It actually led me to thinking about what they could do with the void in relation to people’s whining about how velves need paladins (see below for what that looks like); You could have a close in melee class that rapidly mutates to deal with a given situation by both utilizing offensive (IE injecting poisons with barbs, blasts of shadow magic, scything talons) and defensive (Gaining a carapace, building up resistances to damage types as they come in while dropping off others, the ability to fly/leap distances) that would stand in stark contrast to the Paladin in both style and lore.
Oh and what it would look like if a velf became a paladin:
They’re the only horde race that really had the option there. And frankly, since it was only really brought up basically after Jaina screwed it up, it’s not like it was ever under any serious consideration.
Shen’dralar also shielded themselves like the Nightborne but instead of a Nightwell used a demon to power their home and to strengthen their magic. (despite this being fel based they for some reason had no physical changes or eye color changes. It’s a big plot hole for them.)
This went less well than it could have as it wasn’t enough power to really do the job so over time they rationed things, there was a bit of a rebellion, some of them ended up dead and by vanilla only a small group still lived holed up in the Library wing of Eldre’thalas.
In Cata things got bad for them and they mostly left Eldre’thalas for Darnassus to join the night elves proper… Some further problems occurred that entirely is the fault of maiev, but the Shen’dralar joined with the night elves and the Alliance.
Food for thought, “Alliance High Elves” will probably never be in an important part of the story again instead since Blizzard is exceedingly deciding to throw factions out the window in-game and in the story. I for one won’t miss them
I think we’re suppose to think it would have happened if not for Jaina, the Blood Elves never really had much reason to be Horde in the first place if not for Garithos “We Sin’dorei were driven to the Horde by the bigotry and distrust of the Alliance” so it makes sense they were the ones that almost flipped sides (again).
And the Alliance coming along to screw with their defenses and what not while pretending to be negotiating with them, and then the horde actually helping them out with their problems and the closest horde neighbor being led by one of their big damn heroes
oh and then there is that faction of racist elves known as the silver covenant that exist to make the rest of their people’s lives as miserable as possible.
Again: the Alliance was out of position to assist Quelthalas so even if garithos hadn’t been a thing (and he was) the forsaken were still more valuable as allies.
Much like how the Night elves inexplicably joined the alliance. Because yeah: Tyrande had no more love for the alliance then she did for the horde and was determined to maintain the independance of the night elves even when the legion was barreling up Mount Hyjal.
yet warlocks readily use fel and void, and they dont have green glowing eyes and dont blow up if someone heals them with light magic. shadow priests readily use void, even hear voices, never go crazy and can heal themselves with light based heals, and no tentacles emerge from their skulls. lol devs make those decisions.
they are fictional characters. do you think the devs are deliberately writing them as evil racists? if so, why would they do that to the faction that is nearly extinct? it makes no sense unless they actually want the game to fail. why make a game with 2 factions, then make one of the factions so unpopular no one wants to play them?
