Ghostcrawler > Ion for sure. GC never told us he nerfed something into oblivion because he didn’t want us to play it.
Why expansions? I’d be satisfied if they simply developed what they planned to back then:
Hyjal zone, Azshara battleground and 40-man Karazhan. We even know more or less how the latter would look like due to data miners.
Then you truly are lost.
Short answer No
If Blizzard doesnt do TBC they should just add to classic and keep things at lvl 60
That’s not going to happen. Classic didn’t even make it a year before everyone started demanding new content. With a lifespan that short they are not going to develop new content for it.
Modern tools have progressed.
But modern devs? Bioshock Infinite is a half-assed copy of Bioshock 2. Which is a half-assed copy of Bioshock. Which is a half-assed copy of System Shock 2. With each iteration the beautiful complexity of the System Shock series became duller, emergent gameplay gradually disappeared until you ended up with a shoot-em-up game, gunning down hordes of enemies in endless action sequences intersected by scenes from a movie that you can move around in.
At least Bioshock Infinite has a super interesting plot and well-acted, well-written cutscenes. Retail WoW’s writing is cringeworthy. There is no “World” of Warcraft anymore, just lore that is spoonfed to you in increasingly nonsensical dialogues.
The Last of Us is supposedly a masterpiece but it’s just a game and a movie, completely independent from each other, that for some reason got shipped together.
There are super interesting indie games nowadays. I’ll give you that.
That was literally TBC.
John Staats, an original instance designer, has been quoted saying that for Azshara BG “It was a failed attempt that was too similar to Alterac” and Karazhan “We didn’t know how big the raids were going to be so everything was just a guess” in his book The WoW Diary.
Unsure how “deserve” applies, but the RPG crowd would be well served by further expansion of Classic gameplay; new races, zones, etc.
Lateral expansion would be a no-brainer for any company wishing to continue vacuuming up the RPG gamer subscriptions. However those are already a very long term spout, so uncertainty comes into play eventually.
Vertical extension of Vanilla would be more problematic, as it mostly serves the content locust and competition junkies and causes all sorts of issues for the already existing game.
Overall I’d be on board if I felt the developer could create such content.
I mean… a lot of the reasons people wanted Classic had to do with wanting to replay vanilla. Why is that any different for TBC and on?
Sorry? Not sure I understand what you’re getting at.
Yes I suspect the reasons for replaying Vanilla is the same for content locust and other gamer types. But content locust burn through it faster and so get bored sooner. Unsure why that would matter?
NO! WoW does NEED a sequel ( a NEW game), something to bring a new generation to Azeroth, applying ALL that has been learned from the current version and every iteration since.
WoW Classic is fun BUT it’s not an end point OR a start point, it’s a flight of fancy.
I mean a lot of so-called, “locusts” are still playing today. Not only could they prefer vanilla to modern WoW, they might actually want to keep playing it - and go on to TBC.
Blizzard should absolutely not take the risk they make a product that the playerbase of Classic wants, when there’s plenty of people who already want TBC after vanilla.
I mean no offense by the term, it is merely apt. One could as well call my type turtles.
And yeah they’re still playing. We RPG types think loonng term, a year is barely released for us. I’m talking up to a decade.
And yes, content locust will swarm ANY new content available, Classic+ or TBC, that’s who they are.
I agree that fiscally Blizzard would be better off serving the action gamer and content locust crowds, as this is the same logic that enriched them to begin with, and has done the same with numerous other franchises.
Still, I wish one of them would serve us instead. Pantheon is claiming to. But we’re a bigger market share than that.
To the OP and all other proponents of ‘Classic +’, I have a simple question, that I want you to answer honestly.
Do you trust the Blizzard of 2020, the Blizzard of BFA, Warcraft 3 Reforged, and Diablo: Immortal, to make new content for Classic in the Classic style?
Because that’s what you’re asking for. Blizzard of 2004 doesn’t exist, and hasn’t for a while. Vanilla, TBC, and Wrath all are known quantities. You’re asking Blizzard of 2020 to make something new, however, which means you should be looking at how Blizzard of 2020 actually operates.
My advice? Bring out TBC and Wrath, make it the ‘Classic Trilogy’, and give Blizzard time to (hopefully) learn how to be Blizzard again. See how Shadowlands and whatever the next expansion shape up to be, before embarking on something new in the Classic style.
Blizzard can’t even fix the issues classic is suffering from right now. The closest thing this community is ever get to classic+ is blizzard adding new wow tokens and in-game shops mounts.
I think it’s a valid point when you consider that they are almost certainly not going to do BOTH Classic+ and TBC, because they would compete against each other and split the playerbase. One option is high risk. The other is low risk. So they will do the latter but not fhe former.
Screw Classic “Plus”. Blizz should take the money they’ll make off of TBC and what ever is going on in retail and make a new mmo. Probably been said a million times, Starcraft would be cool or Diablo or something entirely new.
Dang, this thread got big quick. I wish these threads showed a tally for original posters, I’m curious how many of these posts are a single no and how many are continually debating this.
I don’t think this is a particular consideration. Servers already do this.
I also don’t think it’s a dichotomy, but we also very much already have Classic+, it’s just called Retail.
It’d be cool, but Blizzard would ruin it. I’d rather they stick with what worked: TBC.
