DF was pretty forgettable

I’ll take so-called “boring” dragonflight over BFA/Shadowlands.
I remembered the characters just fine, also I actually liked the overall story of dragonflight, the dialogue in 80% of the quests/cutscenes where cringe inducing, but the overall theme was good.

thank god chris is back and we’re gonna get storylines that respect our intelligence

Wishful thinking. Looking at the spoilers for TWW, it is nothing but the same garbage we’ve been getting for the past 5 years.

This thread is filled with people that are so conditioned to war and fighting and explosion in their faces and not wanting to watch characters to have a dialogue heavy scenes in their cutscenes or cinematics. Dragonflight is the step in the right direction in terms of utilizing the resources it has to tell its story in the game. The war within is not changing any of that because I think we will have dialogue heavy scenes in the war within and no longer just fighting and explosions and killing.

The story was forgettable but so was the questing experience in DF.

People love or hated MoP but they remember the first zone or even WoD with one of the best leveling experiences in WoW.

WotLK questing experience with Arthas making cameos was epic.

TBC going through that portal was also epic into hellfire with some of the most unique music this game has seen.

The problem is that the visuals, the music, story, even game play to an extent is all flat in DF.

The only area where BlizZard took a “risk” was with the crafting overhaul and I can safely say that from my experience felt flat too.

Systemlands has some redeeming moments if they fixed covenant switching earlier in the expansion, and the same with BFA azerite armor shenanigans. Those were solid expansions brought down by rental systems overload.

DF ditched systems but it still was hollow and flat.

BlizZard needs to learn how to make expansions again by not relying on rental systems. That is why DF is considered a filler expansion and we called it when we all tested the alpha/beta of dragonflight.

Purely from a gameplay and engagement perspective, I hadn’t been so invested in actually playing the game in a long, long time before DF. BfA and SL did an excellent job of killing my drive, and yet DF somehow managed to restore it. Yeah, the expansion wasn’t perfect on multiple fronts, but overall, I’ve had a lot of fun.

And yet somehow dragonflight is doing better than say the likes of legion, Battle for Azeroth, and shadowlands and I also might even add Warlord of Draenor to that list. Dragonflight did something right in terms of retaining its player base and gaining subscribers albeit slowly.

WoW’s over all story has always been extremely bad.

I have to be honest, I didn’t care for this expansion. Dragonflight was a cool concept though. There needs to be more single player options at this point in a decaying mmo.

If it was decaying it wouldn’t be gaining players

GDC 2024 charts shows that the game is retaining more players and potentially gaining players.

Also, if World of Warcraft was dying it would’ve been shut down long ago. But it hasn’t happened so quit moaning about how this game is in bad shape.

It’s especially valid because I’m objectively right and you’re trolling/coping

Boy, it sure didn’t take long for people to start being apologists for Shadowlands.

ooo, zoomer buzzwords instead of something of substance. Daring today, aren’t we?

Some of us were around when WoW was at 12-14Mil subs, with high quality of life.
Compare that to what modern gaming has done by today, and yes, we clearly have things to complain about that are intentional. Thanks anyways, Dad.

Deathwing left behind more of an impression than any of the characters we’ve been introduced to in DF, lmao.

And btw, he’s been dead for about 12+ years now lol.

Yet his legacy is still the biggest thing even in DF, you had Abberus and the Dracthyr existing because of him.

It’s like how Shadowlands couldn’t help but bring back old characters like Garrosh, Arthas, and Kael’thas and Vashj and even Kel’Thuzad for a bit, because the characters they had in the expansion just flat-out sucked.

DF might as well have been called “Deathwing’s Legacy” or “Return of Tyr” or something just as dumb lol.

I don’t think many people would disagree with you on the story stuff, but overall I think the gameplay was much improved over the WoD-Shadowlands era.

Even then, there were some high notes. Raszageth, Iridikron, and Fyrakk were all pretty solid. I also really enjoyed the sidequests and how they built up the continent. I enjoyed everything involving the Tuskarr, especially their renown quest in the Waking Shores. Also really liked the dragon with the dwarf visage that told his story. I did that on day 1 and I still remember it fondly.

Agree about pretty much everything else. We had some cool moments, but the overall story was pretty mediocre and the middle-section of the story was exceptionally lackluster.
