absolutely agree.
I do really enjoy dragon riding, but lets not kid ourselves…this was born of Ions control issues and flight hate. He didnt even bother to consider those with motor skill issues and motion sickness, such as my wife, who wont be able to do the dragon riding thing at all.
Another hero class is probably going to be a problem as well. Because it will be better than the rest because, of course it will, it’s an expansion feature. Rest of the game be damned, we need bullet points to put on the box.
And I’m sure dragon riding will be fun. At least longer than Torghast was.
Will do like I did Shadowfail. Buy Dragonfail after it has been out for 3, or 4 months, level a couple of toons I’ve had since 05 to 70, run some heroic dungeons, and do some lfr, and then go back to wrath classic lol. Dragon riding is just another gimmick to toss on the other pile of gimmicks they have come up with since Legion.
My biggest concern is that Ion is going to use dragon riding to take a 2nd crack at removing flight as we go forward, he’ll say that “we all prefer it and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive” so from now on, dragon riding is the only flight you’ll be able to grind your way into earning back… briefly, before we take it away again and again.
Irony there is DF proves they CAN design the game with flight in mind…so IF Ion pulls Pathfinder again we’ll all know beyond argument that it IS his ego and control issues that its whatis actually going on.
He CAN design the game for flight…the question is WILL he do it…or will he continue to push the flight hate instead.
I would rather not spend my game time on trying to fly. This is an awful expensive game just to waste most of your game time developing a travel system
once you get used to it its really not as huge a deal as some are making of it.
IF you can get used to it, that is…some wont be able to.
yeah I am afraid I will be that some - because I am never good at this type of stuff in the game
I get that. I don’t want mandatory content something like pet battles were people can take it or leave it. Achievements would be a start for hitting certain points, races would be another, maybe something to unlock tricks (abilities that don’t impact the riding but give you something visually fancy.) Just things like that.
In a way I’m reminded of cool borders 2 were I did nothing in that game but the halfpipe trying to outdo previous scores. Something like this:
Or maybe some instanced platforming like:
I spend an awful lot of time in major cities dancing and /moo ing at people while waiting for ques. This would give me something new to do.
the wife nearly got sick watching me do it.
the easy fix to this is let us choose…DRing or normal flight so those who have problems can use normal flight, but then cant go back and forth for the advantages of DRing
I mean normally you wouldn’t be able to fly at all for the first part of the expansion. Even if you absolutely hate dragon riding it’s still a net positive if you look at it from that perspective.
they have been given us ways to get around fast - whistle - portals via covenants etc. This is replacing those in an expansion with large areas. It you don’t use it, people would have to do what people were doing in legion - hearthing back to cities and then taking flight paths instead of travel back to a quest area to turn in
I remember when people said Shadowlands was going to rock. Literally the worst expansion ever.
If any of you were here during Cata do you remember this quest?
Dragon Riding is a more fluid version of this. You won’t stay in the air without active effort to which you might say “cool” but what about months from now? Or a year from now? I personally don’t want to do that stupid jousting quest for a year straight so I’m looking forward to regular flying.
Hopefully whistle makes a return
Could in BC, and Cata, and Wrath, and MoP
Why? Not really though.
Ground mounts haven’t changed in forever either. They nerfed water walking for some reason and added mount equipment. Who remembers mount equipment?
I think the time would have been better spent adding in/reworking mount families. Giving each of them more flavor. Dragongriding just feels like a gimmick that will grow old pretty fast.
I mean if you are honest, what % of your time played is spent in the open world vs. in an instance where this mostly won’t apply? They even had to add an instance to force dragonriding to be relevant.
I think the only real “positive” takeaway from dragon riding is the mount customization they are adding. Hopefully that is a precursor for what is to come with all new mounts, which I think would be a very good thing (a new type of reward that can be added to all types of content).
So yeah, time will tell. Making flying more bothersome is not something I personally was asking for.
DR isn’t inherently bad. I do think they should just enable regular flying from day 1. This way you can DR if you want/enjoy it, or regular fly if you don’t. This way it doesn’t feel like DR is proactively detracting from how you want to play the game.
Thanks for the preview editorial. As a solo player, I can’t wait to spend a bunch of time in the open world doing and learning things at my own pace.
There is good news though!
Because DragonRiding exists that means we, as players, can do stupid stuff like fly up really high dismount and die on the top of a mountain Which means? We get ghost flying on launch
And it’s normal flying ghost flying, not Dragon Riding ghost flying, thank the good based Metzen for that. I would have to jump off the roof of my house if I had to suffer through Dragon Riding ghost flying all xpac
Yeah that’s not how a discussion works. You have an opinion and don’t want disagreement so you label with ad hominems is pretty rediculious. It’s not your cup of tea, but others might like it.
Your opinion isn’t a fact my god…be an adult.
