Does Fresh Lead to Era?

They were merged from the start.

“Era is dead” is kind of played out.

i find it hard to believe blizzard is seriously gonna keep the godawful SoD realms around forever. but we shall see :expressionless: for now that is the plan it seems.

They merged a lot of the Era realms sometime after TBC, and yes “Era is dead” is played out now because there’s enough Era players to support a couple of realms.

Era is the bedrock of all of the classic projects , its population will fluctuate depending on what else blizzard releases but the guarantee that we will always be able to keep our progress on era and be able to pick up with where we left off after taking a break for any reason or trying another version of the game is what keeps many players , myself included , subbed

Wrong. The Era servers were in a merged state from the moment they existed, which was on May 18, 2021, the day the pre-TBC patch dropped.

No further Era merges have occurred since then

They literally weren’t, they ended up doing that when they realized how little interest there actually was in permanent Era.

Are you talking about free transfers? Those aren’t merges.

people were still enjoying nostalgia from TBC/wrath :expressionless: that’s why era server population got as low as it did. now the nostalgia bubble has burst. TBC/wrath are junk, and the people know it.

Ah okay you’re right it did come with TBC.

Either way now they essentially have a couple realms with an okay population because most people chose not to stay on permanent Era.

Yeah it’s bumming me out , I think I’m just going back to classic era as of today until we get some word on anniversary classic characters being able to stay in classic before TBC , also kind of a bummer they removed our ability to server transfer in era for some unknown reason , they suddenly don’t want our money ???

And Era is there for that. There are too many changes on the anniversary realms already. Just because you want to lie to yourself it’s fine. They told you before that it’s going to tbc if you can’t accept there will be nothing to bring them to classic era that’s 100% a you problem.

Dude I don’t know what you’re talking about , my point is they should bring back the clone / transfer service from 2019 classic so anniversary classic characters can stay on classic era servers , they can just remove dual spec and instant mail or whatever it doesn’t matter , this is what they did with SoM , also it will make blizzard a lot of money with the clone fee , I’ll buy for all 9 characters if you’re reading blizz !

But they won’t. They told you from the start that these realms are moving to tbc.

You don’t know that they won’t do that it’s a guess , and original 2019 Classic also progressed to TBC and they offered the option to stay in classic era , these two things can happen at the same time , It’s not hard to understand

But they didn’t tell you that was going to tbc from launch like this one. The writing is on the wall. But you can keep hoping and I guarantee everyone in these forums wins the lotto before these anniversary realms allow copying to era.

Dude I’ve already said fair enough , I’m going back to play on classic era only as of today , if blizzard wants to miss out on making more money with the clone service that’s on them , it’s a dumb decision to not allow people to stay on era if they want , and the honest truth is neither of us know 100% what’s going to happen , it’s a complete gamble which is also annoying considering how long it takes to do anything in this version of the game , all we can do as a community is try to communicate on the forums what we would like to happen

I understand the hope but I’m just being realistic as yes trying to start fresh on era is impossible as the inflation its insane. I just don’t want people to get their hopes up when with the track record blizzard has we know they don’t care because they can re-re-re-release a fresh experience and people will jump on the train to be disappointed.

Look you might be totally right so as I said I’m stepping away from fresh and only playing classic era and if blizzard is reading any of this let the record show that I will buy character clones for anniversary characters so they can stay in classic era , people should be able to play the version of the game they prefer at this point and not be forced into an endless expansion cycle of stuff they’re not interested in

Ideally we’d have permanent realms for every expansion.

I’m interested to see how they handle TBC, if it’s within the same client that seems much more likely since it would remove one of he major over heads of having different client for every version.

Yeah there’s very clear demand for permanent servers for the original trilogy and I think if they only had 2 servers each they have healthy populations , this would also allow them to keep rebooting fresh cycles of the trilogy indefinitely where people would be able to keep their fresh characters in the expansion of their choice , I think a lot of people fail to see that there is money to be made for blizzard in era servers it just seems more intangible because there’s no way to track what game people are subbed for but I myself sub specifically for classic era and I think there would be people who sub specifically for TBC and Wotlk era
