The root cause problem for the rise of AFK BG groups is that the old game has an incentive structure which encourages that behavior from the 2021 min-maxing player base.
This is a new product / design issue in regards to product-market fit. Until Blizzard realizes that TBC Classic cannot be a pure engineering data migration effort and needs tweaking in terms of effort and rewards, we’re doomed to see opportunist behavior and reactionary punishments that are temporary solutions.
One thing to note is that banning alliance (who are the main offenders of AFK BG groups) adversely affects horde players. I really don’t want to wait 30+ minutes to play a BG.
I get that it’s going to make your queue longer, but what else should they do? It would be even worse to not give anything if your team doesn’t win. That would probably lead to even less people queueing up.
I really dont see why they would ban afk premades. Real premades “sac” all the time. Is that bannable? I get afking when people are trying but if you have a 10 man sac’ing or afking, thats pretty dumb.
the problem is that it’s a fine-line between PvP non-participation and ‘throwing a game’. What if all the AFK BG premades just ran to Stables, didn’t cap the flag, and farmed honor. Is that still PvP non-participation?
It is true. Believe me, I wish it wasn’t true because of how many AFKers I get in my Arathi Basin games. No one gets banned for “non-participation.”
There’s no such thing as PvP non-participation. You cannot possibly qualify what “participating” means.
If I queue for Warsong and only fight on the sidelines of the map, I’m not playing to win. By many uninformed (or lying) people’s standards, I’d get banned for not participating. However, because I’m not AFK and I’m not botting or using an auto clicker to avoid going AFK, I WILL NOT GET BANNED.
This is a hard question and I think emphasizes the need for product managers and game designers. If I were to bet money, Blizzard probably did not allocate much budget on TBC Classic or any Classic Games in general but the harsh reality is that the player base evolves over time and old games also need to be tweaked to be effective.
I’ve only done a handful of BG since the patch, especially AV which was my favourite.AV has turned into a god awful pve zerg race.So my thoughts if people cant hack actually playing the 5-10 mins of a Bg then dont queue
That’s literally the win condition of the BG. Always has been.
With the TBC changes, you can actually PvP to win (via reinforcements), so it’s funny to me that NOW you think it’s a PvE zerg race when this is the only time AV could actually be won with PvP.
