Dear Blizzard. (My apology)

I am sorry for my actions and how I’ve been towards the community these past couple years. I know you guys hit me with a mute and hear me out. I’m a changed person now. I know what I can’t say and what I can say and I’m working on fixing it. When I got received my new silence I had no intentions of ever playing this game, but then my girlfriend got me back in the game. I still love WoW. I’ve been playing this game since I was in my early teens (est 2004). Even though I’m serving a 8 month long silence (which I feel like I deserved) I wish there is a way for me to get my silence lifted. I promise to not be toxic towards my fellow players and I promise not to ever trash talk anyone in /4 again. I realize that my actions I’ve done can really be not only damaging to the community, but damaging towards myself. Since I’ve received my silence I have had a hard time trying to find groups for RBGs and arenas. Trying to communicate without communication is hard and now since I’m playing this game again I finally understand that. Thank you for the punishment. It was well deserved. I know I’m toxic and I have my way of fixing it.

  1. I disabled world chat as I feel like this gets me in trouble a lot.
  2. I’ve put every player who has aggro’d me to be this way on ignore and I have no intentions of taking them off.
  3. I started playing my alliance monk more as I feel like this is an easy break from dealing with toxicity in the community / giving into toxic behavior.

Please lift my silence. I’m changed now. If not, then hey, I tried and I guess I have to live with my consequences and serve out the lengthy sentence of my silence. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
-Destiny

Sorry man if you want to appeal a silence you will need to put in a ticket, nothing will get done over the forums. I wouldnt hold your breath tho since 8 months means you had multiple chance to reform and failed each time and while I can appreciate a willingness to change you will more than likely end up serving your sentence.

I appreciate this, Destiny, I really do.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the proper venue to appeal an action, nor is a silence of this type usually overturned.

This, however, is exactly what we hope will be the outcome. The last thing we ever want to have to do is action or silence a player.

It is most unfortunate this is months long, but silences do double every actioned infraction. You are welcome to appeal this and have it re-reviewed, but as I’ve said, actions of this type are seldom overturned.

All the very best to you.

I’m working on an appeal right now. I hope for some good luck out of this. <3
Thank you for your support. I’m going to forward this message in my appeal.

I will give credit where credit is due. I commend you for this post. I commend you for saying you deserve the punishment. I commend you for trying to change, and actively taking steps to do so. And finally, I commend on willing accept your punishment in the event that the appeal does not go well for you in the end.

In light of this, I do wish you the best. I truly hope it works out for you. Best case scenario is that you have changed, worst case is this is all fake (I do not believe this) and if the silence were overturned the next time it happened there is no way it would be lifted again, AND it would be for a mega long time.

I wish I could share your optimism in your appeal, however 8 months does show a tremendous amount of time to correct the issue. I do wish you the best though. And once again, kudos to you for taking these steps, and openly talking about your direct fault in the issue instead of trying to make excuses. Best of luck in the future.

wow…I hope you have some luck on your appeal.

While I do wish you luck, I wouldn’t hold my breath. You had seven other opportunities to change. This is your eighth silence; it started hitting the range of months after your fifth.

This is absolutely insane, given that the previous infractions never expire. Destiny serves a purpose in the completely optional-to-join LookingForGroup channel. He’s one of the LFG community “villains” that many people love to engage. Many of us play for this back and forth alone. Without him and others like him, the server feels barren. I actually transferred a few characters over to Tichondrius because of what the silence policy have done to Arthas. Blizzard is actively destroying the community, and it’s got to stop. The game isn’t fun anymore without realm rivalries.

Well, the lesson is don’t run your mouth then.

Well, some people had a problem with his banter and Blizzard agreed.

And how is breaking the rules make a server lively? If you want to run your mouth, than make a private chat and have at it all you want off the game. While in Blizz’s house, you play by their rules.

I’m not saying infractions shouldn’t be punished. All I’m saying is that people shouldn’t be facing year-long silences because a snowflake couldn’t handle being trolled.

Ah here we go, derogatory remarks, just shows your concerns have no merit.

So what you’re saying is that the only kind of rivalry that you’re able to have is one that’s inappropriate in a public space?

Destiny didn’t just break the rules once…that would have been a 24 hour silence. They’re up to 8 months which means that Blizzard has made many attempts to help Destiny find a more appropriate way to communicate.

You’re not? Then what exactly was the point?

Oh, you thought it was because a “snowflake” had an issue? Yet here you are complaining about the 8th punishment that the OP had? Perhaps the issue isn’t with the “snowflake”.

If you can’t handle being action for your remarks, maybe you shouldn’t act up.

The whole doubling silences thing is a very effective way to say “don’t do that.” If it was a short silence each time, that wouldn’t be a very effective penalty because then the player would continue with the bad behavior.

It sounds like it’s working as it should be, honestly. And if the person keeps up with the bad behavior, then they have to not communicate, which makes the rest of the community a better place.

What it sounds like you’re arguing is that simply because you agree with what they said, everyone else should brush it off. That’s not your judgement call to make - what they say is governed by the code of conduct.

Yeah, see these are the exact people and situations where I’d troll the life out of someone. It’s not against TOS to get someone’s jimmies rustled. However, in an automated silence situation where the previous infractions don’t expire, it’s easily abused by people doing the reporting. You don’t have to agree with me or what’s being said. The report feature isn’t a downvote. Streamers are even getting caught up in this system through reports. People are being banned from rated play for 30 days due to abuse of this system. It’s trash.

The truth of the matter is that some people just dislike Destiny and are waiting for him to say something that can be reported. This is the main problem. Silences are being issued that are unwarranted, and the response to the appeal is “well, this in and of itself isn’t an infraction, but with each new silence the noose gets tighter regarding what can warrant a silence”

This leads to some people, like Destiny, receiving silences for things that wouldn’t normally warrant one.

…it kind of is, actually.

exactly, we have silences being issued in the community that aren’t breaking this code of conduct. This has even been confirmed by GMs

It’s not, and has been confirmed by Blizzard.

Sounds like you have been on the receiving end of a silence or two.

You don’t get to make that determination. Blizzard does.
