Does Fresh Lead to Era?

Made the same choice because I prefer Vanilla over TBC any day of the week; it just has so many more class options in respect to PVP.

I honestly think there should be permanent bc classic realms and permanent wrath classic realms also. Sometimes I want to raid in wrath. But vanilla era is the only option.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that the anniversary servers will stop in TBC or Wrath, dividing their communities in debate during that time. I think I remember seeing them mention that you could keep your anniversary character in vanilla, or transfer to TBC, but I’m not positive. I could be confusing the HC realm which is where Im playing, and since they claim there will be no TBC HC realm.

But there is absolutely no good reason for these servers to progress into Cataclysm again. The most popular era of wow was TBC-WOTLK. Cataclysm drastically changes how the game is experienced, especially leveling, which it tosses to the side. The 10 extra levels in TBC and WOTLK are actually pretty packed in terms of adventure, exploration, and quests. Theres even some challenge to leveling in those expasions. The 5 levels in Cata are crammed into relatively small zones scattered across the map, killing a lot exploration, but at least the quests are still decent, although everything is SO EASY until raids give you the only challenge in the expansion. Sure you can now explore the world on a flying mount, but that doesnt mean anything when you no longer need anything from 90% of the zones, except archeology oh wow… On a side note, a fresh cata server would’ve been interesting to see, everybody starting at level 1 and having to level through the changed world together (DKs not allowed until 55 of course) but instead a good chunk of players just spam dungeon queues or buy a boost, which just waters down the overall player experience. But anyway…

There also is no good reason to the community as a whole for these servers to add in game purchases such as boosting or the wow token. The cata servers are absolutely wrecked in terms of the economy, forcing casual players to buy tokens or be left in the dust. GDKPs should also remained banned. The economy, at least in fresh HC, is the healthiest Ive ever seen on WoW. Even during the wrath server (i joined about a month before cata and quit shortly after) I couldnt afford almost anything without buying a token or trying to be apart of a GDKP group. The auction house was littered with bots buying out and reselling items due to the rampant abuse of gold purchasing. I would post something below average sell and it would be bought immediately. If i tried to buy something listed below average sell, it was already sold…

This is a chance for Blizzard to retry the disaster that was the progression forward from their first classic timeline. Keep the broken timeline moving into mists for all the pay to wins, and keep this timeline pure for the players who want an experience without all that stuff. It sucks that the fanbase is so divided, but its hard to coexist in a server with people who want the game to play completely differently than you and your friends. Of course, since TBC and WOTLK are the most popular, pay to wins will of course want to infiltrate these servers with more real world gold trading, wow tokens, auctionhouse bots, and GDKPs. Our community needs to keep our voices loud and clear that we DO NOT WANT these.

I’m just enjoying the innocence of this HC server while I can. I’ve even brought my buddy in who’s never played before and is doing HC on a rogue with a controller add-on. Just ride it out while we can.

People play on Era because of the community feel. You know or recognize other players and guilds. You build relationships and rivalries within the community. The community feel is lacking on Mega servers.
If this doesn’t interest you, then of course you wouldn’t understand why it’s desirable.

The good thing about era is that it’s static.

TBCC comes out and era becomes a ghost town.

People return to era later.

Wotlk comes out and era becomes a ghost town again.

People return to era later.

Anniversary won’t change this imo

then you are oblivious to the plight of the casual player who HATES the constant seasonal content that has spread across all games where your progress is always reset. People who cant keep up with the race and play sporadically love servers that stay that way forever like Era does.

I’ve casually played my 3x 60’s in Era since 2019 with a year long break in there and many other short breaks. I can still return to have my progress matter still and continue progressing my character.

Seasonal resets are trash. Make a good game that lasts instead of needing a gimmick like wiping your progress to make your game replayable again.

