Me too. While I love being able to play as a Thalassian elf, the void theme kind’a breaks the immersion. I’m glad I have more customizations to pretend at the very least.
But we still can’t be paladins, and I think that’s a shame. At the end of the day, we’re like store brand. Close enough to pass, but still not quite right.
Here’s yet another playable High Elf thread. High Elves are currently playable, are now called Blood Elves, and are on the horde. That’s the game, but you want what YOU want, and will continue to spam the forums until YOU get it, just saying.
This is a common misconception. She died before Blood Elf was a thing. She never took the Fel with Kael’thas. She died a High Elf and was never a blood elf.
Are people getting worked up about this topic again?
Personally I think all races should be neutral. I know, right? Races having a free will, instead of blindly choosing all the same path and the same leader? The sky would be falling!
As for high elves, just create sub races for several races.
The whole allied race concept is idiotic in my opinion. Except for Vulpera, all of them should have been customisation options.
We have high elves. They are on the Horde, with a small faction that went to outer space deciding later to join the alliance. The few oddballs in Northrend and such are also outcasts. The horde has stuff like this too, there’s even a human that walks around Orgrimmar, some Alliance Deserters that are also on the Horde in Northrend—does not mean we should start saying “When are we going to have Horde humans”
Quel’Thalas is the High Elf capital. Blood Elves are literally, physiologically, historically, ethnically the high elves. “Blood Elf” is a political designation.
This causes some cognitive dissonance because people expect Humans+Dwarves+High Elves on a team just like every other fantasy. But it’s not the case in WoW.
Not really, the High Elf Fantasy is easily accessible with Void Elves using normal skintones, hair and disabling tentacles. I wouldn’t say no to a race with it’s own racials, heritage, etc but it’d probably step on the Blood elves toes a little too much. Everything you could want for the High Elf fantasy is right there.
Well yeah, I mean warring factions have been part of the game fundamentally from the start. If that “sort of environment wow devs foster to” is a bad thing then WoW might not be the place for you guy. You choose a faction before you even log in, with one exception, pandaren.
Bliz has added some cross-faction play in recent times with raids and m+ and such, but factions in WoW e x i s t, and it just so happens High Elves are largely on the Horde.
I’m happy with Void Elves if I can get what I would have gotten from High Elves out of them (Pallys mostly)
Honestly I think one of Blizzards biggest mistakes was not doing Light Forged Elves and Void Draenei. Would have checked the high elf box, and would have give Draenei fans the option for warlocks and such that they’ve been asking for. Light Forged Draenei are nothing but a glorified cosmetic.
Maybe one of the many, many, many reasons for wow’s downfall is it being stagnant. For 18 years and counting. Strict race division might not be something, that is very appealing. Especially in 2023. I still remember the outcry about elves getting darker skin tones or just recently the thread about those evil lgbtq hair colors they’ll add in the next patch.
Not to mention that race division doesn’t even make sense it many cases. Granted, a lot of things make no sense at all in the lore.
This game has a crazy amount of restrictions.
They could easilly add an NPC in Telogrus Rift that lets you toggle you’re raciall effects to be either the current voidy ones or more arcane looking effects to suit a high elf and 100% problem solved.
I’m just an elf fan. I like the elves in elder scrolls. I’m also a fan of how they handle the “elves” in GW2 with the tree people filling that role. Usually elves are at least of the oldest races, but the Sylvari started coming to life long after humans. I like most variations of elves.
Clutching at straws there. Are you saying a Kul’tiran isn’t a human? because they don’t ahve ‘human’ as their race?
Could easilly be a high elf allied and fighting under the banner of the void elves under Alleria’s command. still part of the Void elves, but clearly a high elf.
