That stuff is used to target people failing metrics for firing under normal business. Layoffs are different and are in many cases triggered for objectively stupid reasons that can best be described as “pure vibes” at the C suite level, and have extremely poor targeting based on ungranular things like gross salary with no consideration for experience. We literally just saw this happen with the big FAANG layoffs firing people they immediately tried to rehire. Twitter exemplified that by desperately trying to un-fire more that a few subject matter experts.

Every single metric in every single industry and field that has tried it shows office and software work is done more efficiently and effectively when working from home than previously in offices. The transition was happening even before covid as a perk. RTO is not a science and data driven decision. It’s driven by sunk costs on real estate and nonsensical personal vibes from ceo’s.

And again, no one really knows what goes on behind the scenes for wow. Maybe the work has been slacking the last couple of years leading them up to this RTO policy.

People keep bashing the boomers if it weren’t for the boomers out small town wallymart would have closed due to the fact younger entitled people want mega bucks to even think about working for a living and the boomers have to supplement their social security or else they can’t make ends meet ,so leave the boomers along or else see your wallymart close for lack of workers.
So they suck it up till he’s booted and then back to wfh if that’s the case.
You mean when Ron DeSantis sent operatives to Texas to kidnap legal asylum seekers by telling them there were jobs and work papers waiting for them, and fly them to Martha’s Vinyard, while forging false addresses in the applications submitted for them, which meant none of them would be able to appear in the far off locations they were scheduled for hearings the next week by that action?

Hard to do when that could take months or years and in the meantime the game tanks, he shakes out all the best talent from the company and ruins the business on multiple fronts. It’s a time old corporate sabotage strategy.

Why would the game tank? Because spoiled people leave over RTO? Sorry I have no compassion for that situation. Work is work whether from home or office.

Oh, and young people aren’t “trying to work for mega bucks”, the cost of living has just soared far beyond the wages offered. My house was 250k in 2019, now it’s worth over 500. Nobody without generational wealth can afford that.

Because mismanaging your employees reduces employee morale and the number of qualified employees.
You mean you want the best employees to leave, because they are the ones who have the most options? How is that going to benefit current workflow?
Except when working from home is much cheaper than living near Irvine or commuting for hours every day.
If you have no compassion for workers who are being put into a situation where the only way to maintain their living standard is to change their place of employment, that’s a you thing that you want to happen even though it will negatively affect the company that is sabotaging its own ability to complete work in order to make some sort of counterproductive power play against its workforce.
When the best people leave, not only do you have to pay more to get good people again (blizzard employees being notoriously underpaid already, and this isn’t going to make it easier to find people to work there), but regardless of how skilled the new employees are, it will take many months before they are at full productivity.

I worked for over fifty years doing production work I’ve since retired and everything I own is paid for can you say the same thing?I was saddened to see 80 year old people with canes and walkers staffing our local wallymart and no young kids to be seen anywhere.
I wish people would stop using acronyms. What’s RTO?

Because they set up a system in place for HomeOffice work to finally get ironed out. It cost money to switch to that system. Dragonflight was all HomeOffice done after the system was in place, Shadowlands you can see how initial HomeOffice without said system in place made it suffer. Now that the HomeOffice system in place they want to remove it again and go back to office mandate, but in the years that WorkFromHome has been in place they have specifically hired talent that can ONLY work from home and the past few years at blizz this is all they know.
The fact Dragonflight came out as well as it has all HomeOffice is proof of concept that it works fine and there is no real reason to impiliment RTO other than to be over controlling with no real justification. Now they will have to spend the money to remove the HomeOffice test systems restructure teams in office hours, spend resources to hire back their loss, then have to train all new people, all because Bobby Kotick is mad noone likes him in his own company and M$ has said he’s the first to go once it is theirs, so now he’s pushing out all these mandates only because he is mixing his ego trip with his power trip and just straight tripping. If you have no compassion for lazy workers I can’t imagine your take on a lazy loser power tripping CEO throwing a tantrum.
