Did you guys like the new Lord of the Rings show?

That’s absurd.

Taking the Jackson films as an example, nobody minded that the filmmaker removed some portions for time reasons.

What people objected to is that he removed things “for time reasons” but then added a ton of his own crap to pad for time.

Also changing motivations/interactions of the characters. (Gandalf not wanting to go to Moria in the films, when it was his idea in the original version. Whoever that was pretending to be Denethor in the films, etc.)

In the original story, as soon as Gandalf turns up in Minas Tirith, Denethor turns command over to him.

Oh but we can’t have that. We have to have that silly “hoo hoo he fooled them!” scene out of a Punch & Judy show. Hand that man another chicken, too!

That’s the same company that bought multiple gaming IPs from Square recently. That company is growing insanely fast.

It’s not from any book at all. So you’re good

The new LoTR is certified amazeballs. I can’t even fathom how any LoTR fan wouldn’t like it.

This show has brought me happiness. After all the truama I’ve suffered and the loss of loved ones. It was an escape. I don’t have to justify why I like something. Period.

:joy::joy: my laugh for the day!

I will never understand how people get so excited by a show just by the name, it has nothing to do with the original writer or even the people that made the movies. It might as well be its owns new universe.

The only IP from Square I know they bought was Square Enix Montreal - hopefully, they can keep the Deus Ex series alive because SE surely didn’t care enough.

Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, and multiple others that I can’t remember lol.

Yeah, Tomb Raider and Hitman were the only other noticeable ones.

Definitely need another Deus Ex game - just love the series way too much >.<

It’s pretty good. Game of Thrones has made me realize, however, just how tame other medieval/fantasy shows are.

Sandman was terrific, btw.

People who haven’t watched it on Netflix should definitely check it out. (They released another episode about a week ago, btw.)

Very faithful to the source material. Some changes to adapt the medium, but all in line with the original story and characters.

But then, the creator insisted on being executive producer, so that makes sense. :joy:

I think people will like it if their not a fan of Tolkien and are more a visual effects type person. If they’re a real fan they’ll have already spotting things like Finrod didn’t die in some super epic GoT style battle… He died at the hands of a werewolf… not to mention Galadriel story change… I mean they’ve taken quite a bit of ‘poetic license’

I plan on watching it all, but will never consider it a work of Tolkien.

I feel the exact opposite. I very much enjoy hotd, and am having a very hard time with rings of power (with hope it gets better, but im not holding my breath).

Sandman show is awesome. A dream of 1000 cats was particularly amazeballs

I’m waiting until it all comes out so I can binge it at once. I find those shows to be too complicated to wait a week between each.

What are you going on about? Nothing you said here really describes the scenes you had issue with, outside of the fact you felt it made no sense for there to be non-white people in certain roles because in the distant past the author did not specifically mention them. Seems like an odd hill to die upon imho. Also, are we watching the same series because I’m certain I saw plenty of male characters being competent. Galadriel is the leader of the expedition yes, but it was her male counterpart who stood up to her and ultimately forced her to put down her sword to save the expedition. So what’s your gripe exactly?

Oh lawd dem rangs.

It’s actually really good.

I enjoyed it. I’m not one of the stupid purists pounding their chest like a gorilla and posturing to look cool to the other smooth brained purists. Granted, it’s only 2 episodes, so I’m hooked so far.
