Does anybody else not talk in Wow anymore? Scared of being Offensive?

Uh huh, and when exactly do you think people facing consequences for their speech started?

Ya’ll act like this is a recent thing, when you’re just salty the tides turned against you.

I don’t talk because I use the game to escape. I don’t want to make more connections with people when managing my IRL connections is exhausting enough already. But I do report people when they cross the line, like if it’s a close PVP match and they choose to insult the team instead of saying “gg nice try” or similar. That’s just unnecessary and signals to me that maybe they’d be happier playing something else. So I’ll do my part and help them with accomplishing that

I don’t talk because there is nothing to say in an MMO game.

There was a new player maybe three years ago I ran into stormwind.
Guy wanted to know how he could get bigger bags, lol.
I had TONS of whatever the biggest bag at the time was in my guld banks so I packed him up with a dozen of them or so and gave him maybe 10k gold to get started.
Its nice being able to help decent folk in game.
Not so nice that I end up having to avoid so many others because of the malcontents that are in there, lol

Imma introduce you to my ex wife lmao.
In less than an hour you’ll be finding ways NOT to talk at all even though shes wanting you to
Just too stinking risky

No, I am not afraid of being offensive. Don’t be a jerk, don’t promote others being jerks and the world is already a slightly better place.

If I see someone doing questionably low dps or hps in a key, I know insulting that person isn’t going to fix what’s happening. In fact if you make people feel like they are backed into a corner, they might play worse as their only way to retaliate at the group, if the group doesn’t disband.

I actually have found that I’ve talked to more people hanging around in the old world, as opposed to current raids/mythic+ or in Valdrakken.

I doubt it’s anything to do with you or maybe it has everything to do with you. Since Blizzard started making blocks account wide, I’ve noticed a steady decline in trade chat. Ignore blocks all characters on an account. You either blocked too many accounts or they’ve blocked you. Word travels fast on the internet. Especially when websites or guild communities list players they consider “toxic”.

Funny enough I talk to people all day everyday without being offensive IRL, so no, the reason I dont talk in game isnt because I am scared of being offensive, It is because I am usually doing something else while I also am playing.

Saying things that are offensive is subjective these days. One person might find what you say funny, another might find it upsetting.

You can say “The sky is blue” and people will report you just for the fun of it. It really doesn’t matter these days, there will be players that abuse the process. You’re better off just choosing a neutral name and not making any friends on this game or else you may be subjected to disciplinary action for either disagreeing or upsetting someone’s feelings.

People aren’t afraid of offending tanks. But that’s on the job description. :grinning:

I play on a dead server that’s quiet as a church mouse even during primetime hours even though we’ve been merged with 2 others. No one talks in trade, general, local d, nothing. And that’s fine and all, buuuuut…

When I get into a dungeon via LFG, I always make it a point to type a quick, “Hello!” 99.9% of the time, I get no response from the other 4 players. That has always boggled my mind. Like, sure, we can get down to business mighty quick, but not even a responding greeting out of courtesy? :person_shrugging:

Good point.

I’m not scared to talk in the game. Retail is just dead right now. You might want to try classic. It is very full.

Does no one else just use the ignore feature? I put all rude people on ignore, whether they were rude to me or someone else. I don’t need that stuff in my game time. But I’ve never thought about reporting for little stuff. I just put them on ignore, so I’m less likely to ever see them again, and get on with my life.

With their bot run report system where # of reports are more important than what you actually said…I agree. I got a 3 day ban for “<3 Thanks to all the veterans.” since I have a crew on my server of sad boys who report on sight.

There’s a community of people on here who’s only goal is to get people suspended/banned. That’s how they play WoW. Keep that in mind.

You’re preaching to the choir buddy. I got a silence for just saying “Thank the lord you’re not a dev, your ideas are horrible”.

It may not have been the nicest way to put it, but not worth a 3 day silence.

I havent stopped speaking yet, but ive definitely been mass reported for things such as calling out repeated mistakes in M+, or name shaming people letting ninja caps happen in battlegrounds.
Tell the hunter to quit body pulling pats and she gets her guild to mass report. The report function is used as a weapon by mad people more than anything. GG bliz.

I see a lot of conversation happening in dungeons and raids, as well as Newcomer Chat. It’s not always good things, but it is conversation all the same. I would argue that some people shouldn’t have the ability to use chats.
