Important thing to remember is that there are players who love and play both and honestly both games have things in them that absolutely beat out each other to a pulp.
WoW has nailed dungeons, raiding and PvP to a tee while having a dynamic open world. It’s led to an incredible high when you accomplish amazing like being that one player who pushes that win into the Wintergrasp fortress.
FFXIV has deep social interaction, a community, keeping content relevant, story and visuals. I’ve never had a game that has made me cry like a babe. Especially Shadowbringers.
The main issue with wow raiding for me is that the game designs raids around addons that tell you exactly what is going to happen.
In ffxiv raids, the environment or the boss itself will give you a queue to pay attention to (so no addons required).
Wow raiding takes a 30-40 minute raid and extends it to 3-4 hours due to trash mobs and just traveling/re-traveling when wiping.
Ffxiv has smaller raid comp sizes and it punishes your damage for dieing and it stacks a ever increasing debuff when you mess up a mechanic.
To me, they are comparable in difficulty (esp the newer raid, compare sepulcher mythic to dragon song ultimate and how long it took to clear each)
At the end of the day, ffxiv really does respect your time at the raiding scene and that’s probably why I raid in ffxiv, but not in wow any time recently as it’s much easier to get into and faster to clear in ffxiv.
That’s just my opinion, but I will still definitely rotate between the games as I love them both for different reasons.
I’m not a fan of FF14 I don’t get the appeal. The dungeons are definitely challenging as well as memorizing a 40+ rotation pattern I guess. Yet I just didn’t enjoy it at all after tagging along with some friends up to Shadowbringers and hitting level 80 from the old ARR. It took ages, there was waaaaaaaaay too much dialog that was boring and cheesy, and I had to go through every single patch the game ever made in order… ugh.
Come to WoW and we have fast catch up mechanics, no forced patch content, and probably easier overall to level anything quickly even if I can’t play it all on one character.
lmao…dude…Im not gonna sit here responding to your pointless point the whole day.
the ART in this game is fantastic every expansion. that YOU dont like ONE flipping thing in it is meaningless. No one is going to like everything.
Now…ifyou have a VALID point that shows us that ALL of WoWs art sucks continually, prove it
if not, leave me the hades alone
I’d love for Dragonflight to be half as good as FF14 is when it comes to casual content. But WoW will never be FF14, and that’s okay. They’re two completely different games at the end of the day and I play them for separate reasons, generally.
WoW is an amazing combat game for me. I really enjoy my character’s look and pressing the buttons to hit stuff. I also enjoy the questing experience quite a bit.
That’s where WoW ends for me. It’s a good solo-player game when new content drops and I’m excited for the dragonflight quest experience, or until I hit that point where the only real interesting gameplay left is sitting AFK until rares spawn and hoping today my lottery numbers are drawn.
One thing that DF has me excited for are the professions. If professions can feel like a solid solo end-game experience, I’ll be happy. Otherwise I’ll just do what I do now and unsub between quest content patches.
FFXIV Experience: Wow… what a friendly community! Still so many players even in the starter zones. So many tutorials to teach me what to do. My adventure is just beginning, and the story seems to make sense. Graphics are good! Man… I just might stick around. Oh wow, even player housing neighborhoods, epic!
WoW Experience: Sweet Exiles Reach huh! What a cool place, now onto- huh? Why do I suddenly feel like I’m in 2005? This city looks like poop. Huh? Who’s this talking head at the bottom? What war? Why am I their champion? I don’t know any of these people, why am I on the council? Where am I going? Screw this I’m gonna do a dungeon… booted? Huh? I didn’t even do anything, I just took 3 steps forward. Screw this game!
To be fair, they literally had the perfect models as npcs and even the perfect heritage armor that the npcs wear and they chose to take a nightelf, slightly modify the silhouette and not change the facial structure .
I still pass by suramar on my NB mage and get jelly at my facial features and the fugly heritage skirt when all the npcs show off their legs with their fancy mana armor.
WoW is also very distinct as a style.
FF14 kinda looks like UE3. The community shaders and mods are cool, but FF14 doesn’t really have a unique identity or style. It’s more like “every fantasy.”
I’m looking forward to the updates to graphics in 7.0 for FFXIV. Some of the textures in that game are so bad. But you have to remember it was made with ps3 in mind as well, now discontinued hopefully the texture packs do the game good in the future.
I’ve always been a major fan of the monsters of final fantasy. And moogles
