Classic Era wasn’t even called Classic Era until after TBC released. So your framing was already confusing.
What else would I call it? Classic Classic?
No. Let me put it in black and white. People on the forums thought they wanted changes to vanilla to make it more like retail. They complained day in and day out that vanilla wouldn’t have all of the quality of life add-ins that retail has. Well Classic 2019 dropped and it blew the numbers out of the water even without chronoboons, debuff limited, no dual spec. etc. and without everything the retail guys had wanted.
OK. How does that debunk anything I said?
Blizzard took our money for Classic Era clones by advertising it as a frozen museum piece.
You not wanting to play it without dual spec doesn’t mean no one would want to play it. Vanilla has a very strong and unhinged core playerbase. Lots of players aren’t playing because of Blizzard’s changes too.
The point of the Anniversary servers was not to roll out fresh servers with quality of life changes to test/see what people wanted. That was the point of season of discovery in seeing what maybe people would like for Classic +. Also Blizzard hadn’t ever informed us of dual spec. from the start. They actually announced it and swooped it in 3 days before the fresh servers launched. 3…DAYS… It was never apart of the original plan.
Aye. This is correct.
Sure. But then why did they introduce changes? Again, I admit I was only speculating above, but it makes sense to me. Why do you think Blizzard would introduce changes after saying no changes?
Then why isn’t everyone just playing Era if that’s what everyone wants to do? Why did people play TBC, Wrath, and now Cata if they all want no-changes Era, and it was only me who wanted some QoL changes?
I didn’t say the point was to test. They tested with SOD. and after that test, they saw what QOL changes meant the most to people, so they applied the results of that test to Anniversary.
We wanted a fresh Era server. Not SoD, not SoM, not Cata, fresh as close to possible (ANNIVERSARY) server. Why? because Era is beaten to absolute death. The patches have been gone through, people have Thunderfury’s on their warlocks for sakes, gold capped on every toon, the aq gates are opened, a fresh geared character joins into a bg with Naxx geared warriors with corrupted ashbringer who is popping faps, nades, flash bombs, sappers, with full world buffs and consumes at that… I could go on and on why we needed a fresh unchanged Vanilla server. Which is what many of us thought we were getting.
The anniversary wasn’t supposed to be a test. (Beats night elf head against flag room wall.) It was supposed to be a fresh server for us who loved Era…
Because Era recieved a mass boost in population of players such as yourself that burned out on Wrath, started playing there and having Classic+ QOL fever dreams, and have left Era trashed full of tons of changes from SoD.
Really not trying to insult you. You fundamentally do not understand vanilla’s core playerbase. Fresh vanilla is infinitely better than Naxx phase forever server which’s economy was completely nuked by the swiper Wrath migrants I mentioned earlier.
Then keep asking for it. SOD and Anniversary aren’t it. They will never be fresh Era. So what do you suppose complaining about SOD and Anniversary will do? You think if you complain loud enough Blizzard will remove all QOL changes from SOD and Anniversary? I don’t understand what you hope to accomplish.
If people never spoke up about wanting vanilla all those years ago even back from the “You think you do but you don’t” during the Warlords Blizzcon we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. The reason we are is because we fought for it.
The whole idea of legacy servers seems to be dead. Blizzard just wants to reinvent the wheel and experimental players are willing to buy it. C’est la vie.
That’s why I said keep asking for it. I’m just saying, you don’t need do poop on the other versions of the game because they aren’t what you asked for. Like what you like, let other folks like what they like.
If you think there’s enough of an audience for fresh Era, make a thread making that case. I’m just saying crapping all over Anniversary, which wasn’t made for you, just makes you looks like a disgruntled customer, which IMO, makes it less likely Blizzard will think, “we need to court those guys!”
supposed to keep the vanilla feel, as per devs
I think it does.
then you don’t understand how dual spec radically changes the game
You are correct. I don’t see or understand how it radically changes the game. My view on it is that it barely influences the game at all. I literally do the same exact thing with and without Dual Spec (DS). Pre-DS I go to my trainer, unlearn. relearn, swap my skills all around on my bar. Same exact thing, but DS is faster. That’s all. All DS does is value my game time.
