I just watched 2 episodes tonight I can deal with it. It’s all good if you don’t get all picky about things.
And if they did a beautifully-filmed fantasy show and called it “soldier lady and her soldiers” you probably wouldn’t be hearing any complaints.
But when you license a story, and name your program after that story, people will get miffed if you don’t tell that story.
Not sure why it still surprises people.
So here’s the thing.
My Dad read Tolkien back in Ye Olde Days when it was really for the odd balls. He got me into the books very early on.
I haven’t watched it yet, but he has and he likes it. Not everyone shares your opinions and that’s OKAY. You don’t need to play the “NO TRUE SCOTSMAN” to say “I personally didn’t enjoy this. Guess it’s not for me.”
I like the Dino De Laurentis Conan the Barbarian film, too.
But let’s not fool ourselves into thinking it’s a Conan the Barbarian story.
You don’t need to appoint yourself the arbiter of taste and boundaries to say “I don’t like this.”
I haven’t even watched it. I just think the Defense Brigade is being ridiculously cruel to people who find fault with it.
People are criticizing a TV show, folks, stop acting like they’re insulting your mother.
I haven’t watched it, either. I just think it’s silly to say, “If you enjoyed this, you’re not a REAL fan.”
I’m paraphrasing and this isn’t directed solely at you or, for that matter, just about the Lord of the Rings show neither of us has watched yet. It happens with a lot of properties.
but not so much as to destroy the entire work as to hardly resemble the original.
It is really taking advantage of the mysteries that Tolkien left before the Hobbit story or within The Silmarillion leaving almost nothing, and by the way you can see when you force to become inclusive when the author was not, he was only a conservationist.
Hence the way they hate the work a lot and especially true fans who knew there was it in the middle-earth past, it wasn’t.
that’s what you think?
Nobody in this thread (that I’ve seen) is attacking people who liked the show.
There are several people in this thread who are attacking people who are critical of the show.
Okkaaaaaaaayyyyy.
Let him tell it, but its originality, not that they modify it to his TASTE for later nor with the name on it does not mean anything to what its origins were, and instead of improving it they only make it worse to know that it was only a disgusting ideological political campaign .
Sometimes you have to adjust things.
Let’s take Sandman as an example. Having read the original back in the 90’s, I would say that the Diner scene is unfilmable. But by reworking it, they were able to turn it into an episode that preserves the story elements, even though the overall presentation is quite different.
But taking Gandalf’s lines and motivations, and just moving them to another character like Aragorn, changing how both characters work… that’s just unnecessary.
But Ring of Powers isn’t SANDMAN.
They took advantage of the moment knowing how it looks, if it goes well, and the changes go well when they are reciprocated.
One of the errors of the Amazon series is that it is trying to insult what was an author whose philosophy was conservationism through his characters, it really worked, but now he is with his unrequited characters as he is also in the worst moment when another work where inclusivity is the corresponding one, as it was with J.R.R. Martins.
That is why they see the series as hypocrisy and a future failure of Amazon once again when it will have even more hypocrisy after having broadcast success with the series The Boys a series very far about your inclusivity ideologie.
And that’s why it goes from bad to worse.
forgetting their roots when most already know the roots where their books come from, is the worst idea and an insult to the intelligence of the viewers who contracted the stream channel, and ignoring them would not go well for the company.
My man, the episode of Deep Space Nine called “In the Pale Moonlight” is quite possibly the best episode in the entire Star Trek franchise.
Truly.
They sent him an email, he sent one back then they basically stopped talking to him all together.
That’s all I know.
Considering aside from a couple of specific characters, none of it was written by Tolkien. Its a glorified fanfic. To be fair, I would prolly catch an episode if i didnt have to sub to Amazon Prime, but as it is, i can do without.
So you’re upset that there are black people in the show?
Did… did you even watch Sandman? >_>
God forbid art mimics real life a bit with people of color. The only issue I have ever had is continuity issues in art. For instance, if Elrond was originally written as a White flamboyant man who likes other men I would be upset if he was suddenly this grim black straight guy.
