Dragonflight Preview: An Eye on Professions

Must have been decent

While I sound skeptical in my post, I’m actually quite thrilled about “badges” as the sort of “missing link” that bridges the gap between completely RNG Mythic ilvl Vault items and the more deterministic, more spammable, but lower ilvl Valor gear.

Raiders will probably enjoy this quite a lot as well, as you can get the “Mythic Badges” from the Mythic Raid as well, meaning that if you don’t want to do M+, you can still get your badges from doing the raid.

They are trying to encourage crafters to work together here. That’s one of the stated design goals. With account wide mats you would almost certainly never have to interact with others since you can just grind out the mats and send them between your own characters.

Also the people who have an army of alts would grind the mats out and flood the market very quickly with crafted gear which they specifically said they want to avoid happening, hence the changes to getting your skill up.

I like a lot of what I am seeing here but I am concerned with the Tiers of Quality.
Five is just too many. We only really need two, Normal and High Quality. More than that is just needless extra detritus.
People will only ever want the top quality so that should be what people aim for. Make it more difficult to get there but don’t clutter our menus, inventory and auction house listings with useless extra tiers.

I hate having to grind out profession ranks to increase profession gear ilvl.

It’s the #1 reason I stop caring about crafting gear once I make one item at the level cap and then just go get gear the regular way.

It’s too expensive and too much material gathering.

Make it easier and faster to level up gear with crafting. At least at the same rate as just farming items in World quests, Dungeons, Raids, etc…

It’s not, and honestly, at this point all you salty vets who bring nothing but negativity, why not just uninstall and leave?

Like seriously, why even both staying here? What’s the point?

Very annoying would crafter progression be on server with bot fixed 750% prices on materials. I think this is really the thing people are complaining about when they post salt in the commodity market threads. Many auction bots lose their profitability with so many medium volume markets going high volume. There’s still a dirty play for high volume markets, but that may be less reliable with so many buyers looking at the same search results.

One of the paths of AH botting right now is to continually list a high volume and low price materials for vendor price, and immediately buy out people who price match. This is the every-man type of botting that you can get going from a level 1 char with only a few gold.

The large scale buy out every single item and relist for 750% strategy is much more challenging in high volume markets. Full market abuse hurts a lot of people for long period of time. Bottom scumming hurts new traders by getting them scammed, but you can get around it by paying attention. Commodity market is the most severe thing that needs solving, and it is what we are getting fixed.

I can FINALLY be a master crafter known by name.

My concern is, will this update apply to Dragonflight Crafting only, or is the whole system with all past expansions included in this? If this is for current content only, then this will be like any other update in the past. This needs to be game wide, not DF only.

One thing I like about New World’s crafting engine is that there’s an RNG chance for you to make a high-quality version of an item, with possible bonus stats and passives. Kinda like “Titanforging” for crafted items.

Like you can queue 10 items to be made, and all 10 of them will have varying stats on them, with a chance for a really high-end result.

Is that in this new system?

Dude I’m fired up for it, I really want to make a crafting team if friends and advertise in chat like the old days.

Still digesting the article, but one thing stands out: Please come up with a better name than “Titanicium”.

I believe that was the point of the “Inspiration” crafting stat.

It’s starting in DF only for now as they mentioned a few months ago.

I’m getting some Diablo Immortal vibes looking at those quality factors.

Looks like professions are being complicated for the sake of stringing us out for longer, since they can control the amount of high quality optional ingredients that will get in which min/maxers will dictate as the standard.

“Pay 25$ to increase your chance to drop a tier 5 crafting reagent from this mythic +!”
“800% value on tier 5 crafting reagent! only $6.99”

How long till they introduce Diablo:Immortal mechanics to the game.

Professions deserve an update so I’m excited to see some changes. Crafting orders (especially guild specific ones) sound great.

I am concerned about the quality system though. Why not just make it two options, regular and high quality, like FFXIV? Nobody is going to buy grade 2-5 quality items, and they’ll muddy the auction house. Look at the market for Shadowlands legendaries: everyone either buys the lowest level or the highest because it makes the most sense to upgrade it one time.

We should have the option to increase the quality on items, but not materials and definitely not with so many grades.

They also talked about how you can Increase the item lvl again on the same gear at a later time using the difference in mats. Doing so also allows you to change the stats if you want .
