Should have been released about a week in after everyone else got their glyphs at the very latest.

What’s weird is that you think that landing on arbitrarily assigned pixels has something to do with exploration. I mean, aside from getting credit for passing over those exact pixels.

Yeah, dragon riding is awful. I hate actively playing the game. Being rewarded for it by being able to travel faster as a result? Madness!
Just think, they might keep this flight system in future expansions and expand upon and improve it!

So, you’re complaining you can’t leave your character unattended, hovering and essencially NOT play the game? Why don’t you log out or land on top of a building/cliff?
You can literally mine and herb while mounted but you want to be able to hover and avoid any threat whatsoever as well?
Dragonriding is a new feature and devs might replace old flying with it. If they do so, turning the switch on all mounts will be easy.
This sort of topic shows why basic flying was good but at the same time was a total problem. It’s essencially not gaming. You avoid everything and don’t play the game. There’s no risk or mistakes to be made. Nothing to pay attention to. You can even press NumLock and afk while your character flies towards your destination.
DR is great, really.

Funny you should say that, because Blizzard tried to remove it in favor of us sitting on flight paths and really not playing the game lol
Lets not pretend like getting from A to B needs to be some type of immersive and interactive experience, sometimes it was handy to go afk in the air while you answer the phone/door/grab a cup of tea or whatever. Don’t get me wrong, i like DR when i want to get somewhere super fast, but regular flying still has a place for me (gathering, pet battles or w/e).
And just to correct you, they’re not removing regular flight, it’s coming back as a toggle.

My main problem with dragon riding is… and hear me out. .
It’s too fast. Everything is just a blur and quest markers can’t even load in.
My other main problem with it is that the main function of efficiently flying and gaining altitude is to seesaw up and down.
This makes me nauseous and disoriented 
I would propose adding genuine thermals and updrafts along ridge lines. And at high altitude allowing us to actually fly like a normal sailplane.
I really miss normal flying mounts.

This. I don’t know why people get so hurt over others being able to fly more slowly. That doesn’t mean dragonriding has gone anywhere, it just means people who want to fly and not dragonride can do so.
If I could pick one I’d have regular flying. I really miss the chill pace.

I think dragon riding is sick. If you are compitent at it you can go super fast. Customizable mounts is a great idea, even if underwhelimg. It added an element of skill to traversing the game, which is good.

I see people doing this, but you don’t have to. You can maintain your speed enough to recharge vigor with a relatively level decline. You just have to tip yourself just down enough that you don’t lose the buff.
Genuine thermals and such would be amazing though. Hundred percent support that.

You can fly at a slower speed you don’t have to speed up.
You can even control it by your angle of descent

Our dragons actually have a good many customization options. Unlocking them can be a bit of a pain though. 
But there’s plenty of options for expressing ourselves. There are a few popular looks though.
If it’s any consolation to you, they are tweaking a bunch of old mounts to be DR capable. When will they release this? No idea, but they have confirmed that it is in the works, and they have a pretty lengthy list of mounts they are planning to rework.

I really enjoy dragonriding, and hope it makes its way to a druid form someday.

Unfortunately that wasn’t their complaint xD
They can’t fly up or once they land on a node, they can’t fly up again lol.
(I guess they didn’t read the 4 buttons on the bar, one being skyward ascend)
I can’t wait until it’s live in the old world and they expand the old mounts to DR.

It’s not like anyone’s asking for Dr to go away though. If it’s so superior as the fans claim, there was no reason not to have both options from day 1. If people want to take the inferior option, let them, just like the anti-flyers always have the option to just use ground mounts.

IMO dracthyr flying should work like DR. Be the ‘flightform’ of dragonflight.
From a business stand point, it was a very good reason. Dragonriding was one of the big selling points of DF. But old flying should have went live with 10.1.

Here is a fact that solves the debate, when you die…you are given standard flight to get back to your corpse…not dragonriding. Why do you suppose the developers chose to disable dragonriding for corpse retrieval?

Because they know it sucks and is only good for a gimmick that they had to have to market this expansion, since they included literally nothing else.

It’s not really about speed for me (although I wouldn’t mind a bit more speed on standard flight). It’s about using my large collection of mounts gathered over 14 years. Its about being able to hover if I want to stop in flight and go to get my cup of tea. It’s about being able to fly from Point A to Point B without the need to manage a resource to do it. Its about choice. Ultimately, its really about choice.
I can pretty well guarantee that if standard flight was introduced with the speed of dragonriding, a large proportion of players would use it in preference.
Some people love dragonriding. That’s fine, let them use it if they like it. Me, I want the choice of being able to use my mounts with my style of flight preference.
That’s it.
