Worse yet was putting the Argonians and Dark Elves on the same faction…
No. I love the world, and the quests, and basically everything about it…
… Except for the combat. I would take the combat in WoW ANY DAY over that nonsense. Them basically making an animation bug an intended mechanic (via ‘weaving’) sealed it for me.
It’d be fun if not for that, but turning DPS into DDR was not a good move. Still, casual questing and the like are very entertaining.
GW2 is that also but replace class quests with racial quests. Literally voiced over cutscenes everywhere and a decent story experience.
But it is an incredibly unintuitive game and with very little actual endgame (especially PvE) and they have a real bad habit of locking stuff behind the store…and permanently removing story content after the game is ready to move on.
But it is very fast paced and mixes a lot of physical skill in positioning and aiming attacks rather than the traditional combat you’ll be used to from WoW. Kind of like if WoW PvE was like chaotic BG PvP.
Oh gosh yeah fortunately the factions are essentially ignored after vanilla game, just a few mentions but nothing in your face. I’m an argonian fan and yeah the dunmer can go burn in Red Year.
It’s a lot of fun. The eight stories are definitely all unique, with the Smuggler, Trooper, and Sith Warrior being my favorites.
Everyone seems to love the Imperial agent story, but I wasn’t into it, chapter 2 was incredibly weak IMO.
Not being into Star Wars I would suggest the Smuggler. It’s easily the most light hearted and fun of the stories, with some good humor throughout. I believe one of the writers said Big Trouble in little China was an inspiration for it. You aren’t really dealing with a lot of the force stuff, just being a smuggler in a galactic war (It’s been years since I’ve played so I might be off a little)
Nope. Never heard of ESO.

I played it, it’s good but not my cup of tea.
It sounds like if you like an RPG with questing and a live open world MMO feel, then this game could be a fun little side project.
I can not bring myself to care about the Elderscrolls setting.
I’ve tried, but I can’t do it. It’s just so incredibly dull.
Yes I agree. To me it is a great casual mmo. You kind of just log in and go in a direction and get lost in the game for hours. What is great is that the price of entry is low. I bought the game on discount years ago and I still have hundreds and hundres of hours to explore before I have to buy more content.
I think if dungeons and raids are your thing WoW is the king. I enjoy the combat in ESO but to me its more single playerish. In dungeons it does not seem to work as well, but well enough to have fun casually.
Either way I would give it a 8/10 currently for the non endgame parts which is higher than I thought when I first started playing it.
What’s a little long-term slavery between allies, anyway?
I think you hit it on the head for why I was bored at first. The world seemed bland and uninteresting. Only slowly once I started to listen to the quests did I start to care about the characters and the world.
ESO does not do a great job of luring you into the world. But I did find it has a lot of depth when you start learning about the world.
Thats just personal opinion as to what put me off at first though. I am sure there are people who dislike the world still 100s of hours in.
That and the fact that there are dark elves helped me stick around. I love dark elf lore.
Same reason I can’t play it for any extend period of time, the combat just feels off, it’s floaty, like you’re not actually hitting anything.
I loved the game when it launched, flaws and all. It was my main mmo for a few years. Sadly, the game is not fun for me due to poor servers (lag) and I despise the cp system.
Main reasons why my Argonian Stam Warden, is AD. Nothing like sniping haughty mushroom munching naughty soot bathing ED dunmers in Cyrodill.
Fortunately the servers are getting replaced this year and the cp system is getting upgraded and 3600 will be the new cap
No, because I find it ugly. It’s so drab and washed out looking.
I would in a heartbeat if it had a more diverse combat system.
Thanks for the news. I’m going to check it out for sure.
Tried to play ESO a few times but just couldn’t stay on board.
Spell and equipment upgrade system is great. The quests were good. Overall story seemed ok.
But the combat was atrocious. Only being able to use a fraction of your abilities is really annoying. The visuals are good but it might as well all just be black and white. There is almost no color anywhere.
Molag baal is a good villain. Dangerous and mysterious. Chasing him down was fun.
Sheogorath might be the best character ever though. Id hang out with that guy.
Anyone looking for a fun RPG should give SWTOR a chance. Its free and the classs stories are all excellent. That game really makes you feel like you are in the starwars universe. Dont expect much from endgame though. Just play it like a single player game.
