Got one day of access to the forums left, figured I’d just say this for people that had their hopes slightly up, but aren’t total drones so are capable of disappointment. I got a beta a few days ago, and dragon riding is lame. Anyone hyping it is either just a typical corporate drone that hypes anything their favorite brand does, or is an actively paid shill.
It is literally just flying but worse. Yes, it is faster, but maintaining it is just annoying. I don’t really want to think about moving from place to play, I just want to do it. This is like putting a stamina bar on our characters and forcing us to RP walk when it runs out.
I don’t have an issue with it being an expansion feature. I’m not saying to not have it. I’m just saying it’s not what shills hype it to be. I went in with a pretty neutral mind, I figured at most it’d just be pretty much the same, but it really is just worse. The extra speed is not worth the negatives. Yes, you can progress through the tree or whatever, but that still doesn’t make up for the convenience loss.
All and all, it just makes travel from one point to another annoying. It’s only fun for the races, because it’s basically like a racing minigame. I don’t want to play a minigame when I’m just trying to go somewhere. I’m thankful that regular flying will be coming eventually.

I wanna be able to afk in the air if I have to. I wanna be able to look around at my own pace and not have to worry about momentum.

I will also say that I REALLY want them to untie the Dracthyr’s racial from this system as well.
I get so sick of watching my fellow Dracthyr fly off at any time they wish, fly just like a normal dragon, and even hover in place. But then it comes time for me to and I’m still on 1.5mins of cd and can’t. I understand I wouldn’t be able to use it right now, if it were normal flying. But I would honestly rather go without and know I will eventually be able to fly like I’m canonically supposed to be able to.

Anyone with basic observation skills can see exactly what it’s like and how it will feel. If anyone thought it would be revolutionary they are dumb. Fact of the matter is that is a small increase in the quality of flying mechanics, and trust me, the vast majority of people understand that.
This isn’t a profound realization.

I wouldn’t really say it’s an improvement in quality. It doesn’t really accomplish realism because birds can fly up a hill rather than just gliding.
All it really does is hamper convenience and annoy me. Outside of the races anyway. It is fine in the races, like something out of a Spyro game or something.

So far, it sounds a lot like the griffon mechanics in GW2 (anyone in the know, please correct me if I’m wrong). If this is accurate, I think I could get used to dragon riding, but I know I’d ditch it the second I could use my regular old flying mounts again.
Really hope the powers that be think this one through before launch.

I don’t have a problem with dragon riding if we can still fly on our regular mounts. (Yes, I know they won’t be able to go to the “special” places dragon riding is needed for, I just want to use them for the other stuff.)

As someone with the beta who couldnt care less about world playing since i play the AH, do raids pvp and keys, i will say i enjoy dragon riding a lot.

I will decide for myself (which I always do anyway) but your not the only that doesn’t like it, however there’s still far more positive reviews on it than negative…like 10:1 I’m talking.

Fact of the matter is that it requires a type of hand to eye coordination that not everyone has. Trying to force everybody into maneuverability races and rating them on a ladder is going to be a disaster.
Using that term is a good way to get a forum vacation.
They do pay their employees, and employees get a free account.

it’s the only reason i didn’t buy dragonflight and have no plans to til regular flying is released and if i enjoy wrath again enough might just skip it altogether i do not not want any flying similar to gw2 which this is that is the reason i quit playing gw2.

The system is lame, and if it stays around, I hope it’s only in the form of racing game world quests or something as the expansion progresses and into future expansions.
