I am running into a strange issue with the new cross-game promotion between War Within and Vessel of Hatred. Here is the text from the promotion on the Battle.net app, verbatim:
“Must purchase Vessel of Hatred and The War Within and link the same Battle.net account for both games at any time prior to January 7, 2025. Purchases outside of Battle.net require at least one login to Diablo IV after the purchase to link the account. Must claim offer via the Battle.net desktop app prior to July 7, 2025…”
I have a two part question:
I did not purchase Vessel of Hatred; it was instead gifted to me. I do not technically meet the requirements of the promotion (and now never can?), but I believe I meet the intended spirit of the promotion. Am I still eligible for the promotion?
Since VoH was gifted to me, it was not purchased on my account but it is linked to my account. It was gifted directly to my Battle.net (for PC use), so do I need to login to Diablo IV, or is it successfully linked? I ask because I actually do not own Diablo IV (only the expansion), and the promotion indicates that Battle.net users do not need to log in to Diablo IV.
These questions are pertinent to my Battle.net account and time-sensitive due to the promotion ending in three weeks. Can anyone with customer service help me with this?
From the page I’ve found on this, you’d need to get the base game to be able to be part of the promo. And from what I’ve read, they’re not handing out the stuff until Jan. 13th of next year.
First, you must ensure that your Battle.net account is linked to any Xbox, PlayStation, or Steam accounts that you wish to purchase these expansions for. Please make sure to login to Vessel of Hatred before the end of the promotion.
Once the rewards have been distributed (after January 13, 2025, rewards expire July 7, 2025), log in to the My Gifts page on Battle.net to claim your rewards). You can also use the Gifts button in the Battle.net Desktop App.
That page has the exact same text as the promotion on Battle.net. It does not answer either of my questions. I need someone from customer support to clarify the details of the promotion.
As far as I can see it doesn’t require you to specifically purchase either the War Within or Vessel of Hatred expansions so it shouldn’t matter how you received them, you just have them on that Battle.net account.
That said, to have an expansion you usually need the base edition. You wouldn’t be able to log into Diablo IV without the base edition so even if you have Vessel of Hatred you’ll need to also have Diablo IV.
Can I safely assume that having the game gifted to you is close enough to count for this promotion? It specifically says “bought” or “purchase” multiple times, which is just unusually specific if the intended meaning is “own”. Are owners of these expansions going to be denied the promotion in January if they were gifted one or the other?
Regarding using Vessel of Hatred, I am aware that I would have to own the base game to play it. However, nothing in the promotion references buying or owning the base game, and supposedly, you don’t need to log in to the game for the promotion if you “bought” it via Battle.net. Can I get confirmation that someone who owns both expansions, where both expansions were directly purchased on Battle.net, but does not own Diablo IV, is going to denied the promotion in January?
And to clarify, I know that I won’t be able to redeem the promotional materials in Diablo IV, but the promotion rewards the items in Battle.net, so this technically shouldn’t matter if I only want the rewards in WoW?
I’m sorry to be nitpicking, but at this point I cannot purchase the expansion for myself (since I already own it), and I’d like to avoid spending another $30 if I already qualify for the promotion. I appreciate any assistance you can provide in this matter.
It should, yes. We don’t tend to count “who purchased” as a qualifying factor. The promotions look at if you have the license on your account or not.
Aye, that part is primarily if you have it on another platform (console, Steam, etc…). If you have the license on your Battle.net account you shouldn’t need to log into Diablo.
I’m fairly certain this is how it will work, but I’ve made an inquiry and will update the thread when I hear back.
Thank you. I appreciate the quick response to a strange series of questions, and your own willingness to seek clarification.
I also realized that for clarity’s sake, I should mention that /both/ expansions were gifted to me, and by the same friend (who would then qualify under the advertised method… lol). Also there may be some cases where the expansions were themselves redeemed (and not ever purchased at all) using the Mountain Dew promotion.
The way the promotions work, is that they check your Battlenet account for a CLAIMED game key that has been added permanently to your Battlenet account.
If you have the game on another platform, like Steam, you need to Link that Steam account to your Battlenet account then log in to the game which synchs the data.
When the promotion is processed it checks your Battlenet account for those keys. It is very much a yes or no.
If your friend did not add the key to their account, despite purchasing the game, then they would not be eligible. They have to actually have a copy of the game on their Battlenet account.
That should be fine. The base game is free and as long as the code has been claimed to the Battlenet account it should count.
Mine were both gifts so I can tell you how I make out. Heh. I have no worries though. I should get the promotion because I have a TWW key claimed and a VoH key claimed to my Bnet.
Replying here since I had a similar question… If I buy the combo of the two (base game and VoH), described as the “Diablo IV Expansion Bundle” on the shop, can I assume that counts? Meaning, I don’t have to have purchased VoH separately?
I missed out on the Amalgam of Rage mount, which I want… So that makes this a good excuse to get Diablo 4 (which I only play Diablo very lightly).
Don’t count on being able to get that. There is a whole long debate thread on that in the Bnet forums. It seems there is some inconsistency on the rewards, and if they are still given, or should be.
That SHOULD work. As long as the VoH license is on the account it should count for the promotion, even if you get it as a bundle of two license keys.
I missed that. Thank you. I thought it was just the stuff from the Launch event where we had to camp the goblin boss. I honestly only skimmed it. If it says so then sure. All good.
Same. I saw the list and went “Ugh I did that already so have that stuff”. Why did they give us old stuffs??? I did not even get to the end because I was frustrated I wasted time. heh. On the good side I got to use those things for the past X years so there is that.
Received word back and yes, regardless of if you purchase the license or someone else gifts it to you, if you have both on your Battle.net account you’ll qualify for the promotional rewards once they come out.
Note: The person gifting the expansion(s) does not qualify for the rewards with that purchase. They would also have to have those licenses on their account to qualify.
