No, but they sure knew what it could do from 4 seasons of arena in original TBC, and players sure as heck knew long before vanilla classic came out, as evidenced by every pvp player i can think of bumrushing it, from hydra to venruki.
That item was popularized at the time in swifty’s incredible warrior tricks video. So its not some unknown factor.
Despite all this they let us play all of vanilla and two full seasons of tbcc arena with it in.
You’re comparing an adjustment that’s meant to level the playing field away from degenerate gameplay to…making respeccing between your most oft used specs free forever.
Adjustments to items in arena is pretty on-brand since…they literally have always attempted to keep arena 100% neutral between competitors in every way possible and for example that’s why they made it so you can’t use engineering stuff in there either.
Dual spec not being in the game is not an oversight. It isn’t something they missed, or that players started to notice and Blizzard realized “oh dang, we shoulda really put that in this time around”.
It’s purposefully, intentionally, not in the game. For actual design reasons.
Adjustments to items for arena balance is not in any way comparable to a hugely impactful feature that changes the impact of your spec choice.
See my post addendum. No, I don’t think they are equivalent at all. It’s just ongoing evidence for blizzard’s pattern of a.) Taking player feedback from the forums and b.) Acting on it.
I give dual spec probably a 0 < X <= 30% chance of being added.
I have never once made the claim that Blizzard is closed to feedback and will never take ideas from said feedback.
I am making a claim based off of very visible actions taken and things said in the past, that Blizzard will not add dual spec.
They may have considered it, yeah, I don’t doubt that, but it’s clear (to me) where that conversation likely went: “no”.
I’m sure we’ll all find out. When we make it WOTLK and there still hasn’t been a peep on it, I will repost in this tagging all the relevant individuals, don’t worry. You’re invited to the party.
If dual spec is added you’re literally killing my joy for the game.
You’ve never practiced putting the shoe on the other foot, that’s clear, but if this is the only reason you won’t take your L, I gotta say I’m feeling a bit let down if this is the climax.
You refuse to explain how dual spec being in the game would actually impact you.
So yeah if you are saying that just knowing it’s there and that others are using it is such a bad experience for you? Yeah you are just a negative nelly.
My personal feeling is that you’ll get over it pretty quickly, and you won’t even notice that it’s in the game for the most part. The only silent indication will be slightly more activity in LFG and more people in battlegrounds or arenas. Meanwhile it’ll be amazing for everyone that wants it, and probably amazing for most that are oblivious to the issue once they realize it’s in.
E.g. it’ll be good for me two-fold ways: my personal ability to respec and do more content, and seeing more activity on the pvp ladder.
Uh, not sure but I was about to quote something like “stop acting like this is an evolving, live-service product instead of a recreation”. Cmon bruh, we’re literally talking about evolving changes they just made to the game literally 1 week ago. Along with every other change, many massive (hvh BGs etc etc). This game is 100% evolving.
It’s not impossible. The expansion in which dual spec was implemented saw no marked increase in queue improvement. DPS queues were still extremely long.
In retail where anyone can be any spec they want, even with gear that is usable in all 3 specs, queues are still long for non-tanks (45+ mins).
To me, improving the queue from 45-42 minutes (and I’m being generous) doesn’t justify going outside of the TBC design protocol.
Okay so you are acknowledging dual spec improved queue time for dps.
And really the only time queue times for dps were on par was when the loot satchels dgave rare pets and mounts, which the DPS then whined about endlessly.
there is literally zero factual evidence for this statement.
You might have anecdotal evidence. My anecdotal evidence, from the server Barthilas, was that I found it very very easy to find tanks in WOTLK for all types of dungeon content, which I credit in part to dual spec.
Are you saying your experience differs from all these people? I suppose that could be true, but it’s more likely you either had a privileged experience or are remembering pretty optimistically.
This is at best an entirely subjective experience with no data at all to back it up. My subjective experience is that it did make it easier to get groups, especially for my dps. I also started to heal with my druid, something I never did in BC.
A 45 minute wait time would be a significant improvement over the wait time in BC. I’ve watched groups spam lfg for hours and not find a tank or healer at all. Perhaps you’re on a mega realm that doesn’t have that problem but on the medium pop servers it is. I’ll often feel sorry for those groups spamming for a healer and even offering gold for one and I’ll join the group. I don’t take their gold but I can’t solve the healer shortage all by myself.
