Nah you "recruited" a lot of "troops" and you're pretty explicitly told your "recruiter" is trawling corpses off the Broken Shore to rez as new Ebon Blade DKs.

They're our T2 troop, the equivalent for the Paladin Order Hall would have been Silver Hand Knights/Officers.
Well then.

That's f*cked up.

I feel like you're steadily learning more and more about how !@#$ed up the WoW universe is with every passing day. I'm almost concerned.

Almost.

A little bit, but against the Legion? Understandable.

Not to mention it's not like it was the Ebon Blade that killed them in the first place. Not like a certain other faction raising corpses to join it's ranks now...

Yeah, this is... this is honestly preferable dark to what we have now.
Questionable, actually. When you're in a war, and gaining territory, it's not always possible for your enemies to retrieve their bodies. When Forsaken capture a corpse, they put it in a coffin, load it up on a caravan to ship it to death knell for processing. The person is asked 'Do you want to live or not?" if they choose no, they are then promptly killed and buried.

Field raising happen, but they aren't the usual.

Gathering corpses from the Broken Shore however? You're harvesting your allies bodies, likely without asking anyone unless they specify that, and then dragging it back to the Hold for raising. There's no hostility between them and the corpse, they just see a dead body and take it.

That is concerning.
All the more reason why I do not care for anyone's outrage for raising the dead both in fiction and in RL.

Hell as I type this right now I just got done doing a WQ where Kiro ask me to use a totem to raise the dead to simply kill them and take their coins.

that sounds like a job forsaken would do, they are probably paid minimal wage.

it's never actually expanded on if the Caretakers are paid anything at all. Who knows? maybe they are like Voss.
We’d never get to the actual stories if every plotline they had to address how Warlocks and Death Knights fit into it.

it would suck if they aren't paid.

I'm not even sure if Forsaken value money to be honest. They don't drink, they don't eat, they don't even really need to sleep if they don't want to.

Calston however, at the very least, lives a semi-content lifestyle in a mansion outside of Deathknell. Having long since retired it seems, it's unclear what retiring for a Forsaken is either.

And if they say yes they're conscripted into killing their own friends and family and adding to the forsaken even more. At least the new Death Knights were sent after the Legion that would have burnt their souls as fuel for war machines anyway.

The Legion is a universal threat, the Alliance are not.

surely they must have some value of money, for example buying reagents for their experiments or trading with the other horde

Except they...don't? Like right off the bat we're told, and then shown multiple times, that not only is armed service not mandatory, but you can actually retire.

Voss was conscripted because the woman literally shoots purple flaming energy beams out of her face.

You mean the Dark Rangers who explicitly WANT to murder you?

Yes it's poorly shown, but they want to put a knife through your face.

Has that been shown since Cata’s intro though?

It’s a very hard subject to deal with imo because as far as we have seen, Sylvanas does not raise Forsaken unless they are necessary for war. In which case they don’t have a choice. Amalia and Valentine most recently.

The problem is both Legion and MoP had little focus on Forsaken outside of SoO, and BfA is literally ALL about the war so of course we're focusing on war time resurrections.
The (new) Ebon Blade is almost universally given the choice as well. Honestly, Legion did a lot of things right and the Death Knight experience is one of my favorites that they wrote.

You raise the soldiers and leaders alike, tell them the score, and they all want in on revenge against the Legion and protecting Azeroth. They tend to retain passion and personality (if not improved, like Sally Whitemane being cured from her madness) and they act like an extremely professional, "We can do what others cannot" PMC.

Granted, there's no... civilian Death Knights like there are Forsaken. They're picked from practiced soldiers and legendary warriors.

The worst we use available bodies for otherwise is ghouls and other constructs, which we clean up after ourselves by exploding. No damnation, no soul, no sentience.

They're given a second chance to save the planet. It's fine.
