wintergrasp, Tol Brad, and Ashran were in the world and big events. I could even throw in the bridge in nazjatar. (Super fun).

Now it’s let’s cater to pve crap. PvP/wpvp is def the worst it’s been so far. They could do so much!

I’m inclined to agree. I joined a PVP server on purpose and have had substantially less WPvP encounters since Warmode was added

The last time I tried war mode was at the end of DF. It was so boring I couldn’t even tell it was on. Ended up joining an SoD PvP server instead, was much better

Sadly those days are gone. Its really frustrating how blizzard has destroyed pvp and wpvp in general.

I play in CS pvp server on SoD and the world pvp is pretty fun there. I’ve been part of some pretty big skirmishes and city fights

If we had a better version of what we had in BFA, war mode would work. Like assaults but HUGE assaults in a region with good rewards. It would pull a lot of people from safe areas. And I’m talking GOOD rewards. Like stuff from the trading post good, or sockets for pvp gear or other sweet rewards. Perhaps even like server acknowledgment of your victory in that regions main area.

So much they could do, but we got…. Boring land. BETTER DO YOUR DELVES AND M+! Le sigh…

There’s not much you can do when you take so much out of the overworld. With even solo content instanced, there’s not much to fight over in world pvp.

World pvp becomes a griefing fest or a less exciting battleground.

Quite the long-running thread. The damage is done as far as server communities go, regrettably. No putting that genie back in the bottle.

What they could and should do is fix their sharding system within War Mode, such that there’s not one or two active shards and a dozen dead ones.

But that would be more effort than they’re willing to expend on PvP at all, let alone WM.

“Retail” turning in to a single player game for the most part

I played on ED during MOP and yes it was fantastic and full of WPvP, I would love to see the servers go back to what they used to be.

Have you tried not playing on a dead server group?

More alliance to fight than there ever has been.

PvP servers were way better than war mode

This isn’t the problem. The problem is the lack of any time put into wpvp. War mode was the nail in the coffin. Bfa had the assaults with rewards and players got out more. Those helped a lot.

We need more open world wpvp stuff to get players out of the safe zones. I really believe making safe zones unsafe and having it attackable would really get more people fighting. You can’t stop griefing but as I recommend before having npcs help repel enemy forces after a time then leading to a safe zone for an hour or two.

Biggest thing is PvP servers. Bring them back. Or implement new ways for players to engage in the open world NOT some perfectly balanced instanced stuff.

If you are playing horde, and you are not drowning in alliance at every war crate, you are playing on a dead server group. Thats all there is to it.

Always put in 1 “Get the crate. Im en route to crate. FIght for the crate!”. It helps sometimes. Other times yeah just fly away lol. Or jump in like a wrecking ball, die, res when 1 or 2 alliance left and mess em up. I 1v2 a monk and hunter yesterday at a crate after dieing to 20 alliance. I killed the hunter 3 time once when he tried to fly away. Later that night I killed them again while doing world quests lmfao.
