Dreamhaven

See, this always amused me, Let’s say they do create a few decent games. What makes you think they won’t do the same thing as before and merge/sell to a larger entity/publisher?

It’s a business. No one is going to make games at this level for free. People really need to stop romanticizing the games industry. It is an industry just like any other.

I can’t wait to play it on my Smart Glasses™ with articulated kung fu action.

Do you remember eyetoy games? Those ps games that came with a camera?

Its the orginal starcraft makers wow makers and lott others made new company

Ok? And?

Richard Garriot… the man, the myth, the legend… proved that even the greatest… can produce a flop.

He is a legend

Never owned one, but I know what they are. Very scuffed looking back on them though…

Not quite.

Dreamhaven is a publisher and there are two development studios under it. There’s Moonshot Games and Secret Door, with Moonshot being focused on big AAA titles, and Secret Door being involved in smaller, more indie projects.

Actually he sold to a company called Davidson & Company. That company was then purchased by Sierra. Sierra was purchased by Vivendi. Vivendi then purchased Activision before falling on hard times. Kotick then arranged the spin off of Activision / Blizzaed in 2007.

The true point is that Blizzard has never been a standalone company. Activision has been in charge since 2007. Before that they had other corporate demands.

Yall remember Hellgate: London?

it would be saving graces for everyone.

Idk anymore. Take a look at classic. Clearly, if you can look past the QQ, people love the old game much more.

But then again, it is an MMORPG. Retail is not an MMO any longer. It is a lobby queue, it is basically Destiny from a top down perspective.

I think he will or retire. Or isn’t Metzen making a new rpg game. I saw the other day a link to his kickstarter page.

Also, Dreamhaven (not saying they are them but the same setup) is like Activision in that they will be the publishing company but will have an umbrella of developer companies under them. So not sure where Kaplan would fall under.

This is so true. I am willing to bet if Vanilla WoW launched brand new today exactly how it was, WoW would be shut down within 1-2 years. Wildstar was made by some original WoW devs and look what happened when they tried to be like Vanilla WoW. No one wanted it and it was the fastest mmo to switch from sub based to f2p.

All the complaints today like “Alt Catchup” “Grinding” “More end game easier content for solo players” etc. would be quadrupled because Vanilla - Wrath (the hay day expansions) had 0 alt catchup, a LOT more grinding, only end game was raid or pvp.

So you are absolutely right about the nostalgia part and why people keep saying they want things like that. Yeah Vanilla - Wrath will always hold a special part with me but it is mostly because of the people I played with. Sooo many fun times and fond memories but when I look at game play like let’s say even during Legion when I would level an alt, I rushed through BC and Wrath content as fast as I could because it was extremely boring to level in.

Metzen is making a tabletop RPG. He is not making a video game.

The saving grace for TES games is that they release with the creation kits, giving enthusiastic fans the ability to fix the games themselves. I can’t imagine playing Skyrim or Fallout without an “Unofficial Patch” mod.

An argument could be made for the morality of expecting fans to fix your game for you, but honestly the mods and creative content people come up with is what gives those games their longevity for me, personally.

I happily traded those trophies (disabled for using mods) on console for the patch. Playing the game without patch ain’t worth it.

You just proved their point.

I wish the best for the former Blizz execs in their new gaming company.
