Are you on their payroll or something? They’ve been innovating and modernizing the game to some degree or another for every expansion they’ve ever had. It’s never been this buggy before. Stop trying to sugarcoat crap on behalf of a multi-billion dollar company. They don’t need your help and you just come off as sanctimonious trying to tell people that they’re anger isn’t valid or justified.
There was actually no documented evidence this was even occurring. What is more likely is that people misplaced their items on random alts that they never log into because so much stuff has been made warbound.
Not at all like bank accounts, those are valuable and banks are obliged by law to honor them. Nobody’s out there writing laws about what happens to your virtual stuff in video games.
Backups aren’t a panacea.
In particular, it sounds like they had backups for the case that the server crashes during/before saving guild banks, or isn’t able to save them for some reason. But that doesn’t protect from a situation where the server has bad data but thinks it’s good, because it’s going to save that data, then tell the backup process to save that data, and the backup process has no way to know it’s being handed garbage.
What would have helped is transaction logs, but those can get really big (you can only have one item in a slot at a time but you can deposit or withdraw items from that slot as often as you like) and there’s probably a limit to how far back they went. Some of these items were in people’s guild banks for months or years and wouldn’t have been picked up on logs that went back, say, 90 days.
Incorrect, between seizes, taxes, IRS, and many other variables you can lose entire access to them - and you sure don’t ‘own’ the bank account itself technically nor their servers.
“Having a subscription or game time allows access to the retail servers up to the last expansion from the current one, Classic Era , and the current Classic expansion.”

Not only that, but they could simply close up shop tomorrow. All your stuff gone. Maybe reimburse your game-time. Because we pay for access. That’s about it.
Enjoy whatever you have right now. It could go poof tomorrow whether accidental or by a glitch. We don’t own anything physical. All we ever had was access and purchased proprietary elements to assist or to “enjoy” with the access are all intellectual property.
Any time I see buzzwords like “bootlicking” thrown around, I just assume you have zero critical thinking skills. It’s absolutely unnecessary to throw around terms like that.
Like what do you expect blizzard to do?
Example. I didn’t lose anything. If they DID give handouts. What would stop me from going “papa blizzard, I lost 5mil in items! I demand compensation!” - And because there are no receipts proving who had what, do they just give me 5mil in gold because I claimed a thing?
It would absolutely be abused. And even worse no one has an actual solution that makes sense.
items go poof and so do the logs.
“zomg I demand compensation!”
“how? They can’t see who lost what.”
“omg corporate shill!”
How every single one of these threads always go lol.
Not me. I craft a lot of things (mounts for example) because i’ve all professions from all expansions.
Data is data. No matters about what. Not “pixels”, they lost data
I lost millions of gold. Panthers, Golems, Rockets, all the mounts a player can craft. Mats, all kind of them. Metal, leather, elementals, herbs, clothes.
And I didn’t even get an email saying “we’re sorry.”
pd: Anytime you did living steel with 3 alts across 1 year? every day 1 bar?
If you lost a bow. That can be replaced. If you lost your save. You have to start over. Two completely different things.
Well you can recraft them or use the ah like everyone else.
I understand being upset over the lost mats, but it’s recoverable.
Items are data, but also pixels. You didn’t lose your character so you didn’t lose progress (unless you decided to unequip all of your armor and store it, then it got wiped)
Why were you storing mounts and such like this? Mine would live on the ah if I already learned them.
If the data was lost, how would they know YOU lost your stuff? They said they restored the stuff from the data they recovered.
Your data clearly wasn’t recovered if you didn’t get back a single item. So again, how would they know you lost your stuff?
That’s why they did a blanket post addressing this.
I role-play, do world, quests, and run delves. not really sure how somebody loses progress. I haven’t been a serious raidee since Pandaria. and a long time ago, I had my original account stolen and then permanently banned. I lost everything including some mounts I could never get again. yeah, here I am 14 years later still subbed and still playing. It’s called having perspective. It’s literally just digital crap. I can’t take it with me when I UNSUB and I can’t take it with me when I die. And if I ever unsubscribe it eventually will get deleted because I will have been gone for so long. The real problem here is people with a hoarding disease are taking it way too personally.
omg you don’t understand? i sell mounts & crafted things.
Tickets. We made tickets.
I really don’t know if you guys don’t understand or don’t want to understand. And if you want to see the progress of my main, look for it in the armory: Betasha - US Ragnaros.
Proud of my endgame progress. And proud of my professions.
And so that you don’t tell me any other nonsense: I no longer want anything back. Not the items, not the gold, not anything. The time to respond to tickets properly has passed. And what remained was my disappointment that neither gold nor items are going to erase.
