Dracthyr didn’t transform into elves, they just have Elves bones for body1 because Blizzard is lazy.
The same way you see Wrathion has elves body1, but it doesn’t make Wrathion’s model an actual elf.

I think they look great, and love some of the customizations.
My main is a dracthyr and I agree. Wish we could choose a visage race and stay in that form at all times.
I play a drakthyr, but have never touched a pandaren. No thanks.
It’s honestly baffling to me that the Dracthyr ended up anything like they are. The core design feels like something completely out of touch with player base, and the lack of transmog and another gender/body-type really feels like cut corners. There’s an impressive amount of customization there, don’t get me wrong; I imagine getting all the different optional patterns and colors is probably a technical marvel.
But the end result just isn’t something players were ever going to be excited about.
Hell, from Dragonflight’s initial reveal, it was clear that players weren’t keen on the design. But as always, it felt like feedback was willfully ignored. And when players constantly asked questions, we were met with radio silence. Even now, it feels like the entire race is being glossed over. It’s like they saw the reception, but decided “well, we’re not changing course”, and that was that.
I have a background in marketing; it would have been such an excellent move to have come out and said “hey guys, the Dracthyr aren’t quite where we want them to be at, but we don’t want to hold the expansion up or risk rushing things, so we’re going to launch the Dracthyr with this barbershop-armor, and full transmogging will come later in the expansion when it feels fully finished”.
Transmogging isn’t just “some side thing”. It’s a HUGE reason play the game. The very first Blizzcon ever, people LOST THEIR MINDS over them showing off that they were overhauling the Tier 2 sets (originally, they looked pretty generic). And obviously, the Mage Tower is hugely important. Hell, Blizzard even sells transmogs and offered a helm as a pre-order bonus.
Like I said, if they offered a full-blown dragon (scaled down to player-size), this wouldn’t even be an issue. But if you’re going to make them humanoid, and clearly supposed to wear armor, then why can’t they wear armor?
Excuse me I just updated my dracthyr to look classy af and I’m happy with it. You should try customizing more or maybe you just have no taste.
Phone isn’t letting me switch characters.
After looking at this guy’s avatar… I see where the OP is coming from now. Very goofy.
I actually like them
I do think there animations are cool. I think the way you have to play them is super interesting and it’s very different than anything we’ve ever had.
I think the customization that went into it when i was making mine was super overwhelming but so awesome. If you don’t like the way yours looks then i can only assume you didn’t put enough time into actually making one.
It’s not a matter of making your Dracthyr look cool… but rather making it less goofy looking.
Made a Dracthyr and played through the starting zone. Evokers would be kind of bad without being an ugly lizard. The ugly lizards would be kind of bad without being evokers. Together they are a combination that will likely lead to me just deleting the character because I don’t want to see it on my character screen sooner than leveling it to 70.
I don’t care that much how they look though especially the chosen appearance/human looking form has a really weird non-WoW art style look to it, but it does bother me a lot that playing them feels exactly like playing the Darkwing Assassin in the Revendreth World Quest “Darkwing Drills”. Feels like vehicle combat at worst, like a very very inflexible DH at best.
the worst part for me is that you are FORCED to have either a blood elf or human visage… both races i despise…
Nevermind here is my character. Seeethe.
The only point you made that I agree with.
It’s all about how you make them.
just wondering why my Horde Dracthyr decided to pick a female human visage form when my character had literally never seen or had a single encounter with a single human in the entire prologue up to that point. They definitely should have given us at least two options bare minimum for visage forms.
It’s not goofy looking to me tho.
Well you’re also a Pandaren so we for sure have different definitions of goofy.
I have a Dracthyr, only one.
I do not like the look of them in non-visage form. That is the way it appears on the character selection screen. God awful ugly.
in game, I use visage form so it is not so bad.
The Dracthyr form is something that grows on you because it is goofy. It’s like if your kid is ugly… you still love them.
The female visage form is nice because I can make a Targaryen-looking human. Some of the hairstyles are pretty. It would be good if all the races shared more hairstyles.
I suppose you’re right.
