Employee Fired For Writing Dialogue For Venture Company Loot Goblins

wow.
just.
wow.

100%, I went through this phase as well. It’s not a good idea to try and be friends with your boss.

There’s no proof he didnt either. Nor is he going around trying to clear his name with his own proof that what was done was in line with company policy as per guidelines for his job.

Instead it was straight to Twitter (much akin to everyone going straight to the forums).

Two sides to every story and usually the one to go blast theirs on social media more times than not isnt telling the whole truth, if any at all

You should ask yourself why you are so willing to go with this persons version of events 100% at face value unquestioning. You should look at your own biases before pointing out ours.

Actually it’s a great idea to try to be ‘friends’. In the sense of having a good working relationship and networking, but always keep in mind that ANYTHING you say can eventually be used against you. So be smart about your social interactions and don’t say anything that you wouldn’t want someone to weaponize against you unless you’re able to own it or intentionally want to reveal such information.

Being friendly and being friends are two different things though. When people say friends there is different level of social interaction than just being friendly.

There are lots of people I am friendly with but I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw them. On the other hand I have friends that would help me move a body.

I’ve debated with several people on this forum that think even if him jabbing at kotick was the only thing he did, he still deserves to be fired, which I think is insane.

Who knows what’s true in office politics, but I’m 100% against this corporate shill idea that if you offend your boss in any way you deserve immediate firing. No warning, no disciplinary action, no written notice, not even a paid/unpaid temporary leave, just immediate firing because the boss is sensitive.

He made a comedic joke for a goblin referencing a meme. Was this the only reason he was fired? Who knows. But let me just ask you this simple question. IF it was the only reason he was fired, do you think it’s justified?

This is incorrect. He had been terminated around March. His tweet was in response to Bobby’s Variety article and it blew up in the last 24 hours.

This explains most of what I was assuming.

See you took a risk and it paid off. You must have had to Gossip or talk about him to make this firing happen. The story isn’t real but I’m playing interested for the sake of my boredom

You don’t falsify numbers when you’re supposed to be the 3rd party watching/testing the other constructors when they are laying down concrete or asphalt

That’s how potholes happen or foundations crack and buildings fall apart, that’s a huge liability

That’s why whenever you see news about how a building/house collapsed cause someone didn’t do their job making sure it doesn’t happen

No, but what I think is irrelevant. Blizzard probably has a strict policy when it comes to referencing memes in game to keep politics and other less savory things out of the game.

For example, hypothetically, lets say this guy wrote the goblin saying things like, “let’s go Brandon!” and he got fired for that. Would you still feel it was unjustified?

Well according to their logic, as long as the goblin said “Let’s go Brendon” it’s not a reference to the original.

It’s Bobby’s world after all.

 logic is back!

Saying that doesn’t have a double meaning like the goblin yacht does, so they’re not comparable. Goblin yachts are real in wow lore. The “joke” is a double meaning, hence why I say it is vague and non direct.

Do you have a better example you can use that’s more applicable to the situation?

Super common Blizzard L

Blizzard: “Okay, write the goblins here as greedy”
Writer: “Got it!”
Blizzard reviews it: " Uhh, i said write the goblins as greedy, not talk about us."
Writer: "I did what you asked, i’m just writing what i’ve know. :upside_down_face: "
Blizzard: "Ya fired. :expressionless: "

I find it unlikely that Bobby Kotick had anything directly to do with it. I doubt he gets involved in the hiring/firing process of anyone at that level in the foodchain when there are at least four layers of managers and game directors between them.

I think Ybarra is the more likely suspect. We know he plays the game, as the initiator of this complaint apparently did, while Bobby probably does not. We also know that some of the dialogue that was written targeted the content of the February conference call, for which Ybarra was the face of the call, with references to returning to the office and the announced cuts to employee profit sharing.
