On release it 100% makes sense that dracthyr can only be evokers. Deathwing made them for this exact purpose and they were then put in stasis by malygos a long long time ago. They have never seen any of the races that we can be before.
10.1 or 10.2 would be a perfect time to add more classes to dracthyr as it would make more sense then as they would have time to learn these things from us storywise.
No other race however should be able to be an evoker, its not something you can learn to do. Deathwing made them the eay they are

Absolutely, but still… an expansion is so much more than the new shiny race/class. I understand the draw of new races/classes but they’re just one thing among many that an expansion brings. It just doesn’t seem fair to judge the whole caboodle by how well the race/class fits one’s whims.
I am a little worried that very customizable classes that are very limited in race will be more common going forward.
Demon Hunter is elves only
Evoker is Dracthyr only
Both have many more customization options in character creation than core classes and Death Knight.
Within the lore they are super soldiers who have a pre-existing, programmed power affix to themselves. They aren’t going to know how to be a Rogue or a Shaman right off to bat. Would be like asking why Captain America can’t cook like Gordon Ramsay.
They (Blizzard) have said they will eventually open up all classes to the races, which is including Evoker and Dracthyr.

I totally agree - the first new class that is a caster and we have to level a new toon of a specific race - no thanks
I’m on board with the race/class lock. Now if only blizzard could be convinced to delete the visage form.

DF is a pretty simple expansion from what they’ve shown. If you’re not into the evokers you get flight simulator and professions. Not super compelling for a lot of people.
But playing a Drac’thyr doesn’t really change that? You’d be doing the same non-compelling things, but shaped like a dragon humanoid. It’s not like say class halls where there’s boatloads of content attached, it’s just a race-class.
I dunno. I see that it’s a dealbreaker for some but I can’t quite wrap my head around it.
Ion already hinted at them being warriors in the future or other classes. It’s a non issue.

Lol… Lets conveniently ignore raids and dungeons. Which are on top of the things you just listed. Add in PvP too with gear now being the same for everyone. Also the new talent trees.
Not to mention things we haven’t been shown yet.

I was talking about new/improved things, which DF doesn’t bring a ton of, since it seems to be focused on resetting some base things.
So how many is your bar?
1: Dragonriding
2: profession gear and progression system
3: Revamped class trees
4: work orders
5: A new class and race
6: some time traveling events datamined
6:some new world quests and or activities datamined
7+:anything else that we don’t know of because they haven’t released all of it. Or anything I missed.

Already addressed 1 and (2+4 are together)
3 - not really gameplay.
5 - the issue in question
6 - we always get WQs and events
7 - already addressed that I was going off what they’ve announced.
What? We literally have not stopped talking about it.

Ion never said that. What he said was they would think about the possibility.

Have you learned nothing? They will release Drac/Evok as a locked race, then open it up in patches, with alternate colors, as “new content” and all the fools will resub in 10.1…
Evoker being locked to a single race is extremely dumb (hi Demon Hunter), but it’s actually less dumb than locking an entire race, the Dracthyr, to a single class.
It’s like Blizzard learned all of the wrong lessons about class exclusion and why people were screaming for more options to open up across the races, or that the new race of an expansion somehow needed even more piled atop it in order for people to play the shiny new arrivals (hint, they wouldn’t). What’s worse is this actually hurts the ‘sacred and awe-inspiring lore’ of the Dracthyr by suggesting they and their creators are COMPLETE MORONS.
“A-HA! I know just what to do, I’ll have an invincible army ready to combat any foe and do any task!”
Watches an evoker go face-down to a boss cleave while a Gnome sits by with a shield tanking easily.
“By Alexstraza’s… What… IS that strange technology on that short one’s arm there?! A slab of metal? Meant to intercept blows?! Why didn’t I think of that?!”
Also, the fact that they’re trying to add ‘Visage Form’ speaks to their lack of confidence about the race they’re developing for two reasons:
- They just don’t want to do the art work to make Dracthyr work in all armor types
- They want people to have the ‘security blanket’ of two extremely popular models.
They’re demonstrating an unwillingness to commit to the aesthetics of the new race as well as shoving them into a single class. This is an entire race of dragon-people, dragon-people, that have absolutely zero idea what a wooden shield is. If that is not pitiable to you, then I have no idea how better to explain it.
It always entertains me that Dracthyr are the ones to trigger the “REEEEEEEE CLASS RESTRICTIONS” people.
This isn’t anything new.
We’ve had this since the beginning of WoW, along with every new race addition and while I’m more pro “let everyone be everything” (purely because I’ve been spoiled by GW2 and FFXIV) I understand the lore reasons behind it- something that people have suddenly forgotten.
They’ve already stated Dracthyr will be other classes in the future, albeit just not with this expansion. Frustrating? Yes, but patience is all that is required of you at this point- this is coming from someone who wants to be a Dracthyr Warrior.
Not everything in a game has to be done with “mechanics” in mind, but that’s just me.

The magic is the same source. That’s why makes also use time magic (alter time, time warp, slow…), they just aren’t as in tune with all 5 types.
… Seriously? Thought you were done
Also already answered that and not going to bother repeating myself
