Embers of Neltharion Upgrade System Overview

They are trying everything they can think of to preserve the loot structure. This is like layer 7 of makeup trying to mask the loot structure mole. The loot structure is the cause of like 80% of the negative feedback, but there is some internal ideology that prevents them from adjusting it in any way.

Who cares about people in raid finder upgrading their gear?

I upgraded raid finder gear in season 4. It gave me another chance to get drops I needed so I ran heroic, normal and then raid finder every week until I had the pieces I needed.

And that’s probably it, they don’t want raiders to feel pressured to run every level of content once per week.

You’ll be able to have 2,000 Flightstones at a time during the season, but there’s no limit on how many you can earn (and spend!) in a week

This seems odd, and I’m curious what the reasoning behind the 2000 cap is? If you spend (hypothetically) 2 hours getting 2k, spend them, spend another hour getting 1k and spend them, or spend 3 hours getting 3k and spend them, what is the difference?

So basically -

Flightstones: your pseudo-valor grind

Crests: your timegate

You make it sound so simple. My problem is the 30+ runs it takes to get the gear you want. How many times over will my crest cap be before I get the items I want to upgrade?

blizz… is this your idea of a casual filter? make currencies, then make’em confusing and complicated? why? why is this what you guys do??

…starting to think you don’t actually want people to play the current content the way you keep designing this stuff…

Why did you bump crafted gear 3 item levels to match +20 vaults in season 2?

So the crafting system in S2 and the upgrade system would be more aligned from the start. Since crafting begins at 421 baseline, rather than force players to recraft their S1 items with a new spark, they just roll everyone up.

It’s in here somewhere.

Oh wait did you mean the max crafted S2 levels? I think I misread

I don’t know what all these people who are calling the new system overly complicated are talking about. It’s two different currencies to keep track of, Valor and Primal Focus. They just have different names now to fit the aesthetic of the expansion.

I just wish Blizz was able to put the Crests into the currency tab also instead of having yet another thing clog up my bag space.

The post mentions nothing about PvP and how that will work with it, great.

The expansion is going to be remembered for this needless hampering of players’ time with systems deliberately designed to do so, and poor class balance and reworks with the talent trees that were clearly rushed.

I’m guessing it’s so you don’t have to grind too hard in the pre-season week to cap out your flightstones if you want to be ready to upgrade pieces you get the next week.

PvP is excluded from it.

I seriously don’t get the “complexity” of this when it’s pretty simple to understand once you get your hands on it coming in Embers of Neltharion may 9th when season 2 starts.

When they first announced this players responded OVERWHELMINGLY that it was too complex, with far too many systems and unnecessary steps, currencies, and redundancy.

Blizzard has listened and done absolutely nothing regarding this and is going forward with it as is without any changes.

So I think there are two takeaways here

1 - Blizzard is NOT listening. They did not take any of the feedback given to them, and will be really very surprised (again) when it goes over poorly.

2 - Blizzard really is having a staffing crisis and was not actually able to do any changes in time to avoid delaying the release of 10.1.

For the expansion that gets rid of unnecessary systems they sure do love adding unnecessary systems.

Seriously? How is any of this so hard to understand? I don’t get this mentality.

Once you people got your hands on it then I’ll bet y’all will understand it.

“…you don’t need to worry about whether you’re at or near the cap. And if you’re curious how close you are, you can look in the Statistics tab of the Achievements window (default hotkey “y”) to see how many fragments you’ve earned towards the cap.”

Will the statistics tab show me the season cap of Crest Fragments? or will it just show the total amount of fragments my character has earned so far in the season? On PTR I see it saying “5” for Whelpling’s Shadowflame Crest Fragments earned. It seems weird that I should have to do a math problem to figure out if I’ve hit the cap yet (150 fragments * number of weeks since 5/2 or 5/9).

Also the statistics window seems like a strange place to track this. I’m guessing it’s because you can’t use currencies b/c the fragments are used in professions. Maybe it’d make more sense if there was an Niffen NPC you could talk to that could tell you your progress on crests so far.
