Did you guys like the new Lord of the Rings show?

The author specifically describes his characters and the peoples that populate his lands.

The creators specifically chose Galadriel because they wanted a “strong female lead”, and then made her more that than Galadriel.

Because he’s not unilaterally slamming a show you’ve decided to hate and is instead pointing out things he likes and things he dislikes and is willing to give the show a chance?

Anyway. Here are some thoughts of mine! Had a really long discussion with a friend of mine last night.

  • Loved the prologue for the most part. It was visually stunning and gave a good set-up for people new to the universe, as well as providing some excellent imagery and events to people more familiar. Do wish we’d seen Ungoliant, though. That would have been fantastic.
  • I wasn’t really sold on the Harfoots leading up to the premiere, but I was surprised by how much they endeared themselves to me early on. We’ll see how big of a role they play. I hope they keep to the shadows, as would be appropriate to their place in the world.
  • Galadriel is perfectly cast. The intensity in her gaze gives me shivers. Every bit as “beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night” as she should be.
  • I feel like I’m really going to like the Arondir and Bronwyn subplot, though they certainly need more development. I appreciate the themes it’s playing with, such as the idea of “evil in the heart of men”, as well as the dichotomy of elven immortality coloring their view of Man so as to see them as the same as those who followed Morgoth vs the people of the Southlands feeling like that was generations ago.
  • I suspect Theo’s dad never actually ran off, and he’s half-elf. :stuck_out_tongue:
  • Elrond was a wonderful surprise. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the casting choice going into the show, but he embodied the Elrond we know and love perfectly. I loved his conversations with Galadriel and adored his interactions with Durin and Disa. I also just really enjoyed seeing his skills at diplomacy on full display.
  • I appreciate that they’re clearly placing many false leads for who and where Sauron is. There are currently arguments for both the Stranger and Halbrand potentially being Sauron, though I personally still lean toward the Stranger being Maiar.
  • As everyone readily admits, the visuals overall for the show are fabulously high quality. My jaw dropped with the reveal of Khazad-Dum. I cannot wait to see more of that place! Eregion was spot on with the architecture - I wish we’d gotten a more close-up look of it like we did Khazad-Dum. Perhaps in future episodes!
  • We didn’t get to see much of him, but Celebrimbor was perhaps the most pleasant surprise of the two episodes for me. I appreciate that they leaned into his friendship and respect toward the Dwarves, and I look forward to seeing the actor do more with this character. And it was so funny seeing him stand outside Khazad-Dum looking like a sad puppy as the door closed in his face. xD
  • I do wish there were more long-haired elf men, though. I thought it was a decent way to set Elrond’s youth apart, but I feel like Celebrimbor should’ve had long hair like Gil-Galad.

Overall, I didn’t get the initial emotional high that I got when watching Fellowship of the Ring for the first time, but… The tales of the Second Age aren’t quite as deeply beloved to me as LotR or the Hobbit, so that’s fine. I look forward to forming emotional connections to the characters in the show - both those pulled from the lore and those original to it. I enjoyed the first episode but really loved the second - which makes sense. Prologue episodes in TV series are always kind of shaky. This one did its job fine.

I cannot wait to see the show as it matures and as the actors settle into their roles more and the characters develop.

Tbh the only reason I got Prime, was to watch the show Bosch. I guess I will watch the Power Of the rings also.

Great show. The spinoff you can watch for free on IMBD, or Freevee it’s called now. Still waiting for a spinoff with J Edgar/ Jamie Hector. Very good actor that deserves his own show.

More that he’s forgotten what happened in the First and Second Ages. Maybe he should read the material again. Or just watch the videos on his own channel where he explained all of this to folks, before forgetting it when that bezos check arrived.

I gave She-Hulk a chance… I regret watching the first episode. It’s hands down the worst Marvel show… it’s really bad.

She Hulk has always been about silly irreverance and breaking the fourth wall, though. She’s always known she was a fictional character.

If Blizzard killed the lore in 2 expansions only for ideology inclusive and woke, why wouldn’t Bezos kill the lore of a work by a conservationist that today they would hate just because of his ideology.

if really wants inclusivity without it ruining the work, House of the Dragon is doing well… For now.

The jokes were cringe, the constant “I’m better than you” is annoying… I like 4th wall breaks and jokes… but make it funny or entertaining in some way. But no, they made her an annoying pompous douche…

These don’t exist. Y’all need to deal with the fact that there are people who don’t rabidly hate the show.

I’m sure that people who have never read Tolkien think it’s great.

I’m sure that people who read Tolkien and didn’t like it might think it’s great.

But for people who have read Tolkien, and have staked their reputation on talking about Tolkien’s merits… to embrace a cheap sell-out is, well, a cheap sell-out.

in a hypocrisy because her way of hate is due to flirting with her, while another chapter makes a ridiculous twerk, here the thing is getting furious and what has really gone down the path of the last phases of the MCU being I don’t know what, to what the real Marvel was.

he goes out of line and offends his roots from other superheroes such as the Hulk since in 2 movies or even 3 the tragedy and odyssey of his suffering from his transformation was seen while the stupid Ruffallo defends that detail because he will stay to his forced schedule woke up to what Disney and Victoria Alonso want to do in their new movies.

Surely, because of what you would be on his agenda, your woke ideology in not defending a conservationist author such as Tolkien, and all this that Amazon and Bezos are doing is killing all his ideology as his originality of a work that died along with him.

I’ve read Tolkien plenty of times. I love Middle Earth. I think the show is great.

Where’s my “bezos check”?

I’m sorry, I found your post confusing, but in the end, are you aware today about how DS9 is the best of trek? I hope you get around to watching it. It’s phenomenal television.

Amen to that. DS9 = Star Trek’s Best

it is that perhaps you are seeing them as a eyes of COMMON PEOPLE, and there are no eyes of a professional geek like Star Trek fans that even for me is far from that knowledge.

In any case, you have to know that it is not the only time that Amazon killed great franchises only with their :poop::poop::poop::poop::poop: series, as in the case of another literary work similar to time travel, and now it was Halo, which was a lack of respect for dealing with take off Master Chief’s helmet.

Oh please, I read my first Tolken book in the 4th grade, I’m 61 now, I own a extremely expensive set and read them yearly. but to assume people can’t just simply be entertained for the sake of entertainment is nonsense. When I go to a play or opera, I know it’s probably not going to be based on books in their entirety, and every director takes their form of artistic license… it’s called entertainment for a reason.

What makes it woke? I didn’t see any mention of gender or irl race when watching it.

That’s what woke usually means, if they actually mention it or make a plot about it. Are you saying it’s woke because of black people merely existing in it? That’s a bit crazy of you.