I think it is legit the reason why people were creating low lvl pvp toons back in the day to like lvl 19 or 29 or whatever and never leveling past that. It was litteraly the original gear capped stat enchanted up the wazoo and never, ever have to regear your toon ever again kind of a mindset that I remember. And you legit never had to regear or reenchant your toon. Uou could just zone in pvp and nuke people with frostboltz and whatever else.

But that was only part of the appeal. It was pretty appealing to some I am sure just camping level 10’s.

Well, anyways, it is the same thing with a classic server that never progresses. Once you are capped out, then you just log in for a nostalgia rush every so often and raid casually with your guild. And to me, I agree that is all part of the appeal. And of cours, if you are like me, you are probably going to still be leveling up alts and other stuff in the meantime anyways. Because I for one value progression and actually leveling up.

It is just so stupid how the only true classic experience we can get right now as a permanent bloody option is vanilla era. And I don’t get it. We all have different expansions that we love and would love to play forever. I say let us. As soon as a permanent wrath era realm is announced I am creating a toon.

One of the changes I would make personally is just not having a dungeon finder. I mean, you never have to travel or do anything in the world anymore. I mean heck If I was in charge of the game back then, we would still be running to dungeons. And you would be running to a battleground vendor in barrens for a warsong gulch que.

And that’s basically retail. Que up, clear dungeon in 10 minutes. Never say a darn thing or strategize or anything. And done. Pretty boring in my honest opinion.

It’s always funny to me running a dungeon in retail and you get stuck on a mob or boss or whatever and it’s like, what do you mean you can’t just zerg them down? Like LOL. Some bosses and mobs have mechanics that you have to use your brain and strategize to kill them. Go figure.

I also liked the dungeons the best in wrath. And the PVP and class designs was pretty good also. Like just let people play on the servers they enjoy the most. Like good lord lol.

YES ! This is absolutely it , era exists for people who want to take a break or try a different game mode and then come back with all their characters and progress waiting for them so they can pick up where they left off , many people can’t just take a year out of their life to intensely play these one year seasonal fresh cycles where you have to race to keep up playing a game that’s not designed for one year cycles or for progress being reset in general , wow is more of a long term journey where you invest in your characters and build them up over time so you can come back them whenever you want , our progress is NOT meant to be reset over and over again , this is why we need era servers and why I would unsub without them

The premise that you’d treat an MMORPG — which hinges on the idea of continual content and expansion releases — the same as a static game release is frankly bizarre to me.

WoW and the wrapped-up RPGs they’ve been compared to here are not even remotely the same in this regard.

WoW is hosted on the company servers and will eventually be only playable on private servers, somewhere way down the line, when Blizzard says “Ok. All done.” The game only exists with a large collection of other simultaneous players on a server. It is not a game that will be available on Steam in 50 years, or that you can pirate a download from somewhere and play it.

It’s all just kinda funny to me.

Yes and one day the sun will swallow up the earth and everything else … if you don’t want to play on classic era don’t do it man no one’s making you , but many people do want to play classic era and that is the only reason they keep paying blizzard the sub fee …

You’re literally just in this thread to make the argument that “I don’t like this thing so you shouldn’t be able to enjoy it”

It has and always will be a silly argument

Unpopular take but I would love anniversary to run through every expansion. Would love to have had a day one character go through all the expansions I missed.

That’s already happening , it’s on cataclysm classic right now , also no one’s saying that shouldn’t happen they’re just saying we should be able to keep our fresh characters in classic era if we want before TBC

They offered that service first time round, hard to imagine they wouldn’t offer it again.

hey ohhh just doing my daily tbc/wrath era server bumping service have a good day everyone

Same brother lol. Wrath era and bc era bump. Can we make them already blizzard.

IMO they aren’t going to make decisions that far out. They will likely look at the metrics 2-6 months before the end of TBC and make a plan at that point.

Personally, I made a thread about what I’d like to see here:

You and me both bruther, my Wrath dk is just rotting on cata classic

i knew it wasnt coming because they left no tbc up so ive got like 6 lvl 70s on cata
