Do you think Classic's success upset Blizzard?

Nope, guess you missed the point that people who like new content aren’t just retail players

Blizzard has claimed that the release of classic doubled wow subs. That means that the bulk of classic players could not possibly be current retail players. It’s mathematically impossible.

I never claimed that though? Keep swinging, you may hit that strawman yet!

Sorry, didn’t read further than that… laughing too hard. Beer all over my monitor now.

I assumed that. Since I do read it’s easy to identify those who don’t.

Hey you’re the one who keeps comparing people who like new or at least changing content to retail players.

You clearly don’t understand what he really meant when he said this.
The saying as it was meant is more true than people are willing to admit

Because from all the data they collected. People either play for like 2 months and quit or play 4ever.

So they invest money for the first 2 months then fire everyone. They aren’t gonna make more money no matter what they do after the first 2 months why pay for extra employees when they can just fire them and buy more jets.

Lot of players came back to try classic again and some new ones to due to hype. And now for shadowlands theres more subs than in the passed decade (late wotlk), lots of players returning. Good to see in both cases.

ayup, and that’s exactly what happened. Classic has been severely neglected. Although i hear botting is a major issue on retail as well

i hadn’t bought BFA, last i played was early legion before moving onto pservers… but kultiran daddies (im on proudmoore, take a hint) made me try SL
I made it to 60 and quit, CBA to keep up with 17 different systems although i wanted to
Patiently awaiting tbc

legit i quit originally back in mop cause i didnt like what they did to locks at the time.
heard good things about legion, came back and messed around slightly with legion and quit again in bfa because yeah no i did not like giving up my artifact weapon and having to grind to unlock all the allied races seemed stupid since all the other xpack races where open at start in the past, just seemed like a way to keep subs going.

tried SL didnt quite care for it so stopped honestly around 50ish.

still all the races seem nice design wise to bad the rest of the game sucks.

also i agree kul tiran males are bara af! XD

I personally think covid and stay at home orders helped classic remain popular. I think without it servers would be much more empty than they are. (At least Azuresong, my server, is very populated still)

For a lot of people they were right though.

Classic will prolly die off to a few servers if tbc goes live. Theres few who want a classic forever.

Uh…(carry the one)…

no (as to your title…yes they wanted it to succeed)

Classic launch had TWICE the amount of players that shadowlands did.

Classic also had one of the highest player retentions with the least amount of player drop off since wotlk.

Classic was a resounding success, the whole “classic will die when tbc comes out therefore thats proof the game wasn’t a success” is really pathetic, you people just keep moving the goalposts further and further.

By your own definition, you must consider nearly every game in history to be a failure.

“No one plays super mario bros anymore, it’s a dead game now, that game was a failure”

No, that’s not how this works.

It had twice the amount of players BfA did.
Classic got around 5 millions players when it launched. SL got around 6.5mi both according to mmo pop.

Game literally started to bleed out the beginnign of phase 2
“We took a look at some data for the first two weeks of January and found around 357,000 players still playing WoW Classic on EU and US servers. The breakdown is about 180,000 players on EU servers, and 173,000 players on US servers. These numbers aren’t what they used to be back in August and September of 2019, but they’re still strong nonetheless.”
From gamer journalist 19/jan/20.

If there isnt a fresh server, it will. Private servers also lost pop regularly after AQ, freh servers is what did retain new and old players alike.
Literally 2/3 of classic servers are dead or almost dead atm.

No need to be a naysayer when the obvious is there.

Its all about player retention for games like wow. Thats the metric for success.

Classic as said by others started bleed early once the hype nostalfia was over.

The community is basically just waiting for tbc info and classic has suffered because of it.

It just doesnt have the draw for new players and its not holding enough of the nostalgia people. Heck even some classic forevers abandoned it cause tbc seems to be around the corner.

People had all kinds of fantasies about classic. But, as a suprise to no one, you cant recapture a “new” experience using 15 year old solved content.

As far as I’m concerned if Blizzard made enough money that they release BC and enough people played on my server for me to do the things I wanted to do the game was a success. Why would anyone care about anything else? Classic was a success for me. If others left it may not have been a success for them.

The contempt dripping from that smile.
