Requirement: Show up for work.
Here’s the problem, though. There are plenty of jobs in this day and age that have no demonstrable necessity for the person occupying that role to actually be in an office space. We do not live in a “work at the company for a while and get rewarded” era, and we haven’t for a few decades now. Companies demonstrated repeatedly that there is no such thing as loyalty to their employees, so why would their employees want to inconvenience or run themselves down for a company to do a job they don’t need to do that for?
So you’re saying people who can effectively accomplish all of their duties on a computer from home are not “working”? Are we really going that route here?
I’m saying if one of the requirements for your job is showing up for work, you show up, like any other normal adult.
This is a REALLY slippery slope you’re stepping on here. Sure you wanna head that way?
Are they unable to “show up for work” by doing their work on a computer? Is that what you’re saying? What about jobs posted as remote-only that lie? What about jobs that pull the rug on it later?
This isn’t a slippery slope. If you are required to come to work, you go to work. Why is this such a hard concept for you?
I find it funny you addressed nothing else about what I said to try to disagree with that.
Enjoy the boot you’re licking. It’ll happily step on you whether or not you lick it.
Why argue with someone who has been arguing for hours in this thread about remote work? They’re irrelevant. Ignore them.
Maybe you are just entirely clueless as an individual. It’s okay, nobody thinks less of you for it, you’re on the WoW forums. That’s pretty normal.
Are you a child pretending to be an adult?
Certainly doesn’t seem to be the case. You’re doing a very good job of acting like a child yourself, though!
Okay. You can’t force the company to operate that way, is the point. I was in the same situation and I left the company. That’s all you can really do.
Yeah. And now we have a crisis map on what can’t get done because employees are leaving. Doesn’t seem like a smart decision on Blizzards part
This just in. Blizzard is in an economy.
More news at 11.
Let them fail then.
Isn’t this just a failure on the behalf of management’s expectations?
If your goalposts are “respond to email”, that’s the natural consequence. If the goalposts are “sit at your desk and look busy”, that’s also going to result in the same outcome. I have mastered the art of opening a spreadsheet and clicking cells.
Fundamentally, if this is your situation, you aren’t being challenged enough. But I’m not sure it’s fair to assume that all your peers are as well organized and executing.
Erm, doing what people who are paying you ask you to do isn’t a slipery slope lol.
Its how life works.
I mean…I am. I’m just commenting that it’s dumb. All this means is that Blizzard products suffer.
