Why? Monks do it now.
You can in Elden Ring… you can in Skyrim… et cetera.
It’s a fantasy game. You can do just about whatever you want.

It actually is. The Dracthyr have been sealed off from the world, they were created and then left to sleep. They wouldn’t have learned anything beyond what they were created with. Having unique qualities in a race and class is good for the game.
Yeah… the evoker looks cool but I am super disappointed.
I’d like to switch several of my characters over the Dracthyr as I’ve been waiting for a dragon/reptilian race to be added to the game since I first started playing in 2007. They’ve always been my favourite.
Now they add one and it’s locked to one class that can’t even perform all three roles? I mean come on. That’s just lame.
No, nope, and no some more. You youngins have no clue what high fantasy is really about. I am super fine having dragon people be their own thing. I don’t think of it as a new race or new class. Dracthyr are something that has been hidden from the rest of the world for 10 thousand years.
Who would have taught them warrior skills or mage skills. They are fine just the way they are.
Warriors hit things with a stick. Everyone can hit things with a stick.
You do not have to be shown how to do that. lmao
A) TONS of classes don’t require any specialty knowledge to pick up and learn. B) The dragon aspects are actually intrinsically tied to multiple sources of magic (frost/fire/arcane - mages; the Emerald Dream - druids).
Also, someone yesterday made the perfect suggestion: Once you level an Evoker to 70, you can make Dracthyr of different classes. They start at level 10 in Org/Stormwind, like Allied Races. This preserves the story by making people play through the starting experience for Dracthyr at least once. Then other Dracthyr can be said to have ventured out into Azeroth to explore and learn new things.
The elemental magics come from their being they don’t even need to use weapons. They breath fire. If you want dragonborn paladins then go play Neverwinter. I for one am excited for the Dracthyr and it may become my main in wow.
I’m glad you’re excited. You’re clearly not a tank that’s wanted a dragon race since 2007.
My point is that there is no reason to restrict it so heavily. Especially considering they’re supposed to use all 5 flights of magic, currently only use 4, and the 5th is focused on earth/fire magic and could easily be a tank. lol
“This entire race applies to me but excludes others and I’m okay with that” isn’t really a good stance.
The 2-spec thing is literally just Blizzard trying to save money on development, same with DHs. People applauding them for doing less is so silly.
Their race is their class.
Dragons are powerful beings, given more classes wouldnt take away their draconic abilities, they would be a duel class at that point.
Its just a non starter, focus on drakenoids instead of trying to change drakthyr.
Or we could let them be unique and leave them as is. Perhaps in a future expansion the race can expand into other classes, but being unique will be good for the rpg portion of the game.
They were created by one dragon as an experiment and then left to sleep. That dragon didn’t seem to really care about them beyond their creation. It also seems that he didn’t get along with the other dragons.
I think their initial proposed plan for Evoker/Dracthyr is fine.
I’d like to see in a future patch this race be able to be other classes.
Blizzard makes something new and unique, and people immediately wanna water it down and butcher it lol
Adding a tank spec makes sense, adding other classes doesn’t.
This is a perfect time for blizz to flex their game dev muscles and let Dracthyr be the 1st of all the races to have body scalers for full range customization for the player to choose how they look and feel.
Dracthyr also NEED to be able to mog all armors on them. There’s decades of customization options and blizzard are NOT utilizing it. (most customizations for character creation, but the least ever in terms of not being able to show armors in full on the character outside of the visage form. which is really dumb and backwards thinking)
They also need more classes to play as, desperately.
I’d suggest some lore friendly classes:
Warrior (you don’t need a PHD to know that warrior melee fighting is the most basic combat ever invented.)
Druid (more dragon forms to think up to play with. and they are LITERALLY SHAPE SHIFTING DRAGONS)
Mage (Aman’Thul would like to have a word with you about magics)
Shaman (dragons are related to the elements in the lore, so this makes total sense)
Warlock (have Wrathion do something kickass with the black dragonflight in the leveling story for warlocks. aka: the weapon of my enemy is my tool)
Paladin (The most stalwart protectors of the dragon isles, willing to self sacrifice to protect and preserve the dragon nests and their clutches from all harm, and bring swift vengeance to those who would cause harm to the flights)
Imagine if they made void elf just shadow priests?
I’d be perfectly okay with them adding a tank spec to evoker.
I just feel that simply adding a warrior (or any other tank) would be the easier/simpler solution, which makes it the more likely one.
Which is why I’m advocating for it. Ideally, a new spec would be great but it’s a lot more work.
Theres already 6 classes that are more than capable to tank. Paladins, Monks, Warriors, Death Knights, Druids, and Demon Hunters.
Asking for Dracthyr to tank is inane, seeing how their numbers are limited and asking them to sacrifice themselves by taking the brunt of damage in a raid or 5 man is insulting.
I agree with you black dragon flight created them so the one class makes sense
Exactly. 10char
I’m not against them adding tank to evoker.
I’m against people continually being ridiculously entitled and demanding more and more changes no matter what.
Ya’ll know what I’m talking about. Ya’ll know who you are.
Hey, this is the only thing I’m asking for. ;-;
I just want to play a dragon in my preferred role (which is tanking.)
It’s been my dream race since I started playing the game. haha
