It was answered in an interview. They are an intellect class. Spellcaster at its core. There really is no room for debates or what ifs on this one. Ion himself has answered everything and every question or reason in this thread. Took me all of a few mins to read or a bit to watch the various interviews
Demon Hunters are 1 race per side, but those races can be other classes that can heal. Drakthyr cannot not tank full stop. And right now we have no guarantee that they ever can, so maybe one day tanks can main a race they might really want but right now if you have been waiting on a dragon race to main but you need to main a tank then sorry no luck for you.
AND he was talking about the Evoker Class
Not about the Dracthyr Race
Ion said for Dracthyr they are openminded when it comes to new classes, just not at the beginning of the Expansion.
Sure openminded we have heard openminded before, along with “possibly” “later” “when the time is right” so why do tanks have to wait out? I would really love that answer from the developers, not what the lore or race or class fantasy says, I want a straight answer from the people that made those choices on why for the first time in 10 years we get a new race and they chose to lock it out of a role.
Maybe Asmongold/Zack will ask that today …
I’d love a clear statement too.
I would love if it worked like Allied Races, leveling to max on Evoker unlocks additional class quests.
I guess i could live with that but that means not only playing my main to be ready for raid, but then leveling 2 more characters to max and getting one of them raid ready before I could switch, but I doubt we are getting that. And I hope he does ask I even tweeted him about it. I don’t think any answer Ion could give would make me happy but who knows maybe he has something up his sleeve we don’t know about.
Dracthyr race definitely needs more classes. Just two specs of a class for this race feels SOOOOOOOO limited. Many of us do want to see more classes for this race. Developers, please listen to us and add more classes. I would love to play a mage, a druid or a rogue on this race.
Dracthyr
First Dracthyr has no restrictions other than purchasing Dracthyr. Future Dracthyr has to be on a realm where there is already a level 50 character and only one Dracthyr per realm.
Well based on the Holinka interview that idea is out, one per world. unless I have to pick a different world to level in before I could main in my normal one.
Yeah I read that too …
It is such a strange thing to say about the race …
I hope it was just misspoken for Evoker …
Because usually a Hero Class gets restricted.
Or Ion’s been blowing smoke up our asses about opening them up down the line.
Honestly i see it as kind of a red flag that they are hyping this up as a big selling point but essentially trying to tell us a 2 spec class with a druid form is both a complete class and race. It makes me wary of cut corners in other aspects of the game. and I dont want to be wary because i love dragons and the themes of dragonflight.
If they had just framed it as a new class with a dragon transformation that one thing, but giving us a new race and then locking it to a single two spec class is nuts.
I find it really strange that the dracthyr are meant to be the ultimate solder and yet they cant cover any other classes or tank roles despite being protectors. If the dracthyr cant be other classes, then at the very least Evoker needs a tank spec. (but i would prefer more classes and imagine its easier to shuffle some animations around then pull a new tank spec out of your hat and balance it)
In argument of a tank spec, id say that considering shammy and hunter have melee options and mana using paladins can be tanks, the excuse that they are an int class or a ranged fighter is not that impressive. some classes have different kinds of energy bars for different specs and magic can be used to make protective shielding. If a gnome can tank then dragons can tank. and its not like this Lore we have not even seen yet is already written in stone. they have the power to tweak things. (i was wondering if maybe they would unlock tank spec through questing since they mentioned them using the power of five aspects but never explained where black fit in, but i highly doubt it)
As for more classes, i have already made my argument for those and stand by it. I don’t think something should be called a new playable race if it its locked to one class and I will continue to voice my hopes for more classes sooner rather than later.
Ultimate soldier can mean a lot of things …
It does not always include being good at all things.
It can also mean being specialized in one thing.
The Evoker is specialized in Spellcasting. That is their area of expertise.
But I can Agree that more classes should be a important consideration…
That said the recent Interview with Brian Halinka put some doubts on that thought …
Again that was a choice that was made, the team decided that hey this race cannot tank. They decided all of that, and that’s why we get puzzled by the choice.
Feels like something that’d work very well on hunters to mimic the drawing of the bow string.
This is where communication would be great.
“This is a planned feature for 10.1.5” or some such would do wonders.
I’m honestly tired of waiting for things that should have been a feature by now or from the start.
I really hope it will be implemented on other classes in the future.
Mages, Hunter, Shamans all seem like perfect classes for charged abilities.
Probably more classes.
Nah if they are limiting it to one Dracthyr per sever it’ll be 11.0 at absolute best I figure.
“we kinda feel like we want to move towards a world where the race of a character is not a limiter for what they can or what they can become in the world of Warcraft”
So prove it
Right we want to relax race/class restrictions! Introduces most restricted race in the game’s history
Yeah I just read that crap. Why are we limiting stuff?
Even if it was just a limit on Evokers if they were separate, that still sucks.
I didn’t like the limit on death knights nor demon hunters, and they did away with it, at least on death knights…why add it back?
No kidding.
Yup
Short answer?
